Yeah, we got both vans and 2 door wagons. Were not popular sellers. The Fastback and sedans were though, quite good little cars particularly after Holdens previous offerings of rebadged Viva with Torana badges. They were bloody awful cars. The six cylinder range was a better car though still a narrow gutted hard riding thing. That's because the Gemeni car in the centre of the pic is an Opel Kadett C, depending on where you lived options included :-
4 dr saloon, 2 dr fast back and 2 door estate,
2 dr hatchack, I don't recall ever seeing one except in Vauxhall Drop nose Chevette guise.
and 2 dr saloon.
Which covered most of the bases in that particular market segment
I thought there were Van and Pick Up variants of the Kadett C too, but if there are they are conspicuous by there absence on Google

I saw a Viva moving under it's own power the other day in fact it moved so quickly I did not have time to take a pic !
Now back to the transporters :-)

As I have mentioned on the Lister Bristol thread, my Rowdy buddy Steve Arnaudin of Brevard NC recently kindly sent me some photo's his Dad took in the late 1950's to early 1960's.
The scan of the carousel box identifies this photo as being taken at Thompson CT in 1958. I looked at RacingSportsCars.com which lists a meeting on 1st September 1958 but there are no details for a #43 or even a Maserati 150s.
EF Spicer is listed as having raced a #43 150s at Lime Rock on April 27th 1958 I wonder if this might be the same car ?
David Birchall has kindly recommended I get in touch with John Coelho at coldplugs.com which I will, meantime if any one has any ideas as to who raced this 150S, or knows anything else about the car I'd like to pass the information back to Steve.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Carl Haas's Racing Transporters in the day
This was 1968 before tractor trailers and $1,000,000 Motorhomes. They got the job done. This is how Chuck Parsons and Skip Scott's Lola T-70's arrived in the day.

The DB5 was a gold DB6 and the trailer was a 4 wheel Don Parker rig. It was used regularly to take BRM 216/5 from Bernard White's home in Walkington, East Yorkshire down to Bourne. Rollo, Bernard's mechanic and I were taking the BRM engine less all ancilliuaries down to Bourne in the Aston. We had a puncture somewhere in Lincolnshire and emptied the contents, including the BRM engine, on to the grass verge to get at our tools. A farmer passed by on his tractor , stopped and said he had never seen anyone take out an engine on the road side!
Innes 'volunteered' to drive the Aston, trailer and GT40 from Zeltweg back to UK, Bernard, David Hobbs and I had flown out to Linz in a BEA Vanguard - an extra driver was needed for the transporter with BRM (it had been at Monza the previous week) and 250LM (driven by David at Zeltweg) - I was the junior and drew the short straw.
No photo I'm afraid, both the GT40 and DB5 belonged to Bernard White and that Zeltweg outing in 1966 must have been a one off.
Now is anyone here old enough to remember the "magnificent ex-Royal Blue Coach which has been converted to carry three cars", I'm quoting "Sports Car and Lotus Owner" from 1958. This transported cars which were maintained on behalf of their owners by Innes Ireland Limited. Seemingly it was once "a common sight at race meetings in this country."
Photo anyone?

For those who may have missed this in the Chuck Parson's thread two years ago. Thanks Jerry.

At one Indy 500 in the 60's seventeen of the 33 starters were in Gerhardt Indy cars. For years the entire field started their cars with the electric gear drive starter of his design. The Gerhardt family was still building and running winning midgets when Fred Gerhardt was in his 80's. A remarkable man."

I posted this over on the Cadillac Owners Forum where 77CDV identified the Caddy as a 1979 Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance.
An eagle eyed jayoldschool noticed the tow hitch on the back, does any one recognise whose Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance that is and does it have any connection to either the P4 #0900, the 250 LM or the T70 that can be seen in the top photo ?
Thanking you in anticipation of your responses.

"Old cars" brand 1/43 scale of the Fiat.
And the other Ferrari transporter modelled by the same company, side doors, folding steps, workbench with vice, and back barndoors with working carlift in old style.
Takes correct 1/43 race car models.

Simtek had a Foden tractor/semitrailer. It was shown b/w in the first pages of an Autosport issue when someone forgot to hadbrake the Foden and it took to a ditch , not much damage though , but poor PR ! Anyone seen this ?
Bjorn, I have trannies of the tractor unit when in later service with Glendinning's of Ashburton. I think they still have it. By then it's role was a more mundane task of hauling material out of the company's quarry coupled to a three axled tipping trailer! Not in the company's cream and red livery but a plain unmarked dark blue. It was the personal vehicle of Barry Glendinning if I remember. Great company - always brought British until there was no more British to buy!
