Didn't McLaren loose any important people? I wouldn't say that. Fry, Ioannis Veloudis, , Giacomo Tortora, Lawrence Hodge, , Rupad Derek, , Jonathon Heal, Neil Martin. They all were the head of their own department.

And that is why you can expect that Ferrari will look like McLaren. Hm should Fia investigate Ferrari if that happens?

Yes how dare McLaren not be formed at the same time as Ferrari!! :drunk:
I do hate these silly statements as they really do mean sweet FA.

You make it sound as if Whitmarsh has a choice in the matter? I would think that any hold up is from Lewis' end.

Journos confused it, that talk was about the Formula 1 race car. The next road car has no announced public name yet.

And that's a 'fan art' image, a 12C photoshopped with the features of the F1.

Surely though, they can match the RB tight wrapped sidepods and the moose pods didn't really give them much so why keep going down that route when you can match whatever RB do with the sidepods and close the gap? Plus the weight is lower and closer to the centre of the car. I thought that the moose pods would give them a lot of development room but it didn't really materialise in 2011.

IMO McLaren never really saw the full benefits of the u-pods because of the compromises in cooling and other packaging in order to facilitate the octozorst. Everything was bulkier and higher than it would have been if the car had been designed with a conventional blown system from the outset.

I wonder if they can blow the beam wing by having the exhaust exit at the bottom of the U?

Yep. The front looks like a mix of the McLaren F1 & the MP4-12C. The centre section looks like the McLaren F1 and the rear from that angle reminds me of the Lamborghini Gallardo.

Just to state things generically:

P11 = code name for MP4-12C
P12 = code name for model above the 12C
P13 = code name for model below the 12C

From sounds of things, the convertible version of the 12C should be announced this year (and maybe very soon), the P12 either late this year or early next year with shipping a year later, and the P13 a 12-18 months after that (probably wont ship until 2014).

To drag things a bit more on-topic: it would be interesting to see if McLaren tie up the launch of the MP4-27 and the convertible version of the 12C. I bet they would be tempted but the types of journalists who report on F1 aren't necessarily the same as those who report on road cars so might fail a bit. Maybe they'll do a "sneak preview" with no official figures...

That was about the spider/convertible 12C. That's pretty much ready to be revealed soon, but regarding the P12, the hypercar, we'll get only the introduction/media reveal this year at best, what we got in 2010 with the 12C.

Honestly I don't know who he is, I saw the picture posted from someone that I do know. The picture is somewhat in line with some of the "jet fighter" rumors about the 27.

uhh, double intake, weird winglets under the DRS flap, lame looking wide upper intake... I don't think that's gonna happen.

Lots of radical stuff in that render. Interesting. The removal of the air intake above the driver's head is something I haven't seen rumoured. The wings and close intake have been discussed alot.

actually given all the tiny snippets of information, teasers and rumors we have... I'm expecting something like this.

If we are not gonna have the upods but our sidepods are supposedly still radical, Id think they'd look something like this.

Not sure about the upper air intakes though...

I just hope they make the rear end super tight and ultimately the car is a WDC,WCC challenger regardless of what they come up with.

Can't wait

Has anybody given thought to the idea that Ferrari's winglets were the main cause of failing the crash tests? With the recent employ of a truck load of ex-McLaren engineers, maybe they learned of the idea and they hurriedly implemented it, hence the test failure.

It's a bit tin-foil-hat, isn't it?

It kinds of got me to thinking how knowledge transfer is a hard thing to combat in these sort of circumstances. A Non-Disclosure-Agreement could be the answer, one that's separate from an employment contract and has a set date of expiration. But that doesn't really cover learned techniques or "know how". You could develop the idea from that know-how alone.

Then I got to thinking about Samsung and Apple's patent spats of late. It hit me that a design patent could be workable...change the car colour to Vodafone red/orange, make sure the design patent covers the general look of the winglets, register it and then take Ferrari to court. Initially McLaren could ask for a hearing to have all Ferrari's chassis impounded based on Ferrari copying McLaren's unique "look". If the hearing went in favour of Mclaren, Ferrari would be unable to race until they manufacture new chassis without the winglets or have the ban overturned.

It's a sneaky and downright devious, not mention a real barsteward way to go about it. And there's probably lots of things that would stop the ploy from working, but it's a nice daydream ;)

erm, the upper air take/roll-over hoop isn't that illegal? I thought the blade rollovers like the 2010 Merc was banned?

Looks interesting though¬

Im sure i read on here that teams can patent stuff, but all F1 teams have the right to be able to use that technology freely. So it protects the patent from a business viewpoint, without someone coming up with something and refusing to let any other team replicate it. It wouldnt be in the interest of the sport, so **apparently** its an FIA rule.

Well, they certainly werent handed over by Ferrari to McLaren, so maybe stolen wasnt the right term but then:
Ferrari werent in such a giving mood when one of your employees passed on confidential information so that a select couple of engineers, Alonso & De La Rosa could have a shuffle through them without your permission
had less punch ;)

There are still some McLaren engineers that it would sign, including Tim Goss and Neil Oatley, especially the latter;)

This guy is really getting on my nerves, as if Tim Goss would leave McLaren when he has just been promoted to chief designer of EVERY car not just alternate cars. Oatley will never leave.

I was happy that McLaren and specially this guy weren’t doing the same thing they used to do previous years and kept quiet and just were doing their jobs; but old habits reappear…

Don't see anything wrong with what he is saying. There is no outlandish claim there, just a statement of ambition, and one they are perfectly capable of achieving.
