I would suggest a note to the ACM, Simon, as I see that it is described as "Ouvrage officiel de l'Automobile Club de Monaco", so they must have given their approval to being connected with the volume. Now the interesting bit. I have sent three emails about the problem and all of a sudden the publisher is not replying to my emails. I am attempting to obtain a refund via my credit card company, but please be warned.

I saw this book in the bookshop today. It looks like an interesting read, chronicling the Donington Park 1937 and 1938 races and the role they played in the build up to war. I think it is a new publication but has anyone read this book and can recommend it. Books are a bit of an expensive luxury for me and I don't like to buy a book without some recommendations.
The author is Christopher Hilton.
Thankyou
Simon Davis
Runways and Racers.
For those interested in American motoring history the book should appear by the end of the month. The story of the combined efforts of the SCCA and Strategic Air Command to fulfill their own aims of competitive racing following the ban on public road racing, and raising money to improve living conditions for airmen stationed at military bases throughout America.
Published by Veloce Press in Britain. Priced at £35.00.

The same question about Janos Wimpffen's future publications came on an other forum by the end of last year and here is Mr Wimpffen's answer:
Good to hear from you. My publication schedule is the following (dates are
not exact, but the sequence is)
early 2010; a book on the history of Elva
spring 2010; a "decade book" of Time and Two Seats, covering the 1999-2009
period--similar format with stories, photos, and data
June-July 2010; a data book with the same races as the original Time and Two
Seats but with additional information such as more chassis numbers plus
corrections of mistakes--very little text and photos, mostly data
Only then will we discuss the possibility of a "GT photo book"--that is,
1993-1998.
Let's stay in contact!
Regards,
Janos

The first is "Corvette Racing Legends" by Dr. Peter Gimenez which gives a detailed account about the Vette racing cars in 60's and 70's.
http://www.vetturapu...ity-VPCL108.htm
The other one is "The Porsche 904, 906, 910 in the Americas". It is also a very much recommended.
http://www.sportscarracinghistory.com.
If you're interested in Porsche GT cars, there will be a book published about the 934/935 in autumn by Jürgen Barth. It willl probably similar to his books about the Porsche 904 and 906. Hopefully it will contain all 935 variants like the Kremer K3 and K4, the Joest Moby Dick or the JLP's and will not only focus on the Group 5 World Championship, but will also include IMSA and DRM.

Does anyone have any news about the publication of the above!
The Elva book is due for release at the Monterey Historic Reunion. There will be a book launch on Thursday August 18th, I believe at their tent between 6-9pm - as of yet this is not fully confirmed, more of a tentative date and time.
It's going to be quite a book, with approx 500 pages with a price of $99 for the standard version.
No doubt with the level of detail and research Janos puts into his books, it should be a mine of information.

Having seen the text and photos of the Elva book, I can truly say that it will be a stunner, entirely appropriate to the significance of the marque, revealing all significant details of the cars and the company plus the people behind it. As we all know, Elva has never before had a definitive history, but Janos and David are giving us just that!

Many thanks, FrankJust posted an ad on the For Sale & Wanted forum for two hardbound volumes of all 1938 issues of Autocar magazine, January-December, excellent condition, $225 total plus shipping; credit cards accepted. Since these are technically "books", and since the classified threads seem to be less frequently read than this one is, I'm posting this note. The Works in Bicester had about a dozen copies of Graham Robson's British Touring Car Racing in Camera for £2.99 this lunchtime...
Not bad value for a book that has a RRP of £30.00 !!
If I only I'd waited a a couple of monhts, I think I had mine for £3.99.
I tried my local branch, but nothing interesting, unless you're interested in my gran's Christmas present.

This illustrates the quandary: £3.99 is good value but £1.99 is better, but "Once they're gone they're gone".If I only I'd waited a a couple of monhts, I think I had mine for £3.99.

I find it's worth popping into the local Works, "Poundland" and "99p" shops whenever I'm in a strange town - just in case. I've still missed some that have been listed here, eg Boddy's Montlhery history, but I've also found some that weren't on here such as the story of the 1908[?] New York - Paris race (the one the Thomas Flyer won).
Charity shops are worth a look but tend to be Hamilton, Mansell or Damon potboiler biographies and various "eff wun encyclopedias" but you never know ...

Nuvolari - Hilton
Formula One Unseen Archives - Tim Hill

I'd seen a few of the books that Christopher Hilton had been responsible for, and regarded him as superficial and lightweight, a potboiler specialist par excellence, but on someone's recommendation, having long been fascinated by everything about the subject, I bought Nuvolari. I was surprised that Hilton had it in him, but this book is well researched, the best account of Nuvolari's racing career that I've seen, though rather lacking in information about his life outside motor racing. I wasn't planning to part with my copy, though I'm surprised to learn that it's now fairly valuable. Hilton's Nuvolari is almost a classic, one of the best of its kind I've seen, hang onto it.

For those who are feeling they are missing out and, like me, do not have a local branch, The Works do have a website from which you can order some of their stock for home delivery.
Last time I looked they still had the "Photographic Portrait of Gilles Villeneuve" for £2.99, Paul Frere's "My Life Full of Cars" for £1.99, Tremayne's "The Science of Safety" for 99p and Roebuck's "Chasing the Title" for £1.99. There are also some year books and assorted car picture books.
I've picked all these up plus Regga the other day, though that seems to have sold out for now.
Postage seems to be between £3 and £5 depending how many books you buy, which is not too bad. For me that is no worse than the cost of driving to and paying to park to get to my nearest real branch.

Sorry to contradict, as I suspect that Palawan will not want to miss any sales, but the price on the blurb which they sent me is £300, with the £50 reduction for pre-orders, ordered and paid by September.Palawan have announced another new book called 'Racers - Memoirs of the gentlemen drivers' by the prolific Anthony Pritchard. The clothbound edition (500 copies) is priced at £250 but if you order before September there is a £50 discount. The leatherbound signed edition (25 copies) commands a cool £700.

Yes, there are far more books than normal at a Bonhams Goodwood Friday auction, and those first lots do look like a collection, bundled into themes.I can't help, but ponder, seeing the volume of books involved here that the question might be "Would your children?".
Would my children...? Of course they will, with my blessing. When I'm gone, no one else in the family will read my books. Best by far that they (the books that is) go to a good home, and my kids get to have some fun with the proceeds.

Last year I privately sold off my collection (>200 titles) of books about Porsche. I really needed the shelf space and the cash didn't hurt, either! Since we have no children I expect what's left of the library when I go will be given to a library or perhaps fill in some gaps in someone's (preferably a non-profit's) collection.

This is all getting a bit morbid Jack, isn't it? But since you raise the point, a library or non-profit collection is a worthy destination. I will always be grateful to those who've gone before me and and left their collections to Brooklands' research library. That collection just gets better and better...Greetings, Paul. Yes, that does appear to be a collection broken into categories, doesn't it?
