Geat for Heikki and Webbo

Is Kimi on more of a wet setup? It'll be interesting to see.

I think Phil Prew should have kept quiet and let Lewis just drive the lap naturally. But it should be great viewing, he'll have to fend of Nick and take Kimi on track, if Kimi's well fuelled as he looks.

Remember this was only qualifying. It's Silverstone with all the possible weather scenarios. There are numerous places to pass cars that are slower in a straight line and worse under braking. Depending on the weather anything can happen and most likely will happen.

Unlucky for the #1 and the #2 in the WDC but it's better to be unlucky on saturday than in the race. This has to be a step in the right direction for Felipe because of what happened on the grid last year. Obviously it's better to start 9th than 22nd.

This will be a very interesting race.

not the best result for the top two guys in the WDC. FM will be interesting to watch tomorrow, having had setbacks two days running now.

there seemed to have been some real underperformances, however these may have resulted from running wet-set-up cars on a dry track.

I have to say the LH looked a little unnerved; he spent a lot of time pouring over that telemetry. here's hoping that he doesn't do something rash tomorrow.

having been given the shape-up-or-ship-out message, NP seems to be on track.

Great qualy! Very exciting and I loved the final results. Congratulations to Heikki for a deserved first pole.

I think Heikki isn't any heavier than Lewis, look at how Lewis was going a whole 7 tenths quicker than Kimi halfway through his 1st attempt. He just went too cautious on the final run after they warned him he was overdriving - and with several other drivers suddenly finding a lot of pace for their final runs, he was caught out. He'll have to rely on the weather going his way tomorrow, otherwise it's too many cars ahead to worry about.

Awesome qualy by Webber, and Vettel as well. Webber could be light, but for a moment we thought he was going to get pole, he is another guy that deserves a pole already.

Ferrari was nowhere compared to everyone on Q1 and Q2, and looked worryingly nowhere near the McLarens pace in Q3. Kimi still did ok, Massa apparently had problems. I was expecting McLaren to be slight favourites at this track but didn't think they'd be this quick! 0.5 seconds, "a mile"...

Sucks for Kubica : But I guess it just evens out some luck he has had compared to the other front runners.

With the threat of rain tomorrow, watch out for some cars on dry setup, and others on wet setup. Anyone who did better than average today could be a sign that they're betting on it to be dry - the main suspects for me are the McLarens, Webber, Heidfeld (did allright in qualy today for a change!), Glock, Nakajima and Sutil.

Any chance of Red Bull's first win on the cards tomorrow should it tip it down? :rotfl: :p

Pleople here are trying to find something to bash hamilton.
Now it's about the partner, how on earth would someone think that he didn't compliment his partner?
Look a the footage, he tapped heikki on the helmet, gone inside, when heikki arrives it has vettel and piquet(alonso?) in front and lewis is looking at the monitors just like vettel. Why don't people say vettel didn't compliment heikki, he was just behind him...

To overtake Kimi on track he would have to be faster, which he is not. Without incidents it might be 1-2 for Finland. well, anything can happen, but you can hope. :)

I wouldn't mind if Heikki wins, but I would like Hammy to make up some points. He's been faster than Kimi all weekend so I think there is a chance, even though overtaking is very difficult here.

I didn't mean it like "the ****er didn't even congratulate", I just meant that all the other drivers that were present very socializing, and Lewis was staring the results intensively. It was just a strong contrast and showed how disappointed he was.

There's nothing wrong with being disappointed after non-perfect performance, right? Wasn't trying to bash on him...

No need to get personal, that's frowned upon you know.
Anyway just forget about it, every word used to discuss Fisi is a waste of time and space anyway.

Let's be happy for Heikki and hope that Kimi and Lewis will produce an interesting battle tomorrow

Heikki and Webber    I think Heikkis the lighter of the two Mclarens but it will be interesting to see how much fuel he has compared to Kimi cos the Ferraris seemed to struggle quite a bit. I thought Lewis was too cautious in the 2nd + 3rd sector on his final run after Mclaren telling him not to overdrive.

Vettel and Piquet did great jobs. Should be a good battle for the small points positions with Massa and Kubica looking to come through for some points.

Had Lewis scored pole, it would have been a media lap. As he made a mistake and on his 2nd lap he was too slow, he's a bad driver.Whatever he does, he's bashed.

Interesting things/moments.

- Steve Hallam to Heikki after his pole: "On pole by a MILE." :smoking:
- Richard Hopkirk to Lewis: "Fastest S1 and S2. An overdrive on S3". You can do better Lewis. :o
- Ferrari again screwing Massa.
- BMW screwing Kubica.
- Williams screwing Nico Rosberg.

That's something different than team and RK says. They say it's similar problem to FP2. What is the source of YOUR info?

I am happy to see Nick is back to his old self in qually.

My jaw hit the floor when Webber popped into provisional pole, great lap from him and the Red Bull has been strong here all weekend. He even seemed a bit surprised himself in the press conference, so I think he may have a decent amount of fuel (maybe not as much as Heikki and Kimi though). He is really showing what he can do this year with a decent car that doesn't break down every race.

Great lap from Hekki as well, way faster than his teammate (who was overdriving), he has looked faster all weekend too. Hopefully he can actually have some luck in the race tomorrow though, he has been lacking it so far this year.

Good damage limitation from Kimi, I don't think the car was capable of much more than that, he tends to run a bit heavy in qualifying too, but we'll have to wait and see tomorrow.

Of course, with the possibility of a wet/wet-dry race tomorrow, anything can happen in the race. Even without the rain the grid is fairly mixed up so it should make for an interesting race :)

If it rains tomorrow then maybe Hamilton can amend for his mistakes. Rain will stop him overdriving at least  He obviously has a lot of finesse but his age and will to beat everybody is actually making him slower.

As for our polesitter, best part of qualifying was the press conference where he showed how to do a natural smile to Mr "We eat them with our metal forks" to his left. Kimi, if you want to learn how to smile you could do a lot worse with studying someone who comes from Finland mate ....

Excellent for Mark as well. If you are more interested in people than teams then the first row must be the best this season for drivers you'd want to have a driving lesson and a pint with.

I'd like Mark to win tomorrow just because HK will win no doubt in the future.

Kimi to crash into Lewis on the first corner after a huge cockup so to produce that 400 post thread on here ;)

Regards

Andy

Kovy did a great job but he will def be stopping first

Hope webber can get off the line reasonably well in the race given that the red bull is not known for its great starts or it could be another wasted qauli position. Rain might not be a bad thing as the red bull looked quick in the wet

Good from vettel as well

Wet race both Webber and Alonso on for a podium

Shamilton - whats happening? :rotfl:

I wouldn't say Piquet congratulated him, looked more like he had a bit of a butt feel when Heikki wasn't looking.

I was shaking for a good 5 minutes after qually, great driving by Mark. It's nice that the Red Bull is starting to get into range where he can go a little light and have a shot up the front. He hasn't been in that situation since '05! Hopefully they keep moving forward for the rest of the season.

I did not watch it, but from the sound of it, Webber was good! Kova too - is that his first pole?

Webber said before Magny, that RBR would not be in good sorts because they would not be putting on their major aero upgrade for France, and that the rest of the teams were making major step ups for Magny. Although MW came 6th there, RBR were getting their major upgrade for the British GP, it was said because the team is smaller they were not able to make the French GP. So the step up seems real, as MW got a 3rd in Q2 (although top teams often bank a fast lap and then save the tyres) and although likely not so much fuel in MW's RBR4, MW's 2nd is a long way in front of his season competition. Hoping for rain though, despite not likely having a wet setup he MW was fastest car last year in the wet at Fuji, so maybe MW can get back in front of Trulli in the points struggle for the middle order teams.

Yeah, the contrast between Heikki/Mark and Kimi was huge. That's just how Kimi is though, no matter what happens (good or bad) he doesn't seem the least bit excited/interested. He may not be the most exciting public persona, but you can't expect everyone to be outgoing (especially with the mind-numbingly boring questions they ask in the PC)

Heikki did a really good job, he was fantastic. I wouldn't be surprised if he's heavier than Lewis, Massa and Kimi.

I generally think everyone is quite heavy due to the expected rain, nobody is going to 3-stop.

Bridgestone predicts grain on the option tyre and severe tyre wear if it rains and the track dries.

Stefano Domenicali, Team Principal
"This is definitely not the result we expected nor the one we wanted. Problems such as the one that befell Felipe are serious and I am very sorry for him as we prevented him from giving it his best shot.

WTH happened this time?

Willy Rampf, Technical Director
"Both our drivers were well on their way in the first two qualifying sessions, and only needed a single lap to easily advance into the final stage of qualifying. However, in Q3 Robert couldn’t complete his fast lap, and over the radio told us about a technical problem with the car. Nick’s performance was impressive and put him fifth fastest. We are all very happy about that. The weather prediction for tomorrow is mixed. We are prepared for anything that might come.”"

basically both Massa and Kubica had problems today and could not show their true qualifying performance..

Lewis is gonna be the top topic here today. Had he scored pole, it would have been down to fuel. Had he scored second behind Heikki, he would have underperformed and this would have shown how Heikki is so much better driver. As he was fourth behind Kimi, there's no space for anything other than bashing him on every aspect.

Ah, there's a small bit of space in order to say that Heikki is quite light and that Kimi is heavier than anyone else.

I can't understand the decision by Hamilton to stay out even after his off. Surely his entry into the final corners was hindered and so his speed over the start/finish straight was less than optimal. Why not just pit? His tyres would have been dirty too.

I wonder if he had to stay out to burn some fuel?

Anyway.. I hope Hamilton and Raikkonen are on heavy setups and Kova was filled light to act as a spoiler at the front. Should be a good race.
