NASCAR Pocono weekend # 1 (Trucks in Texas)

Known for producing boring races, the track itself is unique--with an irregular triangle shape, there are three distinct corners and the setup is always a compromise. There are also different surfaces at different temperatures (the "tunnel turn" is so named because the tunnel to access the infield runs under it) so it's quite tricky.
It used to be said that it's the track that races most like a road course, but that was before the gear rule. Before the gear rule, drivers actually changed gears during green flag conditions. IMO it's a shame they don't do that any more.

By the way, congratulations to Clint Bowyer for winning Tony Stewart's Prelude to the Dream charity event in Rossburg, Ohio last night.

I'm going to have to watch the Cup race, cos that gives me an excuse to download and watch the BBC feed of the F1 race! The Cup race starts at the same time as the F1 race But looking at the bright side of life, that gives a very good excuse to keep on watching racing cars when the F1 race finishes
NO TALKING ABOUT THE F1 RACE RESULTS IN THIS THREAD

They recently changed the rules so they can use setups that do allow them to shift. Buddy Baker was talking about it on the Late Shift on Sirius/XM NASCAR channel earlier this week. IIRC they were talking to Mike Ford (Hamlin crew chief) about it. The gearing is pretty tight so they don't go nuts with the spending but it seems that NASCAR listened to the teams and the fans on this one.

Worst race of the year in my opinion. My friends call it "the 24 hours of Pocono"I really wish they'd cut the Pocono races by 200 miles. 500 miles is excruciating to watch. At least I can switch over to F1 for awhile.

I have no love for the Charlotte 600 miler. Too long, generally too many cautions--I can't recall the last time I watched the whole race, even on tape delay. Although I, perversely it seems, enjoy Pocono, more 400 mile races, at this and several other tracks, wouldn't hurt my feelings.

I too perversely like Pocono and look forward to your presence in this thread on Sunday.

So we might see the drivers shifting this weekend?
The consensus seemed to be if you weren't going to set your car up to shift, you probably weren't going to be competitive. We'll see.

i bet they loved how PK passes, so they gave him a chance to show more of his skilsLost a bunch on the pits, but I think maybe some short fueled, the 18th? The leader may be tight on fuel and spent a long time refueling, maybe so did Piquet? Or maybe they just messed up.

I LOL'ed, but PK has been hell on restarts this season. Another caution period generally is good news for PK.

The ARCA race last night was called due to FOG.
Reminder: don't talk about the F1 race, I'm sure many of us are planning on watching it later.
