I was just wondering, where can I find some info on this pre-war Libyan racetrack. I've checked the stuff at Grand Prix History and Tracks Around the World, but I'm looking for pics and technical info, too. I'm sure you gentlemen can come up with something. Thank you.

Valerio Moretti had written a trilinguial book called Grand Prix Tripoli 1925-1940.

Lot's of b & w pictures (of course) and the complete results.

The book is quite recent (1994) and It costed me 350 FF (35 £)

There was a story on the Tripoli races in Automobile Quarterly some year ago. I can't tell you what issue but I think it was called "To the shores of Tripoli".
I wrote a story in Classic Car Africa a couple of years ago on the 1939 Tripoli GP, which was won by the "little Mercs" of Lang and Carraciola (spelling? but you know who I mean)
I am sure that you can get a backnumber thru Isebel at http://www.classic-car.co.za
Regards
Rob

Eric,
Are you thinking of making the track for GPL? I've got the book and I'll see what other info I can come up with. This is going to take time.

There's also an italian book by Alberto Redaelli called "Gran Premio di Tripoli", from the late 80s.
I have it, it's good for the pictures, but poor for the records, results, etc.

At some point in the not too distant future there should be an article either here at Atlas or in Motor Sport that should resolve at least some of the issues concerning the 1933 Gran Premio. When I know something, you'll know something.

Don, the most comprehensive story about that 1933 race I've read is in Moretti's Nuvolari.

Do you think there's a better source?

I have been privileged to see a "sneak" preview of Don's Tripoli story.
It's well worth waiting for.

Patrick, No offense to Sr. Moretti or others, but mine is much more accurate -- and I have done much more work on it since I showed it to Rob.;)

For excellent footage on the Tripoli circuit see the German film "Battle Against Time."

Don,

I look forward reading your article. I assume you'll give us notice when it's available somewhere.

Porsche917,

do you actually have that book? I would be very interested in copies or scans of any picture showing the Alfas at Tripoli 1938. I'm currently researching on those cars.

Eric,

Chaters in UK lists it as "in stock" at £49.95.

Try:

http://www.chaters.co.uk/

keyword 'tripoli' in the search engine.

Disclaimer: I have no kind of link with Chaters (I would like to, if that could give me discounts on their books) :)

Porsche917, from the properties (right mouse click) of your "photo" I can see that the linked address is "desktop" on your computer's "C" disk. Sorry, but this cannot work! You have to upload the photo to a FTP server in order to have public access possibility.

Hi guys, can you send me photos of the tripoli GP?

I'm doing the track for GP3 but i've only managed to find 5 photos on the net so far, if you want i can send them to you.

Was the track totally flat or not?

Thanks!
