Dear TNF members,

I am after your help.

I am working on a book about Rudolf Caracciola and have attracted the potential interest of a publisher. However, the realisation of the book depends heavily on the availability of suitable photographs. I am aware of the many commercial libraries that have Caracciola photos but unfortunately I do not have a large budget to purchase the rights to all the photos that I would ideally like. The Daimler-Benz Archives and several other sources have been very helpful but I still need many more photos. In particular I am searching for photographs from the early part of Caracciola’s career ie, 1922 to 1933.

I do believe that there are many photos out there somewhere and possibly people do not realise what they have hidden away. So I would be grateful for anyone’s help in locating and providing any Caracciola photos. I would be happy to hear from anyone who has one photo to a collection of photos. It all helps!

I would naturally credit all sources in any published work.

Please feel free to add to this thread or send me a private message or email. Your responses would be appreciated.

I have spent too many years on this project and I am determined to see it through to publication and hopefully add to the legacy of a great racing driver. If you feel you can help please get in touch.

Thanks very much.

Simon.

Caracciola came over to run Indy in 1946 and was severely injured. He had become friends with the Speedway's owner Tony Hulman. in fact, Rudy recovered at Hulman's farm estate in Terre Haute, IN. They stayed close friends after Rudy healed and when Caracciola died, his estate donated ALL of his racing trophies. They are the first exhibit on the left in a glass case when you enter into the Speedway Museum.

You may want to contact the Indianapollis Motor Speedway Museum to see if Caracciola's photo's were included in estate's gift. Ron McQueeney is the head of the Photography department of the Speedway and Museum and he is sure to have some pix of Rudi at Indy at least.
