I'll just go on record and say that this race should be 300-400 laps long.
225 laps just flies off like melted butter.
Greg Moore's first win came here at this track - I can remember exactly where I was, its astonishing really.
Really fun memories of this race, great racing the whole way round.
Also reminds me of Nazareth, which should still be around.

Knew I had that close to hand...

Danica Bitch-rick getting in Scott Dixon face after the race.
If I remember correctly, that would have been Dan Wheldon.

****er of a track this, well I remember it being a bastard on Indycar Racing II by Papyrus.
One of the all time great underrated games.
Loudon was the one that used to kill me. I could *not* keep the tires under me for a fuel stint. If you got the setup right you could 4-wheel drift your way around Nazareth. You burned the tires off like matches but you had such a lead it didn't matter how many pitstops you made.

In ICR2, I had no problem with Milwaukee or New Hampshire -- Nazareth killed me (never liked that track, as it was too narrow)

The Milwaukee Mile had serious organization problems...they lost a NASCAR race due to failure to pay some fee, then they reorganized or something
right?
The promoter went out of business sometime in 2009, leaving both the IRL and NASCAR without their sanctioning fees.
The circuit's officials had to settle the debt which nearly put the track out of business.
Hope that it's all permanently sorted now as it's just wrong for The Mile not to be proudly featured on the calendar of any US-based series...

I was using a keypad so i sucked at it but yeah Louden was a ****ing nightmare. I always felt hooked up at mid Ohio and Elkart Lake but yeah louden and Milwalkie, jesus what a pain in the arse. nazareth i would get loose into one turn and understeer at the opposite end of the track, I could never get the hang of it.

In real life, I remember sometime around 1996/7 and I think Greg Moore and Al Jr. going about 10 laps side by side in the middle of the race. Sadly I can't really remember who they were and when it happened.
Great track and great to have Indycar back there.

One of the all time great underrated games.
If it's the one I'm thinking about the attention to detail was extraordinary. At Road America's turn 8 the game showed two trees off in the distance as you made the turn, that I later stood under while watching a race there in person. They've since been removed for some grand track improvement, but I always thought if the game designers cared about those kind of things (two trees, not three, not four), that was pretty special. What I mostly recall about those Papyrus games was that I could drive a virtual stock car in the NASCAR games, but was pretty hopeless in the Indycar anywhere outside of Michigan and some of the larger ovals.

Anybody else, with better luck, attending both?
I just made arrangements today to meet up with 4-5 of my former CART co-workers at the Indy Car race. No RA on the schedule for me though. I'm looking forward to returning for a race at the Mile for the first time since Greg Moore won is first race in 1997. Always was my favorite oval to work.

Also - I just have to share this.

From the article - specifically from Tony George:
“I didn’t start the split, I helped end it,” he said.
“I am disappointed Randy hasn’t sought my counsel on things I am well informed on, but wastes no time seeking the counsel of people like Robin Miller,”
On the sale of IMS:
“If they are contemplating it, I would be disappointed if they didn’t offer me an opportunity to get in on the bidding.”
This guy is looking for a comeback and I think it can only happen if he buys the speedway altogether - which I have no idea how he would finance that.
I don't think for a second - and even if Bernard were to ever step down, would Tony be offered the post again.

Very excited to get back to Milwaukee. Love watching races from there. I think Texas shouldn't be so close to Indy 500. I think Eddie G likes it after Indy because he gets the pop for ticket sales. I think they will need to move this event to later in the year since it is a big event on the Indy schedule and it would help to spread them out.

Well obviously Tony George got great advice from Curt Cavin. He started it and he ended it. Sorry just a quick one.

It used to be the week right after Indy..
That was a better idea if you ask me.
Last time I went to MilwMile it was a ChampCar race and from what I hear my hysterical thread from that event is gone...
Oh well..You can imagine right?

Eddie Gossage at TMS basically demanded the date after the 500. Until this year The Mile hasn't exactly been on very stable ground and even now I don't know that it's not out of the woods. Long term TMS/SMI will be a stronger partner for the series.

I haven't lived in America for a while, but remind me if there are major sports running on Saturday afternoons? You can't run anything in Europe in that time period because that's when football/soccer is always on. But wouldn't it be better for everyone to have races on Saturday afternoon? You don't compete with NASCAR or the NFL, fans have plenty of time to get home, etc.
Makes sense to me Ross, plus you would then have Sunday for a rain date, if needed.

In the USA Sunday is always the "big day" for the major leagues of sports. So for example, football: Saturday is college football, Sunday is pros.I haven't lived in America for a while, but remind me if there are major sports running on Saturday afternoons? NASCAR: Saturday is the Nationwide series, Sunday is Cup.
Sunday is for the big time pro leagues. Going on Saturday might be not where they're trying to go with the brand.

Well, for this particular weekend you have the start of the college baseball World Series (go 'Dores), and the continuation of the PGA's U.S. Open. That won't be every summer weekend, of course, but on any given Saturday you can count on baseball, some golf, occasionally tennis, etc. It certainly wouldn't hurt Indycar to think about more Saturday events.

The question Anthony Schoettle (or someone!) should ask George is who he listened to. Who was it that convinced him that creating the IRL was the way to go? That's the (however much money both he and CART lost) dollar question.

Yep.
She's run every race except Brazil and is in 24th position, two spots ahead of Dan Wheldon, who has run one race, and four spots behind E. J. Viso, who is commonly reviled as the worst driver in the series. Beatriz may be a classy person, but there is no evidence whatsoever that she's a class driver.
