So, if Formula One returns to France...

If the "taskforce" is successful in bringing Formula One back to France, where should they race? Paul Ricard already received a nod from Fillon and probably is the most suitable track, but are there any alternatives? Where else could they race, and/or where would you like to see the cars race?

New track no way, existing track like Dijon no chance, Le Mans impossible and the HTTT doesn't have the infrastructure to hold a GP any time soon.
It's Magny Cours where the highway extension is now completed or HTTT with a very limited attendance.

Spa.
erm... you're about 70 miles too far north.
I agree about a new circuit - won't happen, too much money especially considering the state of the Euro right now.
Does Paul Ricard still hold AAA status ? or for that matter does Magny Cours ?

Ya, I was joking (been to Spa twice actually - awesome track, stunning location, traffic nightmare). The article suggests another possibility is to share a GP with Spa to cut costs.

Magny-Cours is a great track in my opinion.

I read the article with interest untill I got to the last paragraph.

I want to see France back on, and PR must be better than MC. Also if it actually helps save Spa, then let's do it.

You heard Bernie many moons ago when money was abundant,I've heard something about a Disneyland street race in Paris
Nowadays that's a pipe dream, you won't see a new F1 track in France for a decade or so.

They'd be doing some 30 laps only and there's a lack of run-off at several spots.I actually wish F1 raced around the long Le Mans circuit myself.
Not going to happen but sure you can wish or dream.
You've never been there I guessPau.

Spa.
Even if some sectors of France are trying, from what I know Belgium ain't part of France, just yet
Replying to the topic, hell yeah! France should hosts a GP, only that I hope it is not at the expense of anyother european race. Even if the action happens in the track I have a problem with Bernie giving GPs to banana republics or developing countries that still have a big portion of their population living in the dark. I just hope we don't suffer from another Bahrain stuff again, and I hope it as there are some other countries where this could happen. So better to remove one of those instead anyone from Spain, i mean Europe.

Pau.
I was tempted to suggest this myself. It would be like Monaco x 100...incredible spectacle, terrible race.

It's about 40 km from Marseille and about 40 km from Toulon. Easily combined with some Mediterranean fun.Paul Ricard is not viable. It has no grand stands, no Hotels and no city in the back ground. It would be as bad as Magny Cours lost in cow country.
That's certainly different from Magny Cours.

A good point of view which I over looked. But it still needs a lot of investment having no spectator installations. It is strictly a testing circuit only. It's about 40 km from Marseille and about 40 km from Toulon. Easily combined with some Mediterranean fun.
That's certainly different from Magny Cours.

In terms of France I guess it will have to be Ricard. Its a shame a for a country that started with such wonderful tracks as Riems, Rouen and Charade that these days the only contenders are such bland tracks. I'll accept Ricard if we can have the full Mistral into Signes though...

In the real world, I don't care, it'd be another GP close to me, and probably better than valencia and barcelona at least. Just so long as it doesn't displace Spa or Monza.

I would like to see a larger track layout.
But, yes, close to Paris.

Track wise, I struggled to understand the swap to Magny in the first place. We'd head down to Ricard each year, have some pretty good racing, big crowds, great atmosphere, lovely part of the world and it all felt, well - French (including the morning arguments with the paddock security staff).
Magny on the other hand is in the middle of nowhere with none of that atmosphere or positive feel about it. To me, if you're going to spend the money on a GP, you'd want it to show up some of the character of the host nation and Ricard definitely does that (or used to) - let them run the whole "old" layout with the full Mistral and Signes - now that would be pretty good. As for point re Ricard and lack of current grandstands - this is easily fixed for a big event with temporary structures, no biggie at all.
Le Mans Bugatti not really a proper GP track on my view - OK for F3000 or bikes but doesn't offer enough for an F1 car to really show all that it can do.

Magny-Cours was a really good and technical track, most suitable F1 track in the country (and I think it would probably be in my top 10 best European tracks).
I think the biggest issue is that, apparently, there isn't much interest in F1 from the French public.

They could change the circuit configuration every year. It would fit perfectly with the flip-flop nature of France as a country.

I chose Le Sarthe. Le Mans is the center of motor racing in France these days, it is a beautiful track and could be developed to make a great f1 track.
Paul Ricard is an emotional track for me, because I attended the grands prix there as a kid in 1975 and 1976. It was a magical.
But has anyone seen the current track? It has been destroyed since the Mistral is no more and has the ugliest paint designs imagineable.
Magny Cours simply has no chance because it is in the boondocks and f1 these days is filled with prima donnas.
A night race in Paris organized bythe same people who arrange Singapore is my vote.

That has never prevented Bernie from arranging a race, otherwise half the f1 races would not exist.
Years ago BCE said his ideal would be no more than 50,000 spectators all seated in covered comfortable grandstands at a grand prix.

paul recard with a layout thats very low downforce would be good imo, be another chance to see the cars trimmed out with there monza aero packages, rather than yet another medium to high df "balanced" racetrack
also, F1 would ruin le mans, and overshadow the 24 hours aswell. the spectator areas are WAY better at le mans than they are at silverstone, having a gp is a moneyhole for the paddock area while everything else stands still and isnt improved.

Run the full LeMans!
I agree but Bernie does not want such long tracks.
