Yeah I loved that bit.<grub>pit this lap
<lewis>sorry didnt hear that
<everyone> :D
Really enjoyed watching that, they were both beaming after they'd driven, and you could really feel their appreciation
I just wish they both could have gone out again on slicks
I also found funny the slight disappointment in the american commentators voice when Tony didn't do a burnout, it almost seemed a matter of pride.

Haha no offense but there was no way Tony couldve managed that in just a few laps of running in an F1 car

In regards to Lewis' experience he taught at PalmerSport in the UK several years ago so he has some experiences in driving touring cars.

Well, that and he's a world champion...
He just got lucky and was allowed to train so much in a simulator before F1.

It looked like a great fun for everyone involved. Certainly it was fun to watch. Only these Speed commercials are real pain in the ass. They always happen in the worst possible moment.
Is that FAT BASTARD behind
My first thought as well.

Just watching - so far both have come off very well in the pre show interviews. That is how far behind we are in California...lol.
No matter though, as California is the greatest state in the Union.

Wow, this was actually extremely good coverage. Good job Speed.
Except they had the program as 30 minutes in the guide so my DVR only recorded up to the first lap or so of Lewis in Stewart's car.

Such a total bullsh1t line from speed, saying that there have been more F1 drivers from America than any other country apart from the UK. While technically correct, it is actually totally misleading. We all know why this is the case, but the casual viewer would not know that.
Actually, it's not technically correct either. If you only did the Indy 500 (1950-1960) you participated in the WDC but you were not driving a Formula One car.

Big boned? You know the deal, when people say someone's "big boned", it means they're fat and trying to come up with an excuse! He did a special one off of Tony Stewart Live the night before Eldora and talked a bit about working out and getting back in shape. He looks good. He's always been a bit big boned for a race driver but the few seasons before this one he was packing on the pounds.
Seriously, Tony has slimmed down quite a bit (yet again!), and seems to have kept it off...so far. As loki writes above, while Tony has yo-yoed a few times weight wise, he had really packed the pounds on. 2009 in particular. He lost a lot of weight going into last season, but put much of it back on. Rinse, lather, repeat.
I'm hardly a Stewart fan, but he is hardly fat at the moment, and has done a good job of shedding the poundage.

He's max weight for an F-16 pilot.
As far as NASCAR goes I don't think there is a max weight for a driver, and even if they are 'big boned' like Jimmy Spencer, I think the cars are way under their weight limit, so there is plenty of room to distribute weight and keep the cup car balanced.

lighter driver is still a advantage as the weight ballest would go lower in the car, in the frame rails probably

they probably all run underweight tbh, as there weighed twice a year for the car+driver amount (the driver that is), at the daytona races i think. so i expect the drivers would drink and eat as much as possible before weighing day XD

There are a few ways to ballast. One is the construction of the car itself. In the frame rails they have the capability to load tungsten blocks as ballast. There still is a max distribution to meet as well so you can't ballast your outside of the percentages the rules state.
On edit, a bit from Longacre on stock car ballast basics...

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.—Before Tuesday’s ride swap with Lewis Hamilton, there was a section of the Watkins Glen International road course Stewart had never seen, the .95-mile boot-shaped section called—you guessed it—the “boot.”
After racing on it in both a Sprint Cup and a Formula One car, Stewart would like to see NASCAR incorporate the boot into its August Cup race here.
Tony Stewart enjoyed running on the long course at Watkins Glen, and he hopes NASCAR uses it in the future. (AP Photo)“I enjoyed the long course,” Stewart said. “I’d never been around it till today. I told (NASCAR executive and pace car driver) Brett Bodine when we got out of the car after our setup runs that I would like the opportunity to see us having a shot at running the long course.
“I think it would create more passing opportunities, for sure, and it’s just such a historic racetrack, and there are some really cool corners down there that we don’t get a shot to run on a Cup weekend.”
Five-time defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson said much the same thing after running a Grand-Am race at the Glen last year. Armed with the endorsements of Stewart and Johnson, WGI president Michael Printup plans to lobby NASCAR president Mike Helton, vice president of competition Robin Pemberton and senior vice president of racing operations Steve O’Donnell about running the full course.
“By tomorrow morning, I’ll have a message in to Mr. Helton and Mr. Pemberton and Mr. O’Donnell,” Printup said. “I’ve asked them over and over again, and I think this was just the real live testimonial that it can happen.
“Our races are becoming shorter now (in duration), because we’ve paved all the gravel traps, and we’ve taken out a lot of the mishaps and (loss) of track time. Now we just have to pave (Turn) 8, which is down in the heel of the boot, and I think we could have some great racing.”
The tradeoff would be a reduction in the number of laps on a longer course.
“Like Tony and I were talking after the event (Tuesday), it’s just going to give us a lot more opportunity to pass,” Printup said. “I think that would make it more exciting for the fans, and it opens up another major section where fans love to view racing.
“I’m going to cross my fingers and work on NASCAR next.”

don't let them ruin the boot with "modern" run offs and moving people back from the three rows of barb wire that keeps the drunks off the track
