Hey all, Trucks in Texas Friday night, the Cup stars take on the triangular Pocono race track.

Known for producing boring races, the track itself is unique--with an irregular triangle shape, there are three distinct corners and the setup is always a compromise. There are also different surfaces at different temperatures (the "tunnel turn" is so named because the tunnel to access the infield runs under it) so it's quite tricky.

It used to be said that it's the track that races most like a road course, but that was before the gear rule. Before the gear rule, drivers actually changed gears during green flag conditions. IMO it's a shame they don't do that any more.

By the way, congratulations to Clint Bowyer for winning Tony Stewart's Prelude to the Dream charity event in Rossburg, Ohio last night.

I like this track, although it does seem that if someone figures out the setup he can walk away from the field. But I appreciate the fact that the corners are different and it's not just another 1.5 mile oval.

No Cup guys in the Truck race with Brian Ickler in the 18 and David Mayhew in the 2 at Texas.

The Cup race starts at the same time as the F1 race :well: But looking at the bright side of life, that gives a very good excuse to keep on watching racing cars when the F1 race finishes :)

I'm going to have to watch the Cup race, cos that gives me an excuse to download and watch the BBC feed of the F1 race!

NO TALKING ABOUT THE F1 RACE RESULTS IN THIS THREAD

They recently changed the rules so they can use setups that do allow them to shift. Buddy Baker was talking about it on the Late Shift on Sirius/XM NASCAR channel earlier this week. IIRC they were talking to Mike Ford (Hamlin crew chief) about it. The gearing is pretty tight so they don't go nuts with the spending but it seems that NASCAR listened to the teams and the fans on this one.

I really wish they'd cut the Pocono races by 200 miles. 500 miles is excruciating to watch. At least I can switch over to F1 for awhile.

Worst race of the year in my opinion. My friends call it "the 24 hours of Pocono" :D

I have no love for the Charlotte 600 miler. Too long, generally too many cautions--I can't recall the last time I watched the whole race, even on tape delay. Although I, perversely it seems, enjoy Pocono, more 400 mile races, at this and several other tracks, wouldn't hurt my feelings.

Not to mention the Charlotte 600 miler goes too late into the night.

I too perversely like Pocono and look forward to your presence in this thread on Sunday.

So we might see the drivers shifting this weekend?

The consensus seemed to be if you weren't going to set your car up to shift, you probably weren't going to be competitive. We'll see.

Report from Happy Hour on shifting. I had the practice on TV in the shop but the compressor was so loud I couldn't hear much.

Lost a bunch on the pits, but I think maybe some short fueled, the 18th? The leader may be tight on fuel and spent a long time refueling, maybe so did Piquet? Or maybe they just messed up.

i bet they loved how PK passes, so they gave him a chance to show more of his skils

I LOL'ed, but PK has been hell on restarts this season. Another caution period generally is good news for PK.

I think thats the second time tonight they have been onboard with, and talking up a driver, just as he crashes. The Murray Curse.

It lookedtp to me that Piquet jr really prepared to get past the 39, he built the momentum right, with the 18 too close for confort. The 18 has a great car now, got past.

Sauter pulled a David Ragan, apparently.

Too bad for Piquet, a top 5 would have been nice.

Just cought some "jolly fat dude" on Speed TV, doing a piece on Kyle Busch. It was a piss take obviously, but was pretty funny. The big guy was sat in front of a chalk board, dressed in a mechanics outfit???.....does the scene ring a bell? Would like to look up a few more of his pieces but did'nt catch his name.

probably cos it rained over night, green race track

caution on lap 8 for debris.

Montoya says it's great on exit but chatters the fronts real bad getting in,e sp. into turn 1.

staying out on this caution, P12.

yeah there are definitely some puddles on pit road.

The ARCA race last night was called due to FOG.

Reminder: don't talk about the F1 race, I'm sure many of us are planning on watching it later.
