MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner has warned he will have little interest in staying in the championship if the regulations are steered more towards production-based machinery.
Someone should tell him Superbikes have been producing better racing than MotoGP in recent years.

Yamaha's Ben Spies said he was also concerned about the prospects of a CRT-based future for the championship, though he acknowledged that the global financial system might force radical change.
"The way the economy's going, I hope I have a job in 2013, so I'm not worried about a CRT bike right now, that's for sure," he said. "But I'm not the biggest fan of it."
perhaps not

Thank god people like him still tell it like it is.Someone should just tell him to shut up.
The same goes for Formula one, these series shouldn't be about production based products, it should be about making the best of the best and go faster and faster and yes that costs money but it's always has been this way. Standard ecu standard this standard that just isn't the best of the best anymore simple as that.
A budget cap isn't a problem in my eyes but they should allow the teams to be free in creating anything as long as they don't override the budget, so more freedom for different engine's, more cylinders etc etc etc.

Which quotes in particular do you consider "bratty"?Nothing. It'd just be nice to hear Stoner say something non-bratty for a change.
Wasn't he going to quit when the series went to a spec tire?
What (in your learned opinion) should he have said and in what manner?
Were you there during the interview, or are you deriving your opinion from just the quotes in Matt Beer's article?

At least Spies is clever enough to realise the nirvana of a pure prototype class might not be realistic economically.

Posted 07 November 2011 - 23:20
My opinion is based on his body of work. He rarely says anything thoughtful.
Motorbike riders are not philosophy majors.
With this season putting the last few years into perspective, Stoner as the lead rider has every right to voice his opinion on the future of the series, even if may not be universally welcomed.
#7168
Posted 07 November 2011 - 23:33
So nothing specific, you're just voicing a long-held opinion that bears no real relationship to the actual comments? My opinion is based on his body of work. He rarely says anything thoughtful.
At least Spies is clever enough to realise the nirvana of a pure prototype class might not be realistic economically.
Thank you.

But I'm not going to blame this comment on Matt Beer, as if he could somehow mistranslate Australian. Stoner has a history of being better at opening the throttle than opening his mouth.

Do you really believe the factories will stay in MotoGP if it gets turned into a spec series? No way... They'll either quit racing or start some new prototype series. And Stoner made it clear, that he'd quit too or join another series if that came true. Fair statement if you ask me. And Ben Spies seems to be of the same attitude.
#7171
Posted 08 November 2011 - 00:13
The key with Spies is he's got more than one thought rattling around in his head so could understand things like CRT are neccessary evils. Stoner's position is always as convincing as "it's stupid, I hate it".

He'll have to quit because if they don't do something to control costs there won't be any bikes for him to ride anyway.

Are factories crucial?
Not at all. F1 has been better off with a spec ECU, rev limit and fewer factories. I'd love to see the same thing happen to MotoGP.

This is Ducati’s radical new twin spar aluminium frame that Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will test on the GP12 Desmosedici MotoGP bike over the next two days in Valencia.
The Bologna factory has introduced a conventional frame to try and improve front-end feeling after a disastrous final 800cc campaign saw Rossi and Hayden score just one podium finish each in 2011.
MCN revealed that Ducati was working on a conventional twin spar aluminium frame at the Misano race in early September when CAD drawings of the chassis were spotted.
During a press briefing yesterday (Monday), Ducati technical guru Filippo Preziosi said: "The bike is not the bike we will use for the first race. The bike you will see tomorrow is an experimental bike, a real prototype to give to our designers the targets to design the bike for the future. We don’t expect that at the test we will have a step in performance because the bike is more or less the same as the current bike but with a different technology. But this is really important for us to grow up our knowledge of this technology. We strongly believe we are moving in the right direction but our competitors have an advantage and it is not easy to say if and when we will join them but for sure we will give all our energy to try."

Nothing has been said about 2012 yet, but at this test he is riding the same bike Elias raced, the 800 RC212VIs Bradl racing a LCR factory Honda ?

Lucio Cecchinello – LCR Team Manager: “In a couple of days, together with our sponsors and Honda, we will take our final decision about the rider who will line up with us in 2012. In the mean time we have welcomed the HRC request to give our structure and our RC212V bikes to the new Moto2 World Champion Stefan Bradl and we hope he will enjoy the MotoGP Experience."

As a german I hope Bradl does well today. It´s really stupid right now.
We basically have one major paper(Bild) and right now the sport headlines are: Joe frazier, Poker, Schumi, Gomez and Klose, Schalke and Riding - a horse died. Not one word about Bradl since sunday. So stupid. I obv don´t even need to mention the way they go crazy about Vettel. Or lets talk about Marco. They had a major headline on the front page, showing pictures, videos and the usuall media bullshit.
So yeah, I hope he attracts some new sponros and viessmann is fine with that. The rumors about LCR are real I believe. Dorna has a huge interest in getting a German into MotoGP. Fingers crossed ...

I really liked in 2006 when Kenny Roberts went to the scrap yard with his hammer and made a competitive Honda powered bike. Is that feasible with some sort of leased-engines requirement, or was that a specific set of circumstances. Ie a Honda 990 being an awesome engine, Team KR's experience building prototypes(maybe smaller teams couldn't compete with the factory resources), etc.
One problem that hasn't really been talked about is that MotoGP is still coming down off the nicotine high. In some respects they over-inflated as much as CART did.

Just spoke to Hector Barbera. He said new aluminium chassis is a huge improvement, can feel the front end on corner entry (cont).
Ducati feels more like his old Aprilia 250, he said. You can feel the connection between the front and the rear. Engine is also much sweeter
Gearchange is also much faster. Much better feeling all round.
