Sorry Dan, I bow to your superior knowledge on beverages that make you legless.
But clearly not gutless.

Does anyone have photos of Nigel Webb's E-type (below) when he came round a bend and found a static car sideways in front of him and had to make a very impressive avoidance please?

Does anybody know what caused the red T70 to spear sideways at the start? It appeared quite undamaged and continued to circulate, while the Ford GT and the white T70 suffered heavy frontal damage. Presumably they hit each other in the melee?

Thanks for that, great photo! There was an incident in front of us on the Saturday during practice where the Grey E type with the perspex rear end appeared to suddenly loose power between the exit of St Marys and Lavant. The waved Yellows went out quickly, but the red E type clearly didn't see then and just about collected the slow car. It took to the grass and shot between the other car and the tyre wall.

The red car shot back 90degrees across the track just as the grey car, the original CUT 7, went past. Close........

Now that I am back from my southern sojourn I can elaborate a little on David's trip of a liftetime, having been designated his official photographer in the nerve wracking build up to his ride in the Saturday Sir Stirling tribute parade.I had the great privilege of finding myself in a position to take these…

I had to endure a gruelling hour or so in the paddock with TNF celebrity and well known typographical error, David Bread as his mood swung from optimism to despair.

Unfortunately, Doug, there was nobody around to record me assisting David with the double sided sticky tape inside his trilby.Well wangled David - two questions, how did you keep your hat on, and any news of the earwax?

I managed to wangle a ride in a Minisprint in the parade - you think it was a squeeze in the Maserati! - there were 4 of us in the Mini -and those missing 3 inches make all the difference, as the nun said to the Bishop!
Posted 27 September 2009 - 20:25
I hope you all recovered.
Clever notion, the Minisprint. Unless parked next to a standard Mini, one might not notice.

Pedant that I am, no-one in the UK would have worn a Firestone badge on their overalls in the late 'fifties (which must be the period he is trying to portray, judging from his helmet) and the embroidery on the Esso badge is rubbish.

Yeah, but give him an 'A' for effort. I applaud the fellow for the spirit in which he undertook his effort, which I think is more appropriate than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.Pedant that I am, no-one in the UK would have worn a Firestone badge on their overalls in the late 'fifties (which must be the period he is trying to portray, judging from his helmet) and the embroidery on the Esso badge is rubbish.

It's a genuine type 54, the first one produced. Achille Varzi won the 1933 Avus GP in it. I'm sure someone can provide much more detail. It was driven to Goodwood on the road from Wales.Someone would it provide information on this Bugatti Type 54 with the licence plate 8264 NV1. Is this a replica of Ray Jones or reconstruction?
Posted 29 September 2009 - 11:30
When I went to Goodwood in the fifties it was mostly duffle coats, cavalry twills and bobble hats. I didn't see any of these at the Revival. It must be global warming. The Revival is not a movie, and there is no costume department to get the crowd scene's right. I'm surprised so many people get it anywhere near "right" as dress code was rather random in period, IIRC. Apart from the nobs & trendies, you just did the best with what you'd got. I first marshalled in 1968 in a fake fur jacket, and I can recall crombies, gabardines and parkas! The Revival is re-creating what people expect, not how it really was!
