I'm pleased to announce that our new Android app has been let loose on the world in a blaze of soft-launch glory. It should make browsing the website much, much more enjoyable on the Android mobile platform.
It costs £2.99 and is available on the Android Market here https://market.andro...m.autosport.app
You can customise your home screen to whichever race series you follow the most; use the app to follow our live text commentary over F1 race weekends; and if you subscribe to PLUS you can access our premium content through it, too. Not to mention look at the galleries and check out our 60-year stats database (powered by Forix)...
Any feedback always appreciated.
Many thanks
Jim

I'd like to make a suggestion. Yesterday I was reading "Gary Anderson: Exhaust systems explained" in the Plus section. The presentation is nice and I like the pictures at the top with the left and right arrows to navigate through them. What would be nice though is to tap the picture itself and have it show in full screen and be able to zoom in and out with the multi-touch. That would have given me a much better look on those exhausts.

BTW: I'm in Saudi Arabia if that has anything to do with it.

Probably location problem, works 100% on my Desire, if your phone is rooted you can use something like Market Access to fake a different locationNot available for my device according to Android Market, I have a HTC Desire which is hardly an uncommon phone, any other reason why I can't install it?

Can you access the forums through the app?
No

Just as I thought, I have only had it for a week or so, not found a good reason to root the thing so far until now. I don't understand why Autosport would restrict the app in this way, makes no sense to bar certain countries when you are "the authority on Formula 1..."

Please don't take us Android users for the mugs that iPhone users are!

I've gotta say that I find the £2.99 cost for this app ridiculous! Especially when you can get a similar (unofficial app) for free.
Please don't take us Android users for the mugs that iPhone users are!
The guys who work for Autosport have families to look after as well, you know. The content doesn't magically produce itself.
I'm sure if somebody said your work wasn't worth the price of a pint of beer then you wouldn't be best pleased.

One of the reasons I bought it was because I wanted live content, the problem is it doesn't work for me, I always get "content unavailable, please check your connection settings and try again". My connection settings are fine since I have no problems accessing the "Plus" features.
I reported the problem two weeks after the first race and a few days later I got a reply from Jim asking me the brand and model of my phone. I sent that and haven't heard anything since then. About a week ago I emailed them again to inquire on the status of this problem and haven't got a reply yet. Meanwhile, I'm posting here but I don't think it's gonna make any difference since Jim hasn't been seen on this forum for over two months according to his profile.
Has anyone else in Canada bought the Android app ? Is working for you, can you get live content ? Is there a log somewhere on the phone that I can check and try to fix this myself ?

Firstly, apologies for not replying sooner: I have been on holiday for a couple of weeks in the States (the Florida Keys to be precise) enjoying the heat and chilled-out pace of life down there without any internet connection. It really is a good hideaway for fishermen and alcoholics (I am the former), though not so much for motorsports fans!
Okay, this is the situation with your app.
Following my email to you, I did ask our technical guru (developer) Geoff to look into it, as I said I would. He has now done so... and we're none the wiser as to why you can't get live on your phone! To my knowledge, we have only had one other complaint along these lines from someone in Eastern Europe and we are totally stumped by both of them. It's not often we can say a problem has beaten us, but for the moment it looks like this one has. Maybe it does have something to do with you being in Canada, but I very much doubt it.
The only thing I can say is send me a PM and let's see if we can either get your money back for you, or offer you something else that might be of interest that is of suitable compensation.
Very best wishes and apologies again
Jim
