Went to the GT race today at Silverstone and saw the new pit complex today (from the public spectators view). I sat in the new granstand opposite the pits.

Whilst the building itself looked fantastic and I am sure it will be great for all those corporate guests and media people but for the normal fan I was a little disappointed.

The main concern I have is the fact that sitting in the grandstands opposite the pits you cannot see the cars very well in the pit lane. At the pit exit the pit lane itself drops down completely out of sight.

I know the old pits were getting a bit shabby but at least you could see the teams working on the cars at pit stops etc.

On a more positive note Abbey corner being the first corner at the start is going to see some action as its not far from the start line.

Generally I thought the new spectator facilities were good and a step forward from the old days. Again getting to the back of the new pits is not easy as there is no tunnel or bridge on the start straight like the original circuit (which has also been removed), they were running shuttle buses from the old paddock to the back of the new pits.

I noticed that in the pictures, it was funky to look at but it didn't make a lot of sense. All it does is bring the cars out of view of the main grandstand, and why would you do that?

And god I hope they have a drainage system worked out...

I dont think they build the circuits nowadays for the fans - they are an inconvenience that have to be tolerated.

I'm sure when they first started the project there was a statement saying that the view of the pits would be better and that you would be able to see the teams working on the cars. Seems they havent lived upto that.

Was watching coverage of GT1 & GT3 yesterday and grandstands seemed largely to be empty  I think they are an inconvenience needed only for F1?

I'm sure the fans that have paid a lot of money to sit in that stand opposite the pits will be happy to hear that!
