Every time you post new images, fispeed, I find it harder to pick a favourite, but I think the DKW just does it for me!

Is it just that I am getting a little bit old or do You agree with me that car racing has lost much of it's visual (and not just that) fascination over the last 30 years.
Today's F1-races and cars on these new clean, virtual-like tracks are more often than not boring me terribly.

Wilhelm Tell rushing over the Swiss alps in an American LaFrance and the Phantom of the rallye Monte Carlo:
I'll go for this, as my current favourite.
It looks, also a bit like a 3d model to my eyes.

I like these. It looks as though they were sketched on site.
The thumbnails didn't work as the links had text missing off the end.

There are about 675 drawing at the moment, and unfortunatelly not all of them are scanned. But most of them are.
And what is the goal? Well, I plan to draw every single European car between 1945 and 1999 (limousine, coupé, cabriolet, roadster - but no caravan/estate/break), which went into serial production (50 cars at least), and according to my calculations there are still some 1200 cars missing. Oh well. Maybe I'll finish them all in about 20 years time...

I agree Alan. I never, or very rarely did any sketching on site, mainly because I enjoyed photography, but one thing I liked was the hanging strip-lights, they gave a real sense of perspective. However, when I was up a ladder trying to get an overall shot of a car they were a real pain, I had all sorts of methods of pulling them out of the way, mostly risky. I was always ready for a 'POP', a shower of glass and a torrent of abuse...
Lovely sketches, I wonder if the artists name will be revealed.

Once again dust and light: Bjoern Waldegaard at the Rallye du Maroc 1975

The machinery ripping through pure nature is such a jarring and exciting contrast. That's missing because the natural setting has been pushed back from the track, put behind barricades and billboards and safety runoffs. It's all done for good reason in the name of safety of course, but yes, aesthetically it's not as nice as it used to be.

Had a great time at the Prescott VSCC event. Went for the whole weekend and spent nearly the whole time drawing. I think I'm finally getting to grips with the watercolour washes and the drawings are getting there too - still plenty of room for improvement though. Here's a few I'm quite pleased with. If you like them there are lots more on my flickr page...

Stefan - I just spent a very enjoyable hour or so looking at your work. As a one-time member of the Guild of Motor Artists I can appreciate the work that goes in to creating these sorts of images. Thank you for sharing here.

Thanks very much Neville - I'll certainly be following your XJ13 build - one of my favourite cars - I have a little Bob Freeman print of the engine above my desk at home. You mentioned the Guild of Motor Artists. In your experience - is it worthwhile joining groups like this or is it better to just go it alone? I only ask as I had an invite to join something similar recently. I'm not sure it's for me just yet - perhaps if I was a motor artist full time.
Hi - I did say "one-time member" - I resigned a few years ago because there was a distinct lack of activity in the Guild with very few organised events. Work commitments also left very little time for painting. However, membership did open a few more doors for me with invitations to exhibitions I may not have been given if I wasn't a member - for example Goodwood Festival of Speed, Alex Reade in Carnaby Street and the opportunity to display a portrait of Senna alongside one of his F1 cars in the Donington Collection.
I haven't made contact with the Guild since then and I don't know how active they are now - I couldn't even find a website but maybe I didn't look hard enough?

I'm gutted to hear that Oliver. I really hope you manage to paint again. If there's anything we can do to help you do say so. If you're trying to raise funds for MS organisations I might be able to get Richard Noble and Andy Green to sign one of my LSR Prints which we could then put up for auction.

Thats absolutely fantastic, thank you. I'm in talks with a few series, circuits, teams etc about what can be done to raise awareness on MS and I'll be in touch soon.
Thanks for your kind words I really appreciate them, it's very early days and hopefully with the right medication i'll get some form of control back......bloody hope so....so many paintings in my head i need to get out on paper.

Cheers Tony, I really appreciate that. There is always hope....something I'm very thankful for. Just concentrating now on raising awareness for some of th UKs MS organisations, something I can do whilst i'm unable to paint and run my business. Really hoping that after talks we can have an MS presence in some form in UK motorsport ( lol I know how much of an uphill struggle that will be.....theres some 'wonderfully' selfish people in our joyous sport, quite willing to take take take (experience in motorsport for 15 years tell me this) but never give).I'm so sorry to hear of your illness - I know what you mean about the paintings in your head! Here's hoping for frequent periods of remission if not a complete cure.
stay healthy, keep smiling and thanks again :-)

Thats exactly what i mean, Jones Foyer, my English will not do to express it like you did. Sometimes when i discuss things with "green" people, it's hard to explain that it is possible to like both, motor racing AND nature. Of course today it's more and more difficult to avoid conflicts between these interest groups. In Switzerland the reason to ban circuit racing was the Le Mans accident in 1955. Today, the argument to keep the ban is environment protection. For the ecologists racing fans are the natural enemies, for the car lovers ecologists are blinded people. The world is getting smaller and it is not easy to persist a broad-minded person...The machinery ripping through pure nature is such a jarring and exciting contrast. That's missing because the natural setting has been pushed back from the track, put behind barricades and billboards and safety runoffs. A GN with a 3.5 litre V Twin Anzani...
... and the 24 litre, four cylinder Fiat S76. I'm looking forward to drawing this as it get's put together...
The clean looking ones are done on an iPad. It makes a nice change from a pencil and I quite like the graphic look. There's a bit more info about them on my blog. Hope you like them.

I don't know really. We better ask them. I'd say it is a bloody good eye coupled with genuine enthusiasm for the subject matter. They have just got a nice feeling to them.
