Please, please, please dont keep going on about Billy Fury, way back when, my big sister was his biggest fan (still is) evryday before she went to school she would play all his records, first thing she did when she got in from school was................. you've guessed it, I hated the guy, but I knew every word to every song he ever made, I guess I've mellowed with age and can easily listen to the guy nowadays, big sis still goes to lots of Billy reunions and has lots of Billy memorabillia around the house.

Incidentally, chaps, the Billy Fury gig in Llandudno was absolutely EXCELLENT.

It featured all the original band members from the 1970s version of the Fury's Tornados along with his long-time musical director.

The lad who sang was 'discovered' on 'Stars in Their Eyes', thirteen years ago and he really brought back memories of Ron....

Seeing that this event was responsible for the change of night and hence a very low turn-out, I thought I had better report on the evening.

P.S. The fish and chips in the Harbour View at Deganwy were also first class.

I shall shut up now.

Other than to ask, where are the photos - expecially the legs, Rob!!!!

Barry,

Were you - Half way to Paradise?

Or was - It's only make believe?

Sounds a good gig :)

Well, the Bird in Hand certainly wasn't a Wondrous Place last Wednesday, with its anything-you-want-to-eat-as-long-as-it's-curry menu. Except of course for one of the largest gatherings of TNF 10th Anniversary Polo Shirts in the northern hemisphere...

Posted Image

We moved on to the Willington Boot, Roger Clarkless due to a Virgin cock-up, where the demonic Lotus 16 expert was pictured sporting new hairdo plus usual Rosbergesque moustache...

Posted Image

As usual, "Wilkie" Wilkinson spoke animatedly about sprints and hill climbs, while Barry nodded off without even having to count sheep...

Posted Image

As for the legs, why would nobody believe they were mine? We all have our peccadilloes

Isn't a peccadillo a small South American mammal related to the peccary and the armadillo? If it is I certainly don't have one!

After being enthused by Barry's review a bit of Googling revealed that Billy was playing in my backyard last night at the Liverpool Empire - a splendid theatre - so off we went!

It was a pleasant meander down Memory Lane but left a few questions unanswered, some of which this interview addresses. I won't mention that he became a sheep farmer in Wales.

http://www.youtube.c...feature=related

This shows him just four days before he died aged 42. I'd forgotten how good he was.

Barry, you know I can't resist a bit of Googling when I should be doing other things...

This site reveals he had a Lotus 7 and an MG reg 100AD, so he was obviously keen on great marques! Wouldn't be a suprise if he had took to the track at some stage maybe just for fun.

One rather quirky commentator once referred to an example of the above car as a Furry Spyder! Since then the driver has adopted the spider as his mascot.

The Fisher Fury is a different take on the kit car but has its roots in the Lotus 7 genre.

Did any of you Billy Fury fans see Northwest tonight on the beeb last night?
They were discussing the proposed high speed rail line, and had Louise Ellman MP as a spokesperson, in the background was a big framed picture of Billy on the wall.

Many a true word spoken in jest............ There are only 11 owners of TNF polo shirts in the world including myself, and of those, 3 reside in the USA!

The Roll of Honour is: Condor, Steve W, Tim Murray, Pullman99, Gregor Marshall, Kingsleyrob, Lord Boor of Anglesey, Frank Sheffield, Dennis Hockenbury, Don Capps & myself.
Some, like myself are multiple owners which brings the total upto 15 plus the unique prototype with "1999-2009" rather than "10th Anniversary" beneath the badge.
In addition to these, there exists 3 fleeces, Pullman99 & myself owning 2 of them in green, with Frank S owning the unique black version in the US.
Incidentally since returning to Kuwait with his polo, nothing has been seen or heard of Don Capps.................

Hardly the marketing extravaganza I had in mind, but I'm glad I did it and think they look good, especially in a group. As a result of wearing mine, I have been recognised so far by Simon Hadfield who introduced himself to me, and also by Murray Walker at Silverstone the day after he met our group, along with many other lesser known but equally important TNFers from around the world at Silverstone, Goodwood and Cholmondeley so they do perform the function for which they were designed chaps!

Doubly so as they are excellent Polo Shirts and ideal for identifying fellow TNFers.

Been a long time since I came in here... shame really...
Anyway, on the subject of the Anglesey Circuit hosting a 'Big' meeting..
indeed the A 55 could cope with the traffic...
and there's loads of parking..
and the track is excellent... I mean really excellent ..
However I think the road from the A 55 to the track would get chocked up with a race such as the BTCC,
and the lack of Pits garages is a bit of a hindrance, spoilt lot, these mechanics.

But it seems that the time and money being spent on the place will improve it over the years and one day we will see big meetings and big crowds decend on the place, i really hope so, as the guys over there deserve it after all the hard work and how far they have come in such a short time.

Was there last weekend (only my 2nd visit in the new configuration) and the racing was superb.
We parked our truck with the awning facing the sea (and the fantastic view) but the thing nearly lifted off with the wind on Friday so we , along with the rest of the paddock turned inwards to offer some protection...

Camping wasn't much fun either, the exposed nature of the place meant that sleeping there over night in a tent put you at risk of being blown (careful now) into the sea... we were lucky that we found a wonderful B&B in Rosnieger (sp?) who took us in after we went knocking on doors. reminded me of a story about a carpenter from about 2000 years ago!!

Although im not yet sure about the corkscrew bit to be honest, its a shame we couldn't get closer to it to view from the pits, (although a young couple with a toddler did venture over and stood behind the one row of tyres at the bottom of the hill with the child bouncing up and down on the tyres... will people never learn?) would have been happier with the long track, but hey ho... it only adds to the lap times!

Anyway, twas a successful trip as we won... and a big thanks to the Men in Orange who took the time to go and wave their flags at us and keep the race going in what could have been extremely difficult conditions. with wind , rain and bright sunshine passing over us in varying waves throughout the 6 hours.

So heres to Oulton and im sure that some of you guys will be clammering to Marshall and spectate the 4hr Funcup race.. indeed i hope you will!

That's not a proper name for a Giraffe, Rob! Funny things, names; due to a misprinted envelope, I was known by my secretary of many years as "Tont", and my partner Anne has decrypted Giraffe to both "Waff" and "Waffi" when addressing me!
My personal favourite deriliction of a name in motor racing involved James Hunt. Now James was always "James", make no mistake, but when Dickie Davies addressed him as "Jimmy" to his face live on Grandstand, James went almost purple and it was all he could do to stop himself punching Dickie on the nose! :rotfl:

How about another get-together? I know it is Goodwood this up-coming week-end and it was the Bo'ness Revival the week-end just gone so we should have lots to talk about!

How is everyone fixed for Thursday 24th September?

Fine by me if the meeting is in Singapore. Probably difficult otherwise, sadly.

There are some good Singapore flight deals to be had with Emirates, if that helps, but I appreciate that this might not be practical for anyone who needs to be in Alderley Edge by 9.00 the following morning.

Anyone who needs to be in Alderley Edge for 9.00am might as well be in Singapore because nothing moves at that time due to the mass of 4x4s dropping off kids on the school run

October 1 is fine by me... so long as we meet near Suzuka. In Yokkaichi there's a bar with a picture of a Lotus 25 on the wall, if that helps. You need to fly to Nagoya, catch a train to the city's central station and then take the Kintetsu line towards Osaka Namba.

Alternatively, Plumley might be simpler.
