It's now wearing the FAI/Moss Security warpaint from the 1989 season, when it was the Goode team's 3rd car, driven by Sean Walker. Damon Hill only raced it once, co-driving with Walker in a 1-hour/2-driver race at Donington early in the '89 season. Like a lot of Sierras it was later modified for Thundersaloons before later being restored to Group A spec and Listerine livery.

Is this the same car in it's Sean Walker guise...?

and in Thundersaloons with Stuart Jackson at the wheel in 92 and 93 ?

Hi Simon- no, that's Walker's second FAI Sierra from 1990, after he'd switched teams from Graham Goode to Rouse over the winter. The Goode car was red, white and black with 'Moss Security' sponsorship, as seen in Bruce's pic a few posts back, with the FAI sponsorship much less prominent- mainly on the bonnet and roof I think
http://farm3.static....f0495c3f5_b.jpg
I don't think we've had an original period pic of this one in the thread yet?

These are the only in period pics I have of the GGR car in its Moss livery

Posted Image

Posted Image

and this is the same car a year before, which I think has already been posted

Posted Image

other than the pics I showed previously of the car stripped down when still a thundersaloon before its resto I have yet to see any race pics of it in that guise, it never raced over here as one and I believe it was converted in Malaysia which probably explains the lack of photos

(incidentally, Oakfields had an apparently ex-Hansen RS500 for sale recently, as mentioned on the Thundersaloon thread)

They did have that one (which looked very battered) for 30k and the ex Alec Poon Malaysia car for 20k needing a full rebuild, but both have dropped off their website. Apparently the Brooklyn car they have is 85K !! which seems a lot when they sold the egmo car I showed pictures of above for 75k last year, which build wise was of a far higher spec.

Kevan we make a good tag team with these pics, but I am starting to run out of the lesser seen ones, so lets hope a few more come out of the woodwork, although we have done well to get to 7 pages.

The blue RS500 behind Miroslav Šefr († 1993) is the one of Swede Lars (aka Lasse) Eriksson. Šefr’s Sierra was an RS Cosworth, no RS500.

László "Lazzi" Maruzsi is a funny bloke. In those days he was also a stuntman and held the World record jumping a Lada over lined up Ladas. ;)

I think all pics were taken in 1992.

Tony, the quality is fine (particularly compared to my own efforts the same day, which I haven't dared post!)- and they show a great selection of 1989's Cosworth runners. Think this is the race supporting the Group C sportscar race?- I was out on the GP loop, but only seem to have a few pics from the touring car race. I'd moved to Kent a couple of months before, so this was the first time I'd seen touring cars at Brands

Top pic (front to rear):
#1- Andy Rouse; #21- Robb Gravett; #19 Dave Brodie; #6 Lawrence Bristow; the blue car half out-of-shot on the right must be the other Labatt's car of Tim Harvey; #20 Mike Smith (as I remember, these two had a coming-together out on the GP loop, but the race was stopped and re-started after one of the M3s went off, possibly at Paddock? on the next lap); #5- Sean Walker; #16 unmistakably Dave Pinkney and the Duckhams car of Karl Jones right at the back of the pic

Second pic
#7 Harvey; 5- Walker; #20, Smith; #16- Pinkney; #28- Jones; #10- Guy Edwards; #4- Graham Goode's Listerine car; #2- Jerry Mahony; (#32, James Weaver's M3) and #3 Mike Newman in the second Listerine car. The white Sierra just sneaking into shot in the top LH corner of the pic could be Mike O'Brien from the 'Swan National' logo on the front spoiler?

Glad you like them. I didn't get much opportunity to take photographs when I was mechanic'ing for Tom's, but on this occasion the 'mangement' decided they needed some pics of the Toyota, further back in the field, so I was given leave to lug my camera bag round to Paddock Hill Bend.

I trawled through my computer and found some more. Three are from recent historic meetings, three from The Day.

1989 again, Oulton Park. I think the lack of sharpness must be due to mild camera shake, brought on by the effort of getting the car on the grid, complete with driver, then nipping up the grid to take the shot...
Lovely weather, but we suffered a broken LF drive peg, and as a consequence left a really neat black line for about four hundred yards, terminating in the pit lane.

Looking at the trees and the 1989 date, this must have been the opening round of the 1989 BTCC - March 24 1989 it was then. Andy Rouse on pole but destined to retirement, leaving it to Robb Gravett, or what?.

This would be the July 25 1987 race, round 7 of 12 of the BTCC. Rouse would only finish 3rd, tyres being the issue I believe, Hall in 4th and Goode 15th, reason unknown.

Anyone looking to buy one of these superb racing cars, should have a look at the link below, the 13th car down (after the Lotus Cortina) is the Sierra Cosworth RS500 driven by Chris Hodgetts in the 1989 BTCC.

Les Dalton.

Can anyone remember the race and the car where the prop broke catapulting the car into the air. Remember watching it on the telly at the time - Mr Walker went crazy :drunk:

I must admitt I had a bit of a crush on the Eggenberger/Texaco RS500's - here seen in the assembly area above the non-F1 pit lane, Spa, 1987 (it says here)

That's a great selection Tony- As you say, Spa 1987, including a couple of the lesser-known cars.

From the top, of course, the Eggenberger pair- #7 Klaus Kudwig/Klaus Niedzwiedz/Thierry Boutsen, and #6 Steve Soper/Pierre Dieudonne/Philippe Streiff

Next up, the #4 Wolf Racing car- with Barclay sponsorship for Spa- of Joachim Winkelhock/Didier Artzxet/Manfred Burkard. Behind it, Wolf's second car is just sneaking into the pic - #11 Jari Nurminen/Andre Malherbe/Jean-Denis Deletraz. These two appear again in the 'bit of a traffic jam at La Source' pics in your next post

Next up is #17- Andy Rouse's occasionally-seen second WTCC car, here in 'Batibouw' colours for Alain Semoulin/Jesus Pareja/Thierry Tassin- the highest-placed Cosworth at the end, in 6th (and I think the only one to make the chequered flag). I think this is also the 'ANZ'-sponsored car that Rouse and Tassin shared with Allan Moffatt at Bathurst later that season, and now in Australia as seen in Bruce's pics a few posts back. Quite a well-travelled car...

#28 & #32 are the Euromotorsport Luxembourg pair. #28 Romain Feitler/Bernard Santal/Gaston Rahier and #32 Romain Wolff//Guy Neve/Jean-Paul Libert

'Getting dark', we have the Ludwig/Niedzwiedz/Boutsen Eggenberger car again and Andy Rouse/Win Percy/Thierry Tassin in Rouse's red 'Tele Moustique' car, and finally, 'getting darker' another shot of Soper/Dieudonne/Streiff

I'm not sure that these next (very) few pics show much of RS500's, as I was more interested in trying to record an impression of the circuit - but some cars got in the way! Bathurst 1990.

Also Brands, August '88, my own standard Cossie, by a weird coincidence parked next to a white VW Transporter, a later version of which I now drive!

Remember that one, early 90's you picked me up at the train station and we drove to your house. To me (a Volvo 142 owner at the time) that was a kick and it really felt like a racecar!!

I would love to see some personal photos and memories of spectators and those involved with the Sierra Cosworth RS500s that raced in the various championships around the world during the 80s early 90s

Really look forward to some great replies :)

edited to say - most of the pics I have are mainly from websites I have come across over the years, and dont tend to be credited to anyone. If the person who actually took the pic would like some credit for any I show please let me know, or if preferred I will remove at request.

It must have just been the later cars that he didn't use the headlights. A friend of mine was building a Sierra in the early 90s. He bought a nose panel from Dick Johnson and it was one piece with no holes for the headlights. Dick didn't have any headlights or headlight buckets to sell because he said that he didn't run them. My mate ended up getting the headlights from Brock.

Hi, McTshirt and all,

The number 17 sierra in your photo in 1988 is the number 18 car from 1987 driven by Gregg Hansford, it is DJR2 and was the LHD car, it was not raced in 1988 but was a promo car, it was later converted to RHD and sold to Trackstar and driven by Mike Smith.

Romain the owner has a lot of nice original group A parts

The RS500 he has was for sale on ebay a few weeks ago for 30k - ex Jolly club I believe, not the best spec, more a clubmans type version, but with prices rocketing and it having original provenance its probably now off to Australia to race

I remember that FMC were selling new Cosworth shells for £3,500, I think, with or without sunroof aperture, and although interested I let it lie, only to see, a fairly short time later, they were down to £500 each! Now I was interested, but didn't have any storage space...

here you go Tony, Ford made a rebatch in 1989 and the advert is from Autosport in August of that year

They did drop to £500 and have steadily risen over the years, until recently you could still find a nice dry stored one for circa £1500 on ebay but they have dried up as people have stashed them away, now 3k plus when they do turn up. I have owned a few of these new shells both road and motorsport spec, and still have one tucked away

Posted Image

the 1989 spec shells have a few subtle differences to the 1986 spec originals as some Mk2 sierra components (introduced in 1987) had to be used as the Mk1 dies had been scrapped

This is probably the only pic I can claim actual credit for so far on this thread, I tore the page out of my autosport copy in 1989 and vowed to build a cosworth from scratch using one of these new shells and in 2001 I did just that and had it registered as a brand new cosworth, I believe its still the newest registered version of the 3dr all these years later

Even bought a fancy plate for it

The owner of the mystery car has sent me an email

Its originally the Karl Jones/ Duckhams/ Asquith Motorsport car, and apart from the change of colour its still as it last raced in the BTCC, he still has the original BBS wheels tucked away  I think it also ran on speedlines.

He has sent me a few more pics, I have asked if its ok to show them on this thread, so will post them up if he says ok.

Merry Christmas
