Best-sounding race bike?

I know its a bit modern but I always liked the sound oF Honda's RC30 & RVF45

What about the sound of the Triumph and BSA triples in unison during the early Transatlantic series?

just asking whats was the nicest sounding racing machines you have heard.

for me the rawest sounding bikes i have ever heard would have be the 125 twin two strokes and the smoothest would be the rotary nortons.

but one that always stands out for me [not nostalgic yet i know] was the kenny roberts pre bigbang proton 500, a lovely sound which was both powerful and aggresive.

any unsilenced two stroke speaks for itself, when at the old tracks you could get close to them and listen to the note especially if mixed in with a four stroke [trying to keep up of course!]

I reckon one of the only good things about the change to diesels for GPs is that the fellas in the pit garages aren't going to be going deaf quite as quickly now that they don't have all the high frequency racket.
Reading your post, a picture sprung into mind of late one night working on Weiner's bikes.
1am, all quiet and not far off finished when some Spanish plonker starts his 125 outside the door and revs the piss out of it, as was the habit with the 125 guys.
After 10 minutes of this Howie was out there with a pair of sidecutters and the bloke only just got it shut it down in time to stop the throttle cable getting cut.
Racing 2 strokes, terrible bloody racket and the 125's the worst of them.
But the Honda 6..... now that's another story, that really was a nice noise.

I'm kinda keen on the MV 500 4 which I followed for 26 odd laps a t Salzburg way back when. Ears rung for days, but...all time great was the Honda 6 staring up in the Paddock in Assen circa 1980 and being knocked over in the rush to stand behind it running and say " oh my god ". The RG 500 pre silencers were bloody special as well

That must have been when Hailwood did his demo, i was lucky enough to see him and Ago do their demo around Silverstone in 1979, the racket echoing around the grandstands was tremendous.

was that the engine that has the gearbox the wrong way round and uses no internal bearings?

that's the one , rd , 6 reverse gears , had to have a tap on the shoulder when the flag dropped , was all OK until his ' helper ' had the hic-ups , resulting in several false starts

I did hear that the gearbox was developed from the Italians,who used to have a six speed reverse gearbox fitted to their tanks during the war...............
