Hi guys, saw there are quite a few Brazilians in this forum and thought we could start a thread to discuss on the Brazilian related matters to F1, which are many…

We could discuss drivers performance: Massa, Rubens, Nelsinho?, Senna?, DeGrassi?

We could discuss and share info on the Brazil GP in Sao Paulo, share pics, preparations, coordinate attendance, event info, etc

We could discuss how to enjoy F1 races together, not sure if someone already does this, but would be awesome to get together to watch some of the races together (I am in Sampa btw)

Don’t know what else we could come up with, but F1 and Brazil related

Thoughts?

Em português?

- Barrichello fala merda demais, é muito chorão. Até hoje ele fala besteiras e reclama como se fosse um novato, um 'brasileirinho' perdido nesse mundão. às vezes fico puto que ele e eu façamos aniversário no mesmo dia;
- até ser acertado pela mola, o Massa esteva no seu auge. Rápido, competitivo e constante, sem erros. Torcerei muito que o acidente não afeta sua pilotagem;
- Briatore é um bosta. Tomara que o Piquet consiga guiar para alguém ano que vem;
- Não sei o que pensar do Senna e Di Grassi.

Valeu!

No problem with portuguese (other tha forum rules! :eek: ). Also, I wrote in english beacuse there could be no-Brazilians which would like to participate. The idea is for the subject to be around Brazil in the F1, which obviously should attract mainly Brazilians, but if there is people interested in contribute, believe the forum is open for everyone.

= Agree on Barrichello, he is whining too much, even for his standards! …believe it’s because this might be his last chance of actually having a realistic opportunity to a WDC (well, at least when the season started, its too late now for him), and he know that at his age these chances wont come around again… think he is more pissed at himself than with anything or anyone else.

= About Massa, I feel so bad by his accident …he was obviously not having a good year, but he was still showing a strong case inside Ferrari and consolidating himself. To be honest I have no concerns about him even if Alonso switches… hope I am correct! Everyone said Kmi would destroy him and he would be Rubinho 2.0 again, and it wasn’t the case. Lets be clear he is no A.Senna or Schumacher, but he has courage, integrity and has talent, noone denies that now.

= Nelsinho is doing big mistakes in my opinion. Agree that Briatore is a babaca, but fighting your employers on the way out is never a good for your reputation, specially if you have to carry the weight of being Nelsão’s son... so people will always question on which merits you are really in your F1 seat. The worst thing you can do is fight a pro-fighter like Briatore who also happens to be you manager …hard to see him in any seat unless PiquetF1 comes across, and then still we will always question if he is only there because of his name, which is a pity really, since I do believe the kid has talent, he fought Hamilton fairly till the end in the GP2, and he has succeeded in most the series he got into, so he should let his CV and on-track performance (if and when he finds it) do the talking.

Sorry. :blush:

- Barrichello talks too much trash, he's a cry baby. Even today he says things and complains like a rookie. SOmetimes I'm pissed we both have the same birthday;
- Massa was at his peak, IMO, until the accident. I hope the accident doesn't affect him;
- Briatore sucks. I hope Piquet gets a shot at another team;
- I dunno about Senna and Di Grassi.

Brazilian auto racing its in a terrible state right now. If Bruno Senna doesnt make it, I fear that it will be a very long time till we see a Brazilian driver in F1 again.

Ok, I'm in, from Rio.

Just to add that this Brazilian thread doesn't need to be about F1 exclusively, there's Stock Car Brasil, Indy, Kart, 500 Km São Paulo, F3 Sudamerica,...

About those mentioned drivers:

- Barrichello: The guy can whine as much as he wants, but he's not deliveringm, that's the point.

- Massa: I think he was not at his peak yet. When he get well we'll know if he will be already at that peak (something may click) or with it will take more time than it would.

- Piquet Jnr: Briatore is the same Briatore as ever. NP Jnr has performed poorly, that's fact. But I still preferer him to Nakagima, Alguersuari and other prospects from GP2 or test seats. He will never be like his father, that's a no brainer, but I would think about him if I were Manor, Campos or USF1. If he goes to Indy, then it's career endind.

- B. Senna: He is a driver to watch. But this was supposed to be THE year for him. I'm afraid he won't get a chance as good as this one.

- Di Grassi: Was a great prospect after the 2007 and 2008 GP2 Season. He is performing well, but seens like his Renault connections won't do any good for him in matters of F1.

agreed ...believe its suffering from the same decease the US open wheelers do, which is the desproportionate success of the stock cars series, which leaves little room in the media and spectators/fans minds for any local formula series. Southamerica F3 is kind of a joke in terms of real competitivenes.

I hope DiGrassi and B.Senna make it in the new 26 cars grid, but at the end believe nelsinho's case is teaching a leson of how its hard to get into F1, but is even harder to keep yourself in, even if you dad is an influential WDC.

Errr.. I'm not sure about that, Copa NEXTEL Stock Car does not have such a success. At least, not if compared to F1.
I dare you to list 10 drivers from the championship by heart. And the race itself is quite boring.

Brazlian's OW(in Brazilian territory) is mainly dead because of CBA's terrible organization. But all other motorsport disciplines around here are struggling to survive right now!
Hopefully that Formula Fiat that Massa talked about can bring some fresh air.

Jacarepaguá is a metaphor for the state of autosport in Brazil.

In a 36 cars season both can have a seat, in a 26 cars season, only B. Senna is able to get one seat.
But I've the feeling that we'll see Rubens again in 2010.
And Massa will be there in a Ferrari, for sure.

Nothing compares to F1, and certainly cant name 10 Stock Car drivers ...probably 4 or 5, but what other series do get the attendance and publicity levels in Interlagos for example?, no other series enjoys that popularity, mainly due to Globo endorsement and sponsorship. Agree on the CBA tho, its terrible, and if there is still some talent finding its way to europe directly from the kart junior series is only on some private sponsorship or family efforts. :confused:

Didnt heard of that formula fiat ...whats that about? :p

Even Globo sponsorship is a poor one. There isn't full transmition of all races.
No other serie come even closer to Stock Car, but itself had lost many sponsors and a manufacter.

Even though I really can not see what's the purpose of this thread, I would just say Formula Truck is the one receiving more attendance nowadays apparently, closely followed by Stock Cars. Unfortunately nobody follows F3 Sudamericana, the one and only real step in the ladder to European open wheel's series and, eventually, to F1, of course.

Brazilian here but living in the US...

I do agree Barrichello should keep his mouth shut but this is consequence of his education and how his family acts. I think he had problems at the beginning because of Rubao (his dad) managing his career and later because he climb to be second to Schumacher. He is fast and a great setup driver - Schummi copied his setup many times. What he lacks is the mind power needed to succeed in this sport. Other than that hats off to him, it has been a long and winning career, no matter what.

Massa is there to stay and even after the accident we will still have a lot of victories coming from him.

Senna and Grassi are good but I'm afraid that their moment are fading...

I agree that the moment does not promise very much but we thought the same when Senna died and then came Massa... We may ending up with someone new. The best that coud happen is to have some lower formulas back in racing in Brazil. I think not having open wheel in our local championships is the biggest problem nowadays.

Well, good to have the Brazilian thread...at least we can fight the fanboys...specially Kimi's, which by the way, is leaving....

Alonso will be another story. If Massa beats him then we may say we have Senna's heir... but I doubt... the Spanish seems to me the better since Senna, even better than Schummi

Cheers all

Agree on Alonso, not sure if better than Schumi, but certainly one of the same class and way better than Kimi. Think that overall, considering the level of the initial expectations on the Massa vs Kimi performance, think Massa did very well... and I have confidence he can keep the good level verus Alonso

I don't like the refueling in Stock Car and the riders seem too eager to bump their way through.

It was rumored Rede Record was trying to get Stock car coverage. I'd like to see that happening. The schedule at TV Globo is poor and sometimes we don't even get the entire race.

I guess that won't happen, but would be good for the Stock Car to really have a decent coverage at free TV.

Anyone knows the next races at interlagos?

I usually got the events schedule from www.ainterlagos.com.br but seems its offline for a while. Want to take my small kid to the races (interlagos), but some with not many ppl... any recomendations? was thinking of the next GT3 event when it comes back to sampa (21-23 august), any other recomendation? something fun but wihch is not full of people, will be his second time at interlagos, but the first one was a stock car race, and was so packed with people he couldnt see much, would like this one to be a more relaxed experience.

Me neither, unless we could post in portuguese, which isnt the case.

But there are many brazilian forums where we can do that.

btw, I'm in Brasilia but go to SP quite often. I will also be attending the GP at Interlagos in October, so an Atlas meet-and-greet is not out of the cards...(Café Photo, anyone? :p )

Here and also here.

GT3 Brasil is a nice choice, for sure.
It's great for a kid to watch Porches, Ferraris and Lambos on track. It's a pitty that there aren't more cars on the grid. In the same day, there will be a round of Troféo Maserati and another one of Clio Cup.

There's also the Campeonato Paulista de Velocidade no Asfalto (16/August), it's quite low profile but is busy.

IIRC, after that GP3 round Interlagos will be closed until the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix.

For the non-Brazilian looking for pics :p :

I guess not, because he doesn't need any headlines, it's like he was JV.
And his suggestion is not making the visor stronger, but to change the way it's fixed to the helmet.

Simplefying:

- Burti's helmet with Felipe's visor = even worse injuries
- Felipe's helmet with Burti's visor = safer helmet

That's something pretty noticeble in our tracks, besides Interlagos, all other tracks are quite dull.
Jacarepagua here in Rio is a good exemple of a track that could be great if revamped, but it will be demolished...
And another all-but-good street circuit will be used for Indy next year. At least this time, I guess, the Rio sceneries will be explored, once the planned layout has the Sugarloaf Mountain and the Guanabara Bay as background.

Great Rubens in Valencia ...but wtf was that start (again), he seems to be the only in the grd with that clutch problems at starts, he totaly ruined a perfect opporunity to really put him back as a real contender for this year.

About PQ Jr ...you guys belive he is behind all the fuzz about the FIA investigaton? its weird nothing happened for a year, and now suddenly it all comes up again just as he fights with Briatore... weird, specially beacuse that would effectively terminate his career.

Funny to see how nervous Galvão got on live TV when Leme came with the story, guess he though PQ Sr would call in live and give them a full mouth... they sut-it for a while and only after returned with a more mild story.

Also, any news on Massa's tests in miami?

I may be mistaken, but I think that Button had a similiar problem once.

It's not news to anyone that Galvão and Piquet Snr are not exactly best friends.
It's kind of strange tho listen this thing coming from Reginaldo Leme, I'm surprised at it.
Antônio Pizzonia had reported via twitter that a 'bomb' would be dropped this weekend too.
I think that would be a much more than a coincidence for both knowing about it early.
The Brazlian media is reporting that, if such claims are correct Briatore would be banned from F1 and both Alonso anda Piquet Jr would face some kind of have (ze) pushiment too.

EDIT: Should be noticed that Felipe Massa was one of those that had accusated Briatore of such orders.

Also, any news on Massa's tests in miami?

I've got no updates yet.

Well let's not forget that Virgin also signed Luis Razzia as their 4th driver; he might end up in an F1 raceseat in the next years as well.

Hopefully!

Barrichello, Senna or Di Grassi? Which Brazilian driver in a Cosworth powered car will have an edge over their compatriots?

It should be Barrichello.

It should be Barrichello.

That's what will probably happen, because of his experience but specially because of the Williams car.

We've just arrived to the end of another season.
And if the last time there were hope, this year there were huge disappointments and doubts.
There is a consistent possibility that there'll be only two Brazilians racing at the circus following year.

What could we say about 2010?

Barrichello was really the one who performed better?
Will Massa up his game in 2011 or will he keep being Alonso's bitch?
Does di Grassi have a place at Marussia-Virgin?
Will Senna have a seat?
Will Razia test at least?

Also, after Vettel's title, Germany has achieved 8 WDC's just like the Portuguese speaking South American country, what is on the horizon for the next few years?

I think Brazil's into some promising years, there are alot of youngsters who seem to be talentful, for example this new Ferrari academy driver that signed and will be testing at Abu Dhabi , also Luiz Felipe Nasr who is backed up by Kimi, and with Massa investing in a open wheel category that launches Brazilians straight to a Ferrari test that's some nice advantages for these next years in terms of development.

Should mention also Razia ofc, and one or other folk that drop by every year at GP2;

Tho even if many of them will not become race winners (unfortunately). I'd say its good for the country to keep it's long tradition and visibility in the sport.

Every one there, Felipe, Rubens, etc.. are heroes to many of the boys, the merrier the better.

César Ramos!
I'm curious about how he'll perform. It's a test, I know, but this could help him to find sponsors after his Italian F3 championship.

Flexa, as you've said, Luiz Felipe Nasr did relatively well in British F3 this year (IIRC, second best Mercedes powered driver) surely will have all the help that his uncle could provide.
Massa's Formula Future is something that I believe that will only have some effect at five four years from now.
Unfortunately, I think that Razia and Valério will never climb to more than third drivers.

What worries me is the fact we may face a gap of three to five years, between NAP, Bruno and di Grassi generation to the next one. And such generation was highly expected.

Tho even if many of them will not become race winners (unfortunately). I'd say its good for the country to keep it's long tradition and visibility in the sport.

Always.
