The GuardsTrophy GT and Sports Racing Championship is a re-work of the former Classic Sports Car Championship. It is contested by GT and sports-racing cars built before 1966 and with an international sporting pedigree from period. An invitation class for pre '69 sports-racing, GTand sports-prototypes is also included.

Thanks , Tony. Presumably that means built before Dec31 1965. Again, I assume that the intl pedigree indicates that it raced in, not at, an Intl status race. Please clarify class engine sizes and also details of pre-69 invitation class. Apologies for being a pain.

The rain stayed off and a fine gathering of man and machine greeted a fine TNF turn out. Good to meet up with Giraffe as usual and to meet John Ginger and ffr for the first time  Here's a quick taster with more to follow.

When I was snapping it, I was assuming it was a T292. But, when I looked at the photos I saw that it had V8 injection trumpets. So, I think it's a T282 or updated T280. No doubt there are TNFers who know the car.

Quite wonderful pics Andy! You have most certainly not lost your touch!

The Lola is owned by Leo Voyazides & chassis plate says T280 HU5. When Leo was sold the car Chris Fox told him it was the Jean-Louis Lafosse car, which had been retained after it's Kyalami accident then eventually repaired and the rather sad result then found its way to him (Chris). It was restored to close to it's original spec & repainted last winter and the red "Fillipinetti" accents were added as people kept asking if it was a Matra!

Can anybody tell me anything about the Lotus 24 pictured above in UDT-Laystall colours? Giraffe says that it is number 944 but that car always had a BRM engine and was destroyed by Innes Ireland at Monaco in 1964. How much was salvaged from the wreck and when did it get a Climax engine? The original 944 was driven by Jim Hall and TRevor Taylor as well as Ireland and Gregory and it won races so quite an important car.

IIRC the Lotus 24 has been owned for several years now by Roy Walzer, run by Eclipse Motorsport and driven by Phil Keen at Mallory on Wednesday, and elsewhere.. I was told that it has been several Goodwood Revivals and had some very good results there. Either frp/Andy or John Ginger seemed to know one of the Eclipse guys (a South African?) so maybe they can find out more about the car?
(I can confirm the chassis plate read #944).

Yes, Tony, I used to know the Eclipse guys, but Wednesday was my first contact with them for seven years. I don't think they would be able to help much, though: they're just 'freelancing' with the car and are not really 'historic' types. In fact, when I asked Steve about the car, he admitted not having a clue but had been told by someone that it was the '61 USGP winner. I think it was because I told him that wasn't possible if it was a 24, and what the colour suggested, that he tried to help by texting someone who confirmed it was a UDT-Laystall car. But, as we know, 944 originally had BRM power and, as Cyril's photo shows, this car has a Climax. Steve also said the car is now owned by Mike McInerney (at least, I think that's what he said).

The car appears to have done the Monaco Historic, as well as Goodwood, so entry lists / results from those events should shed more light.

Andy

(I bet there are several dozen people reading this who know all the history of this car and are aghast at my ignorance!)

Speaking to Kent at Oulton Park today, it is chassis #001. You could not find the number at Le Mans Wouter, as it is embedded in a microchip in the tub!

Are you sure, Cyril? The car on top is Andrew Tart's Bond FJ, right enough, but car 22 looks like the Lotus 18/21.

Probably my ex Tony Shelly 18/21 (I can't access the photograph for some reason) which Andrew was testing after a misfire at the Silverstone Classic, which caused my retirement from the HGPCA race, had been hopefully sorted. he reports that it's OK now, which is a relief.
