I always felt privileged when Judy invited me to stay at Bray during my single trips to the UK. Through that we then all became residents on Temple Mill Island. Sunday nights were Tandoori nights and we still think of you over a curry here in Australia. HG we hope over time, will manage with a whole tooth pick.
Jude and HG in these past years, an inspiration to us all. Her many interests always lived to the full.

On Howden's thread there is an interesting discussion of the 1973 Canadian Grand Prix, which mom was charting. She always swore that Howden won the race. She had the lap charts to prove it, but was not consulted by the organizers, who ended up with a very different result. After several days of poring over the charts, official and unofficial, Mom & Howden concluded that he should have come in first or at least third in the race.Originally posted by Mirage
Judy Ganley was one of the great lady timekeepers and lap charters. She
timed and charted in Formula One in the early 70's and then in Group C in
the 1980's. She had that incredible ability to time a large number of cars
on one watch, and to keep a lap chart at Le Mans without a break for the
whole 24 hours. That takes enormous stamina.

With respect to timekeeping prowess, and more particularly the 1973 Canadian GP, I refer to initial post on this thread and the interview I carried with Judy back in Feb 2003 - when she and Howden were last here. It had occured to me that I'd read Howden's account of the race but never Judy's. I attempted to fix that with my column in the October 2003 issue of NZ Classic Car.

In his MotorSport article, Doug Nye talks about CanAm Readings of 1971. Post #71 by Mirage also talks about the readings and has a picture of Mom & Denny Hulme, who loved the readings. Doug also mentions Mom’s memorial service. . . Sir Jackie Stewart delivered a beautiful eulogy, including humorous remarks about the famous CanAm era “readings” that mom was famous for.
was at many of the GP's in the 70's era and knew Jackie and Francois well - and was friends with
Ken and Nora Tyrrell as well. She was also at Le Mans with Howden in 1972 when he and
Francois Cevert drove the Matra 670 to second place.

I thought Judy was a Redwood but some times you have to settle for what you can get! Many years ago our friend Eba Grant died and on the day I went to the garden centre the cherry was flowering its little socks off and did so every year on the anniversary. Judy died the day after Eba so I very much hope that this little tree will grow into a big beautiful tree and flower every April to remind everyone.

In reference to the above, I have several photo's of Judy's tree taken about 10 days ago. I'm struggling to upload them at the moment but when that problem is resolved you will be able to see that the tree is in bloom already, obviously keen to be getting on with things. Very appropriate!

Here is another picture of Judy's tree. I love how the tree seems to have leaped ahead of all the other trees in blossoming; just like her, getting things done well in advance of the deadline. Can trees be competitive? Go, Judy's tree, go!
Seriously, I wanted to post this additional image of renewed life during the Easter season as a symbol of hope and comfort for all. Also, to commemorate two important days in Judy's life: March 25th, 1959 (Erin's birthday, today in fact--Happy Birthday, Big Sis!) and March 23rd, 1962 (my birthday, just passed). The last couple of days mark another sad milestone for us, as it is the first time in nearly 50 years that Mom has not been able to celebrate our birthdays with us; but we know she's thinking of us and we, of course, never stop thinking of her. We love you, Mom!
Happy (belated) Easter to All!

Judy Ganley will be inducted into the Region’s Hall of Fame at the Hall of Fame Regional Race at Thunderhill Raceway on July 26. Judy was a very active SCCA racer in the 1960’s and early 1970’s in a Sprite and Mini Cooper, in addition, she served the Region as a two-term Treasurer, Assistant Regional Executive, driver observer, driver instructor, corner worker and in public relations. She was also the first female board member. Judy also represented the SF Region during her trips as a driver to the Sebring 12 Hours races in 1970 and 1971.
Later this summer, Judy’s name will be inscribed on a memorial brick which will be placed by the SF Region in the Walk of Fame, a brick pathway which parallels the racetrack leading up to the top of the famous Corkscrew turn at Laguna Seca Raceway.

Judy Golf Days' and he won the singles part of the compeition in 2003. Here he is at the 2004 day,
receiving a 'special prize' in this case for being the only man playing that day who had been seen
driving his TVR on the slowing down lap at Silverstone standing up in the drivers seat (waving to
the crowd) . That had happened some years previously, but Mom & Howden thought it was so funny
that it still merited a prize ! As a former Grand Prix driver Tiff played for the 'Racers' team in the golf.

The above photo is from the August, 1969 Cotati race program and shows Judy leading a Spitfire out of a turn during an earlier race at Cotati. This was the second car Judy raced having previously owned a bugeye Sprite. Later next month, Judy will be inducted into the San Francisco Region of the SCCA Hall of Fame for her many contributions to the Region during the late 1960's and early 1970's.

Normally I would have bought Mom a funny card--and I have seen many that I know she would laugh at heartily-- but today I would like to offer the words from a song by a wonderful performing duo known as "Coyote" (Marcy Brenner and Lou Castro) who live, compose and perform on Ocracoke Island in North Carolina's Outer Banks (they also perform all over the South Eastern U.S.). Their music is Folk/Bluegrass, one of Mom's favorite genres. The song, "Another Year Blooms," was written by Marcy Brenner in honor of her mother, Charlotte, who passed away recently after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. It accurately reflects something of the spiritual and emotional ties that continue to bind together the hearts and souls of loved ones, despite the physical separation imposed by one's passing.
Another Year Blooms
My garden in Springtime
Returns you to me
In heavenly hues
That could make the living weep.
The earthly fragrance of a rose
Fades from me.
With each season grows
Something new.
Another year blooms.
Your hopes and your dreams
Pass down to me
And keep you ever by my side.
Like the tide speaks to the moon,
You call on a celestial dime
From a mysterious room.
Another year blooms.
Every year the rhythm of the
Daffodils in Spring
Reminds me of your hope
To have another chance to sing.
Even still, now, without you,
In spite of Winter's gloom,
Another year blooms.
I have in a drawer
Souvenirs and memories,
Silver strands sealed in time
Reaching across the fine line
In between
Our laughter and our tears.
A bittersweet perfume,
Another year blooms.
Another year blooms.
Happy Birthday, Mom. I miss your friendship, counsel and humor every day, but especially today.
Love,
Eric

rally star. They had 2000 applicants, which they whittled down to 600, and
then conducted a series of tests to find a winner. Judy was selected to be
among the 600, and acquitted herself very well at a test of 100 held at a
special stage in a gravel pit near Frome.
One of Ford's greatest rally stars, Roger Clark, was present as a judge. Here
is a picture of Roger with Judy, taken in front of the Ford Escort which was
used for the tests.

Present to accept the award were Judy’s husband, Howden Ganley and daughter, Erin Pritchett (see attached photos). Both Erin and Howden spent time before the presentation, meeting and reminiscing with other attendee’s who had raced, worked or knew Judy during her time with the SFR/SCCA.
At the conclusion of the presentations and following dinner, the audience was treated to a showing of a proposed television pilot in the 1960’s entitled “The Thrillseekers” which starred Judy and her brother Ralph. The showing was of particular interest to those in attendance since there were numerous scenes of old Laguna Seca and two other, now defunct Northern California racetracks, Cotati and Vaca Valley. It was a fitting end to a very nice evening.

although the second picture does look rather like her. She
did star in an earlier movie, the pilot of a proposed TV series
called "The Thrillseekers", made in about 1965. Parts of it were
filmed at Laguna Seca and at two of the now closed race tracks,
Cotati and Vacaville.

Loti is referring to a wonderful new book which has recently been published, although very modestly she has not said that she is the Editor. It is entitled “Inside the Doghouse” and is described as ‘A brief history of the Women’s Motor Racing Associates Club – known as The Doghouse Owners’ Club’. It has been put together by Loti and the design and layout are the work of Simone Grant, daughter of Eba and Gregor. It is really a history of the cabarets and pantomimes staged by the Doghouse Club over many years, which raised very large sums of money for charities, usually those which had a connection to motor racing. Many of the ladies who played in the cabarets have written about their memories.
Mom joined the Club soon after she first arrived in England, and she loved to sing, dance, and act, in all those great shows. I was lucky enough to get to go to the rehearsals for the 1979 show! What a fun bunch of ladies!

What could be a photo of a modern day vintage race is actually a shot of Judy in her Mini leading a pack of cars around the turn five at Sears Point in , 1969. Interesting group of cars which includes two Minis, a Bugeye Sprite, an Abarth and what looks like an NSU.
