That's a shadow making it look as though the outer section is raised.Did anyone else not notice the raise 'shoulder' on the out edge of the sidepode in that first viewable photo? (not the link photo) its like a piece has been bolted straight on, looks rather messy but it has a purpose.

They are nothing like the Saubers, the Saubers are about 1/100th of the size. Those sidepod winglets were taken from the Sauber... Let's not act like its something amazing that will add tons of downforce.

Back in 2010, I did have a little minor whinge at what seemed to be a lack of variability in the design of McLaren's rear wings. It seemed that only a few specific wing designs were brought to races based on sim data. While this was often fine, I think there were perhaps occasions where the idea solution (wing angle/profile) on a given weekend may have fallen between what was brought to a race meeting, leaving the team with a less than optimised aerodynamic configuration.
I really do like what they have done with this rear wing update. I think this gives the team far more scope to adjust the car.

Most pointless post ever!...Who and where was it argued that Hamilton may or may not need Mclarens help to finish in front of Button
All this team orders talk????
I can imagine enemy teams sniggering at us while we refuse to implement team orders until Button is mathematically out of the title race.
For all of those who wish McLaren would initiate teams orders before it is mathematically impossible for one driver to win the WDC, I suggest they support another team.
Is not sporting, it's not British, it's not McLaren.
I think the use of "mathematical" chance is an excuse some are using not to let their driver give in to team orders should the case arise..
I think its a wise thing to back one driver, if your other driver is worth piece of toilet paper. On the other hand, I think Mclaren should be subtle. They neednt blow Button's confidence on his face by telling him:
"Listen, you play second fiddle now to Lewis. So make sure you dont qualify ahead of him or race him. Understood ?"
I am sure Mclaren can slow down a driver if they want to, they are the ones who build cars. And obviously, to the outside world it will look all hunky dory. Just manage Button, and make sure he is right on Lewis' tail. Button should push Lewis, but not outrace him. This way, you keep Button happy, the team, and the outside world happy. And you score good points in constructors.
Sorry for OT

How did you come to this conclusion? So the weird outer bodywork photos from yesterday were just pictures of bodywork that hadn't been fastened in place?

How did you come to this conclusion?
Lack of any mention of the strange configuration anywhere in the press, lack of any further photographs. I thought Scarbs might have commented on it.
It's exactly the same situation as the 'wing' photo back in Hungary (?).

Hmmm... I would have thought there would be more photos of them, especially when they were out on track. Maybe they will come along with a bit more time?

Yeah the lack of photos is strange, could be due to the very limited running we did in FP1. Hopefully get a better look in FP2.Hmmm... I would have thought there would be more photos of them, especially when they were out on track. Maybe they will come along with a bit more time?

I wonder where the gain comes from with these. Pure lap time, more stable rear end, tyre management, more predictable airflow, or a combination? Not that I am particularly technically minded though, just wondering whether it's a big upgrade visually with a small gain in reality.
Since they diverted resources from the DDRS to concentrate on "other things" that provided more of a performance coupled with the rumours circulating that the Lotus DDRS is worth about 0.5 on a lap, then i will suggest that this is worth 1-1.5 sec a lap based on mere appearance .
God I really have to stop sniffing these mushrooms..............everythings so greeeeeen
as long as it brings at least 0.00001 to the car....am happy!!!

Of course track conditions vary etc, but you'd have to say that the upgraded car didn't seem particularly fast in the wet.
So no evidence that McLaren have sorted out their wet track issues. Hoping for a dry quali + race.

Well judging by silverstone and germany I believe we're due to be awesome on wets and inters and terrible on slicks at the next weekend in mixed conditions...!
More seriously, very difficult to know out form in the wet after those two races.

Yep the one I'm thinking of had Hammy trailing what looked like a sonic boom of spray and coming right at the camera. Classic piccie and I can't find it either. Might have been a still taken from video?

Hungaroring don´t such cornes, and McLaren can suffer.
Maybe the hard tires and low temperature help McLaren win this race.
Let´s pray!
