Hello,
the son of the late Australian sidecar champion Bob Mitchell is looking for photos.
In an email Mark wrote to me:

Also we are still making good progress on the new website for Dad, and I was
wondering last week if you know where I could search for some photos of Dad
when he placed third in the Dutch and Belgian GPs in 1955 and 1956. I have
no photos at all of him receiving a trophy on the winners rostrum with Fritz
Hillebrand and Willy Noll. I wonder if the photos do exist, or is it because
they didn't take photos of the winners rostrum in 55 and 56, not like
nowadays? What do you think?

Can somebody help ? I guess the photos would be a nice Christmas present for Mark. Thanks in advance.

I have these from Bob's 4th place ride in the 1956 Sidecar TT.

Thanks Bill....these are great photos. I have several others of the IOM but sadly none of the winners rostrum at the Dutch and Belgian GPs in 1956. Plus none of races at Noris Ring and Spa in 1956.

Regards

Mark Mitchell

Hi Mark,

Unfortunately the Dutch TT didn't have a "first three" rostrum, only the winner/s, plus (sometimes) the best Dutch finisher. I've a pic of the 55 Assen presentation and there is only the winning pair of Faust/Remmert. I'll post it when I have time to scan it.

Thanks Graham......another friend of mine pointed this out a few days ago , it appears they must have started doing it in '58 or '59. In Dad's photo collection he has some shots of his mates Keith Campbell and Keith Bryen in a 'winners circle' ( of three) at various meetings - all after '56 though. Anyway it would still be nice to have some racing photos of these particular events - the abscence of anything from Spa is a mystery.

Hello Mark and Bob,
I remember Bob at the Island. Have you tried the Drents Archief which covers the Dutch TT. There are over a 1,000 photos of the Dutch, though I could not find Bob there are many s/c shots of his opponents, Try-

www.drentsarchief.org/ - Cached - Similar, select Google Translate as its in Dutch, then Fotos (Photos) then to TT Assen.
Its worth a try, Bob may be there.
Thanks for the memories Bob,
Roy

Hi Mark,

Found a couple of photos of the 56 Belgian GP. One shows Bob rounding the La Source hairpin and the other is the rostrum, which as with the Dutch TT unfortunately only has the winning pair of Noll/Conn.

Got some other photos that I'm sure I come across.

Hi Graham....sorry it has taken me so long to reply , I have just looged in and noticed the your last post regarding the picture of Dad at the La Source hairpin. Its a shot I have not seen before and would be great to have it in the book I am writing. Do you have the original copy suitable for scanning and printing?
