The countdown thread has pictures of cars, but not much else.
There didnt seem to be any thread yet made to start talking about the various activities such as driver appearances, the weather and other related events that might be happening in the leadup to the first practise session, Albert Park, not much more than a week away now.

So... to start with, heres a few 10 day weather forecasts.
Thursday looks cool and slightly wet.
Friday more uncertain.

Zoover says cool and slightly damp for the whole race weekend.

As someone who lives in Melbourne, I wouldn't put much faith in 10 day weather forecasts - I'd be waiting till the wednesday before the race before I'd start to take notice...

I am pumped up.
Webber will be fighting for the win and Michael hopefully fighting for a podium (or a win - who knows!). My 2 favourite drivers in the mix. Cannot ask for much more than that by way of build up...
Hope the rain stays away as i will be there at T1 to see it unfold first hand! :p
Bring it!

Hmmm... imagine Webber and Schumi fighting for the same piece of track at T1... gonna end in tears there! :(

The Countdown thread is only supposed to be pictures of cars, and what Krapmeister said is pretty true, Melbourne weather can change on a dime, so don't really look at 10 day forecasts.
I know last year there were a couple of guys who compiled excellent 'Official Grand Prix Weekend' threads, with various stats, standings, web links, fun facts, maps and more. I'm sure someone will start working on one in a few days time.

Not a gambler, but I bet some folks wouldn't mind you re-adlusting the size of your sig. It's a little spammy.

Same here. Since 1987. So I know exactly what you mean about the weather... but its all we have to go by so far.
That, and the fact that the whole summer has been generally "cooler than average with the chance of showers".

Well, it seems I'm beginning to develop one. I bet you $20 you don't keep your sig that size for the whole season :rotfl:

Yeah true - while we have had a fairly cool and relatively damp summer, I wouldn't be surprised to see it spike up into the mid 30's. But I'd be happy with a damp race...

AccuWeather very, very, very early forecast: http://www.accuweath...e/forecast.aspx

Friday - Sun with Showers, 21 degrees
Saturday - Rain, 17 degrees
Sunday - Rain, 16 degrees

In reality, though, I'll be using:

Friday - Sun with Showers, 21 degrees
Saturday - Rain, 17 degrees
Sunday - Rain, 16 degrees

Would be great for the race on one hand! On the other, it would cloud the picture of who's where at the moment, which we all want to know!

I'd be shocked if it isn't cold and wet. The entire east coast has been wet for 6 months, welcome in many parts after 7 years of dry/hot weather I guess.

You trust the weather forecast for sunday 5 days before?!

That's optimistic to say the least, usually in Melbourne (don't live there, been there several times) I wake up and turn on the news, which says it's sunny and 19 degrees, open the curtains of my hotel room and it's bucketting down with rain.

I'm actually really looking forward to Friday Practice, first chance to see the tyres, wings, everything that has been hyped in the pre-season in action.

And seeing as we're gambling, who wants to give me 5-1 on no safety car on the first lap? :D I'm that bad a gambler :stoned:

This past Sunday it bucketed down rain at 3pm so the race would be very wet at race start. Good chance it will rain over the weekend but again no guarantee. I suspect the temp will be cool between 18-22 degrees all weekend.

Use this site early next week for a more accurate forecast:

http://www.bom.gov.a...melbourne.shtml

I usually post pics of the circuit being set up in the Albert Park build up thread but this time my camera is having issues with transferring pics and I cant get them on my computer.

Key changes - pitlane entry is slightly different and now there is a brand new pit building near the final corner set up for the V8 supercars.

the red bull race off should be interesting:

http://www.grandprix...d-bull-race-off

"Scuderia Toro Rosso practice and third driver Daniel Ricciardo, former Red Bull Racing F1 driver and BBC commentator David Coulthard, V8 Supercars star Rick Kelly and motorcycle daredevil Robbie Maddison will go head-to-head in this show race, driving specially-modified Mégane Renault Sport 250s."

It looks like the photo matching the profile for daniel ricciardo is a pic of rick kelly though

If there was ever a tournament or competition where the object is to have the most squeaky and annoying voice possible, Rick Kelly would be grand master of the universe. Then forced to retire and be made a judge as its unfair for the rest of the competition.

Before the rain came on Sunday though it was very humid and about 33 degrees - once the rain came it had dropped to low 20's. And the weather forecast for the weekend was one of showers mostly, yet apart from the sunday afternoon it was generally blue skies, sunny and warm... :drunk: :stoned:

Looks like Friday may have a few scattered showers but Saturday will apparently be sunny and 24 based on the 7 day forecast. Likely to be a dry race which is good and bad I guess.
