...but still busy renovating!

As you see, we have decided to introduce the new look to our site today - as we didn't want to continue confronting you with an index page that is several months old by now! However, we're still busy renovating. Most of the work entails cutting up the current game results pages into separate pages, each with refreshed links, the pre-July 2000 Why content in separate paragraphs for better reading, links to related articles and, finally, updates to the content itself, for example not referring to "this year" etc., and where possible, adding information on events that occurred past the original publication date. The new subindex pages Who?, What?, Where?, When?, Why? and How? will reflect the new content.

We expect the new content to be online sometime during the coming month. To give you an idea of where we are: we still need to do work on the October '99, November '99, Millennium and February '00 games.

We are also proud to present the work of two distinguished TNF members - Alessandro Silva and 'Uechtel' - on our pages soon.

Why did we take so long? Well, mainly our day-time jobs getting in the way in a quite forceful and unexpected way... Plus we did not imagine the amount of work that would come with cutting up all the old pages! So, yes, we're a bit behind our original schedule - we planned to have the new site online by the end of January - but the worst part is behind us now.

By the way, you can still visit the old site's content by clicking on 8W Site History and then scrolling down to the links to the old game pages. For history's sake we will keep these pages online once the new pages have been uploaded.

I also got the special Mario Andretti Cup for my rookie win in April 1999. In fact, after winning the Trintignant three times on the trot they retired the original and changed the design. You really didn't get any trophies? Wow! I guess I shouldn't have said anything....

I must admit, I miss the game more than ever! My fingers are starting to itch and it would be nice to do some detective work, write my Why? answers and see how I faired against the other 'McLaren Cup specialists'.

Playing the game was great fun, a big 'Thank You' to everyone, who made it possible!

It took us a while, and we want to thank you for your patience, but today we finally launched the new site. Feel free to look around and (hopefully) enjoy the scenery.

Do you like what you see and want to be part of it? You can.

Do you have an interesting subject from the outer reaches of motorsport history, perhaps one that was discussed here on TNF but needs the structure of a clear and concise webpage instead of its contributions being lost in the infinite archives of TNF? Do you miss a good study on your motorsport hero, favourite car or your vote for motor race of the 20th century? Or do you want to do a better job on a subject we already covered (which is also a very imaginable scenario...)? Please feel free to contact us and discuss your ideas.

Something I forgot to mention: people wanting to link to their own 'Reader's Whys' can do that by putting #LASTNAME after the page's URL. For example:

- Hans can directly link to his story on Tim Birkin by using http://8w.forix.com/...in.html#ETZRODT
- Alessandro can do the same on his article on Hunt and Hesketh by using http://8w.forix.com/hunt.html#SILVA

Michael F. will probably like the idea that he can link to his contributions by using the #FINES anchor...;)

BTW, several of these stories (especially the longer ones and those out of the ordinary) have an entry of their own in the subsite index pages, so if you're unsure about the abbreviation we used, you can always find them there by moving your cursor over the link.

Part 3 of Uechtel's series is now online and covers the smaller marques of Holbein, Polensky and EBS/Brütsch/Westenrieder.

Still to come in the near future: articles on West German specials, foreign appearances & guest drives and, of course, the East German specials.

Also we will be working to get a first preview publication from Alessandro's forthcoming book "Back on Track - Racing in the 40s" online within the coming weeks. The chapter we will publish will commemorate the weeks after April 16, 1946 when international motorsport came back on track with the Nice GP.

New stuff on the site: we are very pleased and proud to give you a sneak preview of Alessandro's book Back on Track on racing in the 40s. Chapter 1 is about the weeks of April 16-30, covering the Nice GP on April 22 as the first real international meeting after the war. Conveniently, we have managed to publish the story on... April 16!

Also, apologies are in order for my complete negligence of TNF for the past weeks. It looks like I'm missing out on a huge number of very interesting threads. My compliments on all the guys participating - the quality is amazing. Oh well, there's only so much time in one week...

BTW, Uechtel's part 4 of his German F2 series is coming soon. Parts 4 to 6 are already in store but still need to be HTML'ised, and the EMW/DAMW finale will be sensational if I'm to go by the remarkable progress on the DAMW thread. I'm sure Michael Müller will get a big thank you

I've had the occasion to visit *W a couple of times now and I must say that is very well laid out, easy to navigate and the data and history content is excellent.

Hmm ... an interesting coincidence: Szisz lived in retirement in Auffargis. Another resident of Auffargis was Robert Benoist and it was at his Auffargis home that "W. The certificate of baptism was published in a Hungarian magazine. The original copy is owned by two motor racing enthusiasts, who built up a 'museum', although is not open to public.

My original name is Suranyi Geza (or to be precise: Surányi Géza), but I use Geza Sury here for this is easier to write and pronounce for foreigners. Many foreiners told me they had thought Geza is a girl's name, but it is not. The father of the first Hungarian king (Istvan) was called Geza, hence my name.
