A very special mention to my brother-in-law Bill who was cooking on the Barbeque yesterday was taken ill late afternoon with breathing difficulties and spent the night in hospital getting treatment and tests, he is due to be released we hope today but it has been very worrying we wish him a speedy recovery.

Very sorry to hear this, Richard. Please pass on to Bill all our very best wishes for a rapid recovery, and do keep us posted.

It must be said that I did the persuading, to replace correct answers with incorrect ones, a special talent ! Mind you, those answers would have been right for some questions !

:rotfl:

I'm reminded of course of that great virtuoso of the concert piano, Mr Eric Morecambe:

"I'm playing all the right notes—but not necessarily in the right order."

Graham and Dave Hollands did most of the work on our team, but I was mightily impressed by the "youngster" Richard, knowing the year of Jochen's seat fitting in the Eagle Offy, he was not born until two decades later ! Inspired or what ! It must be said that I did the persuading, to replace correct answers with incorrect ones, a special talent ! Mind you, those answers would have been right for some questions ! The knowledge acquired by the gathered enthusiasts, is just incredible, nice to be amongst fellow anoraks !

Sterling, I may be young, but I'm not THAT young (Regrettably) I feel like an absolute fraud getting a winners certificate but if I hadnt got the Rindt question right, we'd lost by one.

May I add our thanks and congratulations? Once again the calm efficiency of the whole event could only come about due to an immense amount of hard work both on the day and during the days and weeks leading up to it.

Many thanks.
The good news is that Bill is back home, I spoke to Jane last night and they are going to take things easy, it was the combination of some sort of viral infection Bill developed a day or so earlier, expending vast energy when he was already feeling well below par over a period of hours - he arrived at the hall at 7.00am soon after we had started setting up -and standing over the main BBQ for so long with the heat smoke and fumes, just all became a bit overpowering - hopefully he can have his feet up for a well deserved rest today.Gave us all a bit of a scare. Get well soon.

At tea time we presented Mike & Bob with this specially commissioned cartoon drawn by the highly talented Rod Waller in Perth Western Australia superbly catches the theme of the day.

A belated "Many thanks once again" from me and my mate Bill (who did the M25 shuffle) down from the Midlands.
It's good to hear that Chef Bill is back home and recovering.

I never cease to be amazed by the depth of knowledge in that hall every three/four months. And I just have pinch myself when I think about being in the presence of Motorsport Royalty. I count myself as very lucky to get up close and personal with these legends.

It was great to be able to bring David McKinney in the Frogeye, and despite his warning about a dodgy hip, he entered and exited the car with the grace of a ballerina. I'm pleased that he took my advice of the earplugs!
Apologies to the owner of the Le Mans Lotus XI who had to endure the embarrassment of having my car parked next to it. I promise that it will get washed one day

Glyn, it's John Campbell-Jones, not Cole.

I liked this event, a bit different in how it all turned out, but I would've liked more of Mike Costin, who was far more humble and down-to-earth than I expected. But to do that, meant cutting out Bob Dance, which wouldn't have worked. In retrospect, maybe a Bob & Bob show of Dance and Sparshott would've been a good idea, but nonetheless, the event was well worth it.

The food was outstanding and I am very happy to now have tried the parfait! Worth £30 all by itself! Also, what was nice was to speak to a few people I normally just say "hello" to and that's it - Sterling, in particular, this time. But I would've still liked to have chatted to a couple of other chaps.

Belated thanks to everyone who made last Saturday such an entertaining day, parfait was world class.

Can't believe Tim, Regazzoni and I lost the quiz to a team that has one member who has reached Level 39 of Flower Shop ! Congratulations any way

I was at Silverstone Classic Press Day yesterday and was pleased to see that Bob Dance has made a significant recovery, and passed on TNF's best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

Hope that Bill also makes a swift and full recovery.

As you all know Murray Walker is a great friend to the TNF Film show, so I was shocked to hear from him a few moments ago that he has just got home from 3 weeks in German and UK hospitals
Following a fall he has broken his pelvis and can only just hobble about on crutches.
Bear in mind he will be 90 in just a few months getting back to normal is likely to take some time.

I have sent him all our best wishes and asked him to keep us up to date on progress. Bad enough thing to happen at any age.

Get well soon Murray .With our kindest regards.

Just fishing out the thread- a brief thank you to everyone who attended yesterday Paddy Hopkirk , Alec Poole, Fred Gallagher and Maurice Hamilton were all quite superb.
Paddy got away safely by helicoptor to his next speaking engagement in Poole later in the evening.
Pictures etc to follow.

An truly excellent event once again, but where did the time go? Once again, the calibre of the guests was world class (literally) and that's before we even take account some of the people sitting in the audience!
My thanks to you, Christine and all the team, who once again, kept us entertained and very well fed

I met Geoff Hawkes again at the film show. I turns out we both went to BARNFIELD SCHOOL Bromley Kent in 50's & 60's. There was another "old boy" at a previous film show- Who are you? We don't believe you attended yesterday.

A great day, one of the very best in my opinion, but then I love rallying ! great guests that waxed lyrical for far too short a time, Paddy, Alec, Fred & Maurice and spur of the moment, David Kirkham and Willy Cave...where did the time go? Great catering by Jane and team and the front office running smothly by Christine. Thank you all, a great day amongst like minded enthusiasts and friends.

Quite so Sterling and as well as those mentioned thanks to Glyn for running the quiz. There were only three of us at our table until Paddy, Alec and Fred joined us, so we were then able to win! One question asked us to name four chaps, two of whom were at our table (Paddy and Alec), one I saw today (Paul Easter) and the fourth was an easily recognised Finn.

Thanks for the kind words Allan, a well deserved win for your table but a group of racing types led by Greg Field gave you a good run as did the rest of the "teams".
I must thank Richard and his team for making this yet another huge success, it is a pleasure to do a little to help out with the quiz but people like Geoff Hawkes deserve a special mention for all the hard work they do behind the scenes.

As others have said this was yet another memorable day. The quality of the event is illustrated by the audience it attracts - where else could two people be invited to speak without any prior notice and then make such wonderfully entertaining and informative contributions.

Congratulations once again to all involved.

Many thanks indeed to all of you that attended on Saturday I know many of you travel vast distances. We depend entirely upon your continued support in order to keep the project going.
This was our 14th show we are truly blessed to get acceptances from really great guest speakers who give up their time free and are always so entertaining with stories of days long gone by.
Our next meeting will be in the new year Saturday 11th January do please put it in your diaries now for what we hope will be another fun day of motorsport nostalgia for members. Many thanks for coming on Saturday.

Richard, a brief thanks to you and all your Merry Men (& Women) for yet another great day's entertainment.

The Brode was wonderfully indiscreet and opened up yet another fascinating window into a long lost world of motorsport from our youth.

A very funny man, but some touching anecdotes too about his mates Ronnie & Frank.

Oh, and let me say I had very little to do with our table's quiz victory...well done Gareth,Sterling,Peter et al.

Great day as usual Rich, everything was superb, the Brode even better, and Gareth was on fire in the quiz!

For anybody that has not attended one of these Film show days, you really are missing a treat !

My only complaint about the day was sometimes not being able to hear The Brode's anecdotes, for Stephen's howls of laughter, DB could have been a comedian as an alternative to a racing driver !

As always, a truly great day. David Brodie was great value, perhaps in a future visit he might get round to answering a second question from Simon. What a wealth of anecdotes and insights he has, and all presented with great humour and candour.

Many thanks and congratulations to all involved, both "front of house" and those slaving over hot stoves and tea urns.

Dave Brodie mentioned his book several times yesterday. On his website he talks about it... "Last Train to Cockfosters" and there are excerpts. Unfortunately there is no indication of a publisher etc, nor does Amazon have anything. Can anyone give me a pointer towards getting a copy?

You will not find David's book anywhere because it has not been published . He puts a couple of chapters up on his website from time to time.

Unfortunately publishing your own books these days is something of a license to lose money. We did discuss this yesterday as clearly amongst those of us , there certainly is demand..

Simon Arron of course would , as a professional highly regarded and experience author would be perfect to proof read and edit the present manuscript in to  an attractively presented an concise book for the motor sport literary market. As you may imagine the present draft would make rather a lengthy multi-volume tome. It may of course need a glance or two by the lawyers first.

So if you know a suitable publisher well disposed to this sort of book, maybe we should start lobbying for it to go into print - it would certainly be a great read.

Just to add my thanks to Richard and the Gang - another memorable day, with the Brode as the latest in a long list of 'star turns', the (uncensored) like of which you won't hear anywhere else.  Glad Wendy Markey was also allowed to get a word or two in!
