We just finished restoring one of the two 1972 International Fleetstar 2110 transporters that was used by Penske Racing from 1972-1975. Here is what it looked like when we rolled it out of the shop in the '73 Sunoco Porsche-Audi livery for the Kohler International Challenge Road & Track Concours d'Elegance.
All I can say is we would have been better off restoring a small country and/or an entire grid!
Respectfully Yours,

Hi Tim,
Thanks for sharing the Colin Bennett shots. Do you know what the Hanson Trucks connection is on the Maggie, please?

Hi Tim,
Thanks for sharing the Colin Bennett shots. Do you know what the Hanson Trucks connection is on the Maggie, please?
I believe that it was Bob Hanson who raced in special saloons and his car war prepared and ran by CB therefore a deal was struck with the MD tractor unit.

It is a Fiat 642 Rn2 bodied by Bartoletti lightly modified.
It was originally one of the two old Bartoletti racingtransporters owned by Scuderia Ferrari.
This is the history:
Registerd the 3/3/1957 with license plate MO 42629 (ch#02989)
From 1957 to 1965 owned by Scuderia Ferrari and Sefac
From 1966 to 1970 owned by Jolly Club racing team of Milano
From 1970 to 1973 owned by TECNO racing team
From 1973 sold to Scuderia CSAI Racing Team and blue painted, then abandoned.
1988 Found in a farm near Milano and then sold in Finarte auction to Freshman and Beecham that fully restored it
1997 sold to Fritz Grashei

Post 1826 , is one of the brillant pictures from Anthony Carters/ Veloce book : Motor Racing , reflections of a lost era. The picture will be deleted if wanted.
MY question is to the vehicle on the left of the BRM transporter. I have tried to find out ,and come up with either John Dalton or Anglo- American Equipe transporter , or of course none at all.
Do any of you have any idea to this vehicle ?

Hi Bjorn
I hought this might be the Essex Racing Stable Aston transporter.I have a few photos from Monthlery 1962 and is very similar so may have had a little work down to change the colour slightly. The stripe appear the same, but the colour of the upper half is different.

Interesting story Speedy, sorry to read that you lost control of that deal, but good to know that you played an important part in its resurrection. Is it still possible for you to keep tabs on the thing? It would be good to find out if it is a work-in-progress or still waiting in the wings.
Here are a few shots of the famed Ferrari hauler that made such a splash at the Pebble Beach / Monterey Historic meeting in 2001.
It was the "talk of the lawn" this 1957 Fiat Tip 682R Ferrari racing transporter. This incredibly restored carrier is one of only two left in the world and both reside in the Pacific Northwest. It was one hell of an appearance with no less than 3, TR 250s on board.
I failed to get the name of the owner of this magnificent rig, does anyone have a clue?
This transporter is a Fiat 682 Rn2 bodied by Bartoletti of Forlì.
It is the result of a stunning restoration job, made by SilmaBus of Modena.
I am almost sure that this is a replica, based on a similar Fiat truck chassis .
The owner (in Monterey 2001) was Pat Hart.
Mr.Hart passed away in october of 2001. The truck is actually owned by the estate of P. Hart.
The original truck was owned by Ferrari from 1960 to 1968 and the license plate was MO 53210.
It was the last of five similar open deck trucks built by Bartoletti. Four were built for Ferrari and one for Maserati.
As said before it was a Fiat 682Rn2, the other ones were based on the 642 chassis and engine.
Ciao

Does any one know where the Tyrell transporter went to which was built for the 6 wheel F1 cars. I saw it the car park at Daytona speedway when I was on holiday in1993 then later on same holiday saw it in Fort lauderdale. It had John Brannigan International Motor Racing on it and on the back Leyton House F1. I know it was the ex Tyrell truck had photos from seeing it at Silverstone when Jody was testing. Also what happened to John Brannigan (The March Man)?.
Re John Brannighan late of Blackpool check the Rupert Keegan thread because there is quite a bit on him there, apparantly he entered a car at Indy.

Hi all Transporter fanatics!!!
Looking for pics of the BMC Race Transporter that The BMC Competition Dept. used from 1967.
It was originally a Service Training Unit, but were bought from The Service Dept. for £1 !!!
Extended at the rear too haul two Minis by Oswald Tillotson at Burnley.
Its first trip was to Nürnburgring, Aug. 1967. (Marathon de la Route)
It was later used by the British Leyland Special Tuning Service.
The license plate was BMC 34.
Later, Paul Stanworth has made a copy of this vehicle, license BMC 25.
The original transporter were burn out by vandals in the nineties.
Also looking for pics of another bus, a 1963 Training Unit used as a support vehicle by The Comps.
It has now license 168 UXS, but originally license BMC 43 (?????). I'm not sure about this one, but I'll
guess you are!!!
Photos and other info are highly welcome.
Many Thanks,
Brimen

It is interesting that I took a colour photograph of the Maserati version at Modena. It was used by Autosport in an article and I never saw the transparency again. I continue to keep a look out for it cropping up somewhere as it is the reason why I and many other photographers of the period are extremely careful about the placing of photographs.

Graham, everything that I took on 35mm transparencies & negative film and then submitted to Autosport & Motorsport News has been swallowed up into the system. I wonder if they have subsequently passed the stuff on to one of the libraries? I'd hate to think that they were thrown away!!!

Nice picture, Graham.
I'm absolutely sure about the date of registry of the two red Bartoletti 642rn2 owned by Scuderia Ferrari.
MO 42629 ch.# 02989 registered 3/3/1957 (the transporter depicted in your picture)
MO 42628 ch.# 03002 registered 23/3/1957
In my opinion, your picture cannot be of 1956.
During the 1956 season, the Scuderia Ferrari owned a different open deck transporter also built by Bartoletti.
It was a 642Rn registered in 1955 with license plate MO 35150, and the body was two tones grey .
The transporter in the picture (red and not grey) is the 642Rn2 Bartoletti MO 42629 ch.# 02989 of 1957 .
The car on the upper deck is a Ferrari 801, the F1 that raced in 1957 season.
The F1 car for 1956 was the Lancia/Ferrari D50. That car had the fuel and oil tanks, mounted in two big panniers between the wheels.
Note that the car in the picture is without these side tanks.
So, in my opinion, the photo seems taken at 1957 British GP in Aintree.

This one I saw at the Eifelrennen, the historic meeting at the Nürburgring last weekend. It is a 1934 "Pritschenwagen", used for transport of the W25 race cars. Obviously a replica, but very well made, up to the "Third Reich" stamps on the licence plates!
BTW, Björn: there is a company in Germany which specializes in historic race transporters. They have a website, too: Historische Renntransporter. Thought that this might be of interest to you!

I know of a converted coach used for 1954 Italian Grand Prix. A Bedford chassis in 1955 and Leyland Tiger delivered in June 1957. At one stage Vandervell borrowed vehicle from Rootes competion team.
When the Vanwalls raced in Sicily in April 1957 at least two transporters would be required to carry VW1,VW3 and VW5 to Syracuse Grand Prix. As this was before the Leyland Royal was commissioned which transporters did Vanwall use?

I believe that this was the one that Philip Walker had for a short time - ex Tom Wheatcroft. Looks great and he sold it for very little money as it was a pain to load anything as the pitch was too steep and it was dog slow. Although it came from a great provenance I belive it might have been made more recently than the registration would suggest
[/quot
Built for Wheatcroft , in the late 70s, early eighties , also used by Mark Galvin IIRC.
