Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel that Mercedes is 2-5 tenths slower than Sauber in quali trim, not to mention faster cars.
OK, I was wrong if 21.3 is genuine time .

No, that was in his link, because he linked to the GPUpdate gallery, and the balloon was the first image in the gallery (at that time). There is a picture of a large red balloon (as on the live commentary) accompanying that Scarbs update about the new brake ducts.
I'm assuming it's a mild political statement of some kind..

It is not exactly true. Yesterday LRGP said that they evaluate soft, medium and hard tyres. So they could have supersoft today, who knows. But, soft or SS lap time is still very good.Supersoft isn't available, only soft and hard

James Key:
"He [Perez] did a good and controlled set of laps, setting a time of 1:22.042 minutes on soft tyres and 1:21.761 on the super soft compound."
And from Renault:
"For the afternoon with Nick, we concentrated on set-up work and ran the medium and soft tyres."

If he rear wing is different in the pics so far then it is subtle and not visible on brief inspection (by me anyway ;) )

Do you have a source? Btw the Pirelli tyres doesn't rubber the track at all. Difference should be not that big to yesterday.

AUTOSPORT's deputy F1 editor @m_glendenning replies: "The boring answer is that it's still too early to really say. The slightly less boring answer is that it appears that the upgrades have delivered a very real step forward, but I suspect it would be a bit optimistic to suggest that they've done enough to put the team wheel-to-wheel with Red Bull and Ferrari in Australia.
"What the developments have done is move the team forward among that gaggle of cars fighting it out to be best of the rest in terms of outright performance at the opening races. So if you're a Mercedes fan then you can probably feel confident that the team is in better shape than it looked at the last test, but the number of question marks everywhere else along pitlane makes it hard to pick who exactly they might have leapfrogged.
"And how is Michael looking these days? Fit, slightly tanned, and pretty happy, judging from his press briefing a couple of days ago. I asked Norbert Haug what sort of shape he thought he was in, and his opinion was that Schumacher is ready to go."

The one Rosberg used on Wednesday had curved side holes, MS's has horizontal holes. The were experimenting with both at the previous Barcelona test.If he rear wing is different in the pics so far then it is subtle and not visible on brief inspection (by me anyway ;) )

Button said there was about a half a second to be found from the hards to medium, a further half second to soft, and then a second going from the softs to the supersofts. Then Vettel mentioned yesterday that there's about 8-9 seconds difference in laptimes between the car + tyres' extremes of performance. Considering early race pace seems to be in the 1:30s and 1:31s for both Red Bull and Ferrari, I doubt even these guys could dip into the low 1:20s and go a full second quicker than that Merc time.

You're not really breaking the party, it's a great showing from Mercedes in the form of improvement from the past test days. Even if they're running supersofts.

Look at the times and Button's comments from a while ago: if his theory about the time gains between compounds is accurate, the 21.2 was probably on the softs and the 21.7 on the medium compound as there's a perfect half second between them.
