news coming through is the CCRT guys are having some problems, i havent heard who or what but they are getting road blocked and apparently there are people who are demanding large sums of cash for "helping" them out.

just hearing there that the yachting and boating club uk are petitioning to be allowed to use 2 strokes again, at the moment its only the RNLI that can use them.

speaking to one of the off road guys today from america and he was telling me that in the 250 motocross honda stated to the FIM that if they allowed anyone on a 250 2 stroke to compete in the four stroke 250s they would pack up and quit, no discrimination there then!

all we can do is just keep fighting them and making ourselves heard and they will have to listen at some point, the 2 strokes guys dont want dominance, we just want to be able to race our bikes on equal terms and be given the chance to even race full stop, at the moment we cant do either.

well another year past, santas already on amazon in his y fronts for next years prezzies, (my conspiracy is he uses them to avoid paying tax :lol:) the world didnt end and we have a royal baby for you and the future generations to fawn over but the worst thing is we have had one informative post on the CCRT website all year.

beginning to think that this just aint gonna happen now, either that or they couldn't afford the broadband bill to keep us informed, tried to emal them but no reply :confused:

This technology was designed to end up in the 1997 Neon

Two-stroke engines have long been promising because of better fuel economy, fewer parts, better efficiency and a smaller engine package (about two-thirds the size and weight of conventional engines) that would allow for more design flexibility and lower hood lines.

Chrysler first began looking at two-stroke engines in the 1940s when it applied a process developed by Texaco -- a uniflow, opposed-piston, ported engine. Chrysler revisited the subject more earnestly in 1989.

"We purposely kept it small, about 20 young engineers, working in a focused, frenzied environment of creativity, much as a racing team operates," Allen said. "In fact, the culture created here was, in many ways, a forerunner of the platform approach to building cars that Chrysler has instituted."

Many people, including some within the company, thought the technology didn't have a chance. Tom Lawrence, engine development supervisor, was aware of those skeptics from the time he signed up for the two-stroke team in 1989.

"As good as the technology sounded, there were potholes along the way," Lawrence said. "People within and outside the company were saying it couldn't be done.

"For example, it was said we couldn't make the engine idle because it would violate the second law of thermodynamics. We couldn't come close to the Tier 1 NOx standards because the invention of a lean burn catalyst didn't seem possible. Some people thought we were wasting company funds at a time when they were scarce. I don't recall if we took those statements as challenges, just ignored them or really didn't know any better. We just carried on."

On the contrary, it may turn out to be one of the best research investments Chrysler has ever made.

"It was a great investment," Allen said. "Seven years ago, two-strokes were an unknown quantity to us. Now, it's one more piece of the technology puzzle we understand. Would we do it again? In a New York minute!


This is very similar to the infusion our Patriot program gave the hybrid electric vehicle development team. We took both technologies as far as we could and are now concentrating our efforts on those areas that appear to be most promising in the very near future."

The results from the two-stroke program include:

a direct injection fuel system that has promise for four-stroke applications.

a high-pressure fuel pump (capable of producing 2,000 pounds per square inch) that could survive the demanding environment of an automobile engine.

a mechanically-driven, centrifugal compressor, capable of spinning a compressor wheel at speeds of up to 1,400 revolutions per second, that could be used as a super-charger in four-stroke applications.

a roughly 10 percent improvement in city fuel economy over comparable four-stroke engines that delivers performance (128 lb-ft of torque).

Hi RD and a happy new year to you. Nice to see the Flat Earth Soceity is alive and well ! I would go along with you with the idea of all engine type racing but as you well know if it was set by capacity there's only one winner however if you made it set by BHP say 180 to 190 and a weight limit say 140kg and then you can run any type, any configuration and any capacity, then I would support it whole heartedly. Just think of the variety of bikes you would get based on this theme. It would be like GP two strokes meet WSB four strokes on a level playing field or am I killing the dream ?

Thanks RC (happy new year) for a good post and not going into this 2 stroke v 4 stroke rubbish, we both know that isnt the issue, not sure about the flat earth thing, i take it thats a dig :lol:

as we like to say, bring back something that resembles real racing, who cares what the engine type is.

an example that you have shown was the last lap of the motostar 2012 between a moto3 and a 125 at snetterton, brilliant racing.

i may come across as biased but the lies and stereotypes that are told about the 2 stroke racing engines are nonsense but believe me i would do the same for any type of engine that was being forced out that affected my sport that i have devoted my life to.

its just sad there are so many people who just dont care how its going and look at the old days while criticising the new but chastise people who are willing to put it out there for the sport.

thinking off hand remember the TTF1 british championship of 1988, 2 strokes, 4 strokes and rotarys and they all won individual races that year, or in otherwards a reason to get up on sunday mornings.

just like americas WERA series, nitros gp 250s, 500gp bikes and monster 4 strokes, funny how it was a success until they dummied it down.
