Bazzer did ride Derbi, but not sure if it was on 50s though. He did a an outing on the (Derbi) 250 twin I recall.
Didn't Sarrinen have a go on a Van Veen also.Saw Jan de Vries at Spa a couple of years ago on his.Absolutely Amazing.

Spot on Cédric
The picture came with following description: Raffaele-Alberti 49 guzzi - but can someone tell the year of this event - it was obviously before the use of proper exhausts!

In 1971 Jarno Saarinen was hired in, to take points away from Nieto, helping Jan deVries and VanVeen taking the title.

I know Parlotti ride for MORBIDELLI with the first 125cc single cylinder.
So maybe it's a 125 MORBIDELLI,photo taken Salzburg 1971during practice ?

It looks like only 1 expansion exhaust underneath though,so I think its a single cylinder(Morbidelli were twins?)and very skinny tyres,so I reckon it must be a 50cc

You're right ,I made a mistake Morbidelli 125 was twin cylinder
On the photo we can see a radiator so engine is liquid cooled.
Other detail it seems to be the carburator on the right side.
An other thing about the rider may be Parlotti but be careful there was also an other rider TOMOS with exactly the same helmet

Hi all, this picture appears in a fantastic pocket size book looking back at the 1972 & 1973 race seasons, the picture is attributed to the 1973 Austrian GP at Salzburgring, there was no 50cc GP there that year, but there was a 125GP.
Back to the book, the English title is a misleading, "Motor cycle Racing Guide 1974" it is a Swiss published book, by SIL Sports Book Edition, Chief editor Jurg Dubler, its cramed with hundreds of colour pictures race results and circuit diagrams etc, it will be long out of print now but if you come across one on ebay or a used book shop GET IT!!! its superb.
Cheers,
Graham.

OK with you about the rider Aldo Pero
the place Salzburg 1973

and the bike ?
for me since the start it's not a 50cc but a 125cc
The front tyre seems to be very triangular for a rr6.

Aldo Pero race with a Yamaha in 1973 (but 2 cylinders) and a Carem in 1974.

So for me it's a MAICO 125rs (mono cylinder, carburator excentric on the right and see the carter's engine on the left it seems to be big like MAICO )
Maybe also on the photo we can see the selector systeme and also the chain on the right's bike.

This book is fantastic,I have one for sale if someone is interested,I'll be at Dijon in one week.

dedicace for my friends Etienne Delamarre,Jean-Louis Pasquier and Daniel Crivello who were at Ospedaletti 1971

I am lucky to have one of these too, given to me years ago by my friend Christian Lacombe. The bike is indeed a Maico 125cc.

Definitely the 1963-64 Carreras Cliente... with lots of seizures with the old Borgo pistons made from Spanish aluminum since Franco would not let imported alloy get in...
But they were quite fast and had a cool and usable 9HP. They had electronic ignition still retaining the flywheel from the stock mopeds and a very good 5-speed cluster.
Lotsa memories...

That was a tough one, and I had to seek a friends expert advice !
Göran Kähler, member of Golden 50cc Racing Riders, tells the story behind this picture:
1965 Ring Knutstorp - #2 and 3 Thosio Fujii and Leif Rosell - ex 64 works Suzukis on loan from Suzukis- Dutch headquarters. #15 Börje Jansson on Rosells Derbi, Sven Håkanson - HM- disc- valved Sachs, #11 Jørgen Nielsen - Derbi, #10 Björn Carlsson - ILO 3sp., Lasse Johansson - HM- Sachs, and Sigurd Forsell - Tomos D5S.

Result of this race: From a clear lead, the Suzukis collided, and Börje Jansson zoomed by to take the win. Rosell managed to restart and came in second, Sven Håkansson third. Fourth was Dane Jørgen Nielsen.

Göran Kähler´s beautiful Kreidler, a Swedish built special, at first housing a Sachs 5-speed and later modified for a brand new Kreidler RS 5- speed engine. Before the 1970 season, engine was taken to VanVeen headquarters, where a disc- valve conversion was made by Jos Schurgers. A very special bike with many handmade parts, including aluminum fuel tank and clutch/ brake- levers.

No doubt that with the Suzies out and no "works" Kreidlers with rotary valve induction, the Derbi Carreras Cliente would clean the clock of everything else then... that is until the Kreidler RS and its racing variants appeared in 1968.

I always loved the Earles fork on the Kreidler. The works bike I drove for Leconte in France had a handling absolutely unmatched by the Derbis, and this on 17" Avon tires at a time when the Dunlop "triangular" was king!
