The Historic Sporting Trial Asociation has been formed to provide suitable events for sporting trial cars built between 1952 and 1974.

Do you have, or know somebody with, an old Cannon, Alexis, Dellow or other trials special built to the old RAC National Trials Formula or 750 Motor Club rules?

Our aim is to run events for cars from the 1952 to 1970 era that are still in period specification and running period engines such as the 1172 Ford sidevalve and BMC A series.

We propose to have a separate class for cars built between 1971 and 1974 running on 15" wheels.

We are looking to hear from anybody that would have an interest in these events. At this stage, even if you do not have a car or if your car is not ready, do please contact Martyn or Ian whose details are below:

If you have any photos or cine film of Sporting Trialling (National Trials Formula) we'd love to hear from you.
We'd like to start to archive trials history from this period for our members to digest and hopefully jog some old memories along the way.
The Historic Sporting Trials Association already have an archive on Facebook. To find it search on Facebook for 'Historic Sporting Trials Association' and maybe come and join our group. We'd love have you along.

Just giving this thread a bump: the HSTA is holding its inaugural trial at Long Compton in the north Cotswolds this coming Saturday, 12th May.
There is an entry of 26 drivers in 20 cars, mostly Cannons, three Dellows, and a few other specials. It's a single-venue site, signposted off the A3400 in Long Compton.
The forecast is for a fine, even sunny, day - anyone else going?

That's not a proper trial - the sun is shining!

Nice to see the cars being used in the proper way, ie doing what they were built to do.

It was a wonderful weekend and our small organising team was overwhelmed by the support. We had a great turn out of cars and faces from the past , which considering nothing was even in place nine months ago, goes to show it was an event that was well overdue. We look forward to our organising our next event, so watch this space. www.hsta.co.uk

Alternatively if you're on facebook, we've got a mass of photos from past and present that are well worth a look. Search for us under 'Historic Sporting Trials Association' and ask to become a member. I'll be sure to add you to the group.

Many thanks

Mark Milne

This last Cannon is owned and driven by David Baldock. This is the multiple Championship winning Cannon once owned by Rex and Rene Chappel 'XXB 680' and is sympathetically restored.
This car featured in Autosport and Motorsport numerous times and even featured on their covers, proving how popular Sporting Trials used to be.
