Unless the agreement has changed since Indy 2005, they'll need to at least do the formation lap. Besides, if Friday is a disaster, that'll be even more keen for track time, so they won't to waste FP3 or Q1. What'll hurt them is that unlike testing, when they break down, that's it for a given session.

Yeah you're probably right. Provided the car is in any way functional (which it ought to be) then they'll do as much as they can whenever they can. I was using 'disaster' in the "where do these wires go" kind of way

don't know whats with the tsunami of negative vibes I'm getting from the people here, but to me this car is way better developed than Virgin or Lotus's and that extra development time would be better than squandering man hours on trying to squeeze little to no extra performance out of the chassis.

I personally think the livery is quite nice

Unlike the other new teams they'll probably be away from the backmarkers after the first race.

How can a car that hasn't turned a wheel be regarded as "better developed" than those that have? Perhaps I'm reading this wrong, but.... aen't people getting a bit, well, carried away here. Talking about how quick the car looks compared to the other newcomers? What planet are you on?

I wish them well, as I wish the other new teams well, but..., come on, this is a ridiculous state of affairs; to be turning up at the first race of the season without a single meaningful mile on the clock. How many of the current teams, with years of data to work back with, would believe it a good plan to turn up at Bahrain in this way?

Car looks OK, but it is ridiculous that they are allowed to participate in a grand prix without doing even one lap of any track. 4 hours they'll have in Bahrain before qualifying really isn't enough. They should at least run a straight-line shakedown to see if the car actually works (FIA allows that this year, right?)...

It does seem slightly incongruous that a driver must qualify for a super licence in order to participate in F1 but that the car does not (apart from a crash test). They should count their lucky stars that the 107% rule is gone.

Don't see why people are getting worked up, so what if they have not tested yet. They will test during the testing session (and qualifying and racing) at Bahrain. At worst they will be slow during the first few races.

I think the shape of the car is gorgeous. That gray is just no color for open wheel car imho so having some free time today, I decided to see it in some colors.

Anyone think it's simplicity is akin to the simplicity of the Jordan 191 on it's debut? Granted that was 19 years ago but still, sometimes starting off simple is a good approach :)

(I'm being optimistic for them...)

Nicely done. First or fourth for me. Or maybe the third. Or second.

The basic shape of the design of the livery is attractive (I like the sweep of the strip in Spanish colours, although that's a little broken by the shape of the nose) but the main colour is an odd choice. I'm hoping it will look better when I see it on the TV, though, because so far it's looked different in just about each picture I've seen.

pay as go.....Senna at least was beating quarter of the recent f1 field in gp2. Chandhok was no slouch too, so don't worry

I don't really rate GP2 that highly, especially the year Senna competed. He is a lovely chap, but beating a few guys in GP2 in a top team is nothing to write home about. There are literally hundreds of drivers in the world who could do the same given the same investment and opportunity he and others had. It's one of the biggest and well kept secrets of motorsport! The guys at the top aren't as good as people would like you to believe.

What we do see is every other a year a genuine talent come through. Hulkenberg - Alonso - Hamilton... but not all that often. There are many more people out there who simply don't have the cash to get near he sharp end. It has nothing to do with talent.

Oh, I was just pointing out his penchant for a charcoaly grey mishmash with reddy/orangey bits :D

In fact, when you think back, there should never have been any doubt what the livery would be.

I like the appearance of the car. Congratulations to all concerned, it is a difficult project to get a brand new car to an F1 grid.

Have to agree with the green one!

I wonder what it is about green racing cars. I don't like the colour green (despite my nationality), I never like it on sports jerseys yet for some reason on a racing car it always looks beautiful. It's weird. I can't remember a bad livery that was green (I'm not including Honda's Earth Campaign abomination - that wasn't a livery, it was a drunken vomit).

I wouldn't care if they ran it in raw c/f, I am just chuffed that they have made it. None in their right mind should expect anything miraculous from the new teams in this seasons championship.

By what Kolles has said, FP1.

Or if things do not work, FP2... Being a Dallara it should be ok, I expect them to have fairly little trouble in getting it going. What I am curious to see is if Dallara just made a car for Campos, or if they made a car to showcase what they can do. Right now, I think they just made a car for Campos - on the budget given. If Kolles were to keep Dallara around for next year, I would expect something different.

Additionally, depending on the budget HRT is putting together, they could get Dallara to build a b-spec this year.

By what Bruno said yesterday, I'd say there isn't so much money flowing...

The future of the Hispania
"It is difficult to answer this. We'll only get to know if will be in the end of the championship during the championship. Unfortunately it doesn't depends only of us. We'll have to work the hardest possible to find sponsors to guarantee the presence of the team this year and the next one, but this depends very much on how things will be. But I believe that the team will have a solid future."
(Bruno Senna)

Yes, you will find me saying elsewhere, that I am really worried for the team. They did get past the first bump in the road, but lots more on the way for sure. I worry that they might be a one-year wonder like so many other teams. Unless VW/Audi steps in to save the day - again I think Audi is interesting due to their growing markets.

At the same time, why deny Lopez and his now $6 million as a test driver for Fridays? I wonder if his sponsors would have pulled out if he was only a reserve driver though. We know he lost $2 million in sponsors dropping out, and then there is that $800,000 roughly that is where?

No it has not moved an inch using it's own power, this is highly dangerous and no team should be allowed to take part in a race weekend without testing.

Honestly, what a bunch of spoilt chicken little soft cocks we have on this board. just start her up and go, how is that dangerous with the ACRES off run off in Bahrain.

Harden up.

I can't believe they're going to turn up without a wheel turning at all. Surely they can find a airfield somewhere or a non F1 track that they can use for even half a day?

Given all the concerns voiced by other teams and drivers, why not give them some dispensation to have an extra test session at Bahrain before FP1 ?

While I fully agree that the current testing rules are an abomination, it's a car, a fast one supposedly but hardly the Hindenburg or the Titanic.

Apparantly, the car should be faster than Virgin and Lotus.

That's according to Senna, but that might not neccesarily be the case.

That's interesting for 2 reasons. Firstly it shows that he's not simply 'reckoning' they're quicker; and secondly it suggests that a shakedown has already taken place.

It rather suggests that Dallara ran some of their numbers through a computer.

Senna said : " Lotus and Virgin are only one second quicker than GP2 made by Dallara. Our F1 car is 2 second quicker than GP2. So we are quicker than Lotus and Virgin."

By the way, about those statements:

After studying the data from the most recent Barcelona test, the 26-year-old notes that the new Virgin and Lotus cars appeared only about a second faster than a contemporary GP2 car — which is built by Dallara Automobili.
“And according to their [Dallara] estimates, we should be at least two seconds faster than a GP2 car right from the word go,”

Also relevant to add is:

“Obviously, it’s not going to be easy for us,”
“For example, we’ll be starting out with suspension components made of metal instead of carbon fibre, so the car will weigh 20 kilos more than we would have liked,”

Edit:

It rather suggests that Dallara ran some of their numbers through a computer.

Exactly, see:

“In Colin Kolles, Geoff Willis and Jacky Eeckelaert, the team has brought some established F1 talent on board. Also, the basic data that we are getting from the wind tunnel and some simulations run by Dallara are looking quite promising.”

Well it seems USF1 lied again when they said they would return J-Lo's deposit of $880,000. He needed that money released as his down payment at HRT to secure the seat since the rest of of his sponsorship money is locked up until the season starts. So USF1 screwed him one last time.....

Dallara have enough experience that I expect a chassis they designed won't be a rolling disaster. The biggest worry I have for HRT is that a crucial flaw that requires some work will only be discovered in qualifying. Say, something akin to the troubles Virgin had with hydraulics.

Surely the 20 kilos must be for the whole car, not only for the suspension... The suspension pars are certainly heaver than they should be, but I cannot imagine that they alone are 20 kgs too heavy...
