If there's a McLaren technical collaboration with a team such as Force India or potentially Virgin, they may stick Paffett into one of the cars as part of the deal.

Replacing hamilton.

I predict a very quiet and very sensible Gary vs Jenson 2012 thread. :D

I bet it will be Mercedes related. Outside of F1.

The virgin isn't a virgin anymore.... It's a MarussiaVirgin, and has been been banging up against a wall with a frisky Belgian.

That's about the only chance, and that's still a next to impossible chance because they have Hulkenberg.

Whatever happened to the Sutil drama anyways.

Good guess I'd say.

Not F1 anyway, he's slower than Pedro.

Really? If thats true then i'm gutted. Pedro was never 'lightnin' in his prime, nowadays its his experience that keeps him in the 'game'.

Paffett really slower?

You know Paffett holds the lap record round Rye House in a 'Max'?......

don't think Pedro does.

I wonder if he'll ever race in F1. For years now, I've spent the offseason wondering if anyone will take a shot on him, but I can't see it happening unless Button or Hamilton are injured for a race or two, and even then, you'd think McLaren might use someone like Hulkenberg or Grosjean instead, taking a clue from Ferrari's experiment with Luca Badoer.

Pedro said Gary had never been quicker in all the testing they did.

And Mac have a mountain of data on him, with no hint of a drive. So GT3 could be his spot I think.

i think he should ave at least had an F1 drive years ago and proabably between his 2005 DTM win and 2007 was his best shot
had it not been for all the media attention through hamiltons meteoric rise through EuroF3 and GP2, Paffett would have probably got the drive. Not saying he would have done what lewis did but an opportunity of a top drive nonetheless
rumous suggest its a link up from Virgin with mercedes or something or other. I'd like to see him in competitive machinary but even if he just gets into F1, it would be great.

Guess it is something with Virgin. Even though that will mean that Glock, D'Ambrosio or Wickens are out, that's sad as well.

thanks! that is interesting, riding in the Macca GT car sounds most plausible to me, having a go with the Virgin is also an option but unlikely given that Custard is making a good impression with the it.

So many (bad) puns, so little time.

There was an offer from Virgin for McLaren (or Mercedes but probably McLaren) to supply them the rear of the car in exchange of a seat for Paffett.

That is what Lotus did with Red Bull and Force India with McLaren but I don't think that a seat for Paffett would be enough. They will probably have to make some pay as well.

I've now got this image of Whitmarsh carrying the rear end of a McLaren up the pit lane, and Branson carrying a seat the other way... :rotfl:

The partnership makes sense though, and would be a dream come true for Virgin.

Sadly true. Although he certainly deserves an F1 seat, I don't think he'd be able to make a significant impression.

Deserves? Why?

If he was considered good\fast enough for f1 then he would already have a seat.

If he was considered good\fast enough for f1 then he would already have a seat.

His opportunity was overshadowed by the big moves of Alonso, Raikkonen and Hamilton. Thus he was sidelined into DTM and a second chance never came up.
