Ollon Villars

I recently purchased a sprite wich I am restoring. All information about the car can be found on www.cyberspot.co.uk . I have been told that the car was raced at ollon villars back in the 60' by a named Starley. I assume that this may have been between 1963 and 1970 . I wonder if someone has acess to the event pogrames and could possibly verify and send me a scan of them if it is the case. I assume that the car was racing in the 1000cc to 1500cc class(es) as it was sporting a 1098cc....any information would be of tremendous help for my restoration project. Also I know that it was raced actively in south of england at firle and brighton speed trials amongst others...if anyone has further information on this please contact me....

kind regards to all..

1300cc was the usual cut-off in those days

Hi Vince, this is great info (and website) many thanks for this...though i am left with an issue as both son and father were racing. Colin the son was usually driving my car as a 1098 cc whereas the father Lionel with driving and asutin healey which he grafted a lotus chassis and engien on it and usually raced as a 1300cc. Hopefully i ll be able to get a programme or search the local press...thanks again

Well i guess i have found a bit more about the car and a few pictures... :) here for all to enjoy....Pierre's Sprite . Thank you all for putting me in the right serach path...

if anyone had scan of programs for the following Hillclimb that would be great, I am also after the 1965 & 1964 programs if anyone had a copy of them. I have to demonstrate that the car took part in a pre 66 FIA event....

21/05 Montseny (Spain)
04/06 Rossfeld (Austria)
18/06 Mont Ventoux (France)
09/07 Trento-Bondone (Italy)
16/07: Cesana-Sestriere (Italy)
30/07 Freiburg-Schauinsland (Germany)
27/08 Ollon-Villars (Switzerland)
03/09: Gaisberg (Austria)

kind regards to all

A fascinating website, Pierre. Thanks for detailing your progress so clearly. I wish you well with rest of the build.

Thank you for your kind comments. Hopefully the car will be at the speed trials in September as i just received notice of it being accepted in the Handicap class. Of course this is assuming that the restoration is finished by then. A bit tight as we starting re-assembling the car next week...but doable...fingers crossed.

I have some hillclimb results (but some only of the GT class or over 2000ccm) from 65 and 66 thanks to Malthe Huth (Shelby GT350), which ones do you think your car was in? Maybe he still has the full programms listings.
There is a Triumph TR4 by Hans Sick and 2 TR3 by Kappenhauser and Jedamzik for example and 2 MGBs mentioned. No Olon-Villar programm though.
I have not read your race history fully, but might be of help, also with Dr. Eymanns archive (67 Mustang) from 67. Since I am not very knowledgable about Sprites, give me a hint on the races and I may connect you to both.

There seems to be a trace of that Mr Starley in the Ollon-Villars 1967 hillclimb. A guy running under the pseudonyme "John" entered a 1098 cc Sprite as a GT car, but was moved on to the Sports-Prototype category. He did three rather quick practice runs (5'47,2, 5'34,7 and 5'36,7), then a horrible 8'22,9 in the first race heat and DNS in the second, so he was not classified.

If a programme or result sheet scan is of any help to you, please tell me. But then you still have to prove that "John" is one of the Starleys.

Hello pierrefrogeye

Some things just take a little bit longer...

No problem, I'll do it. But I don't know how to put those scans here, so please send me a PM with your mail address.

I've asked this before - why would Rossfeld be an Austrian round of the EHC?

I can assure you that Rossfeld was a German, not an Austrian round.

It had something to do with the rivalry (or may be I should better say "balance") between ADAC (who organised the Schauinsland round) and AvD (who looked after the Rossfeld event).

Thanks Lutz for clarifying, I thought as much.

Pierrefrogeye - if you're still looking for results/programmes etc. the Buchwinkler brothers in Berchtesgaden might be able to help re Rossfeld. They are the proprietors of a VW dealership. You should be able to contact them here:
