Delightful. Thank you for the opportunity.

Respectable vehicles, for the most part; seems as if there is a high percentage of ungodly uglies. Delightful.

Wow...great stuff! The first seventy-five or so look to be photos from Portland and Pacific Raceways (Kent, Washington) from the early 60s. Would you like help with identification? Who took the photos?

Yes, a truly wonderful selection

But for those of us who weren't there, identification would make it twice as interesting

Most of these photos were sold through Ebay in small lots by two sellers. I got their permission
to post the photos once the auctions were over. I'm not sure of the venues but I do know that
some near the bottom of the page were taken at Watkins Glen. I thought the photos would make
a great page and that perhaps over time most of them would be identified.

Thanks for sharing

Staggering how many of those vehicles I do not recognise

Someone will have their work cut out identifying them all

Great shots! I would take up Vince's (raceannouncer2003) offer to id the cars-he has a long history with racing cars in the Pacific NW.
I think it is Merle Brennan in the E type coupe, Dave Ridenour in the Genie, Jack Nethercutt's Lotus 19 (?), John Riddel in the E Type roadster but I forget whose Ferrari sports that is--Vince?

.... I think it is Merle Brennan in the E type coupe....

I believe Merle Brennan ran in the SCCA Runoffs during my 12 trips to Road Atlanta in the '70s and '80s. Or am I thinking of Tom Brennan?

I should be outside cutting the grass...but...here are a few for starters:

#23, Pacific Raceways, 1963, USRRC, Mike Gammino, Ferrari GTO...I remember seeing the GTO's of Gammino (red) and Frank Crane (white)...love at first sight!
#211, Portland, Austin-Healey, don't know!
#32 Portland, 1962, Paul Woodruffe, Salem, Oregon, Porsche 1600
starter, Portland?, Cal Watson?
#32, Woodruffe again followed by Gerry Bruihl, Portland, Oregon, Fiat-Osca

The following link has some programs. The ones from 1961 and 1962 are helpful for some of these photos, and contain some interesting photos themselves (which I might identify later!)

Turns out the Allard about #110 down reg LLD 444 chassis J-2123 then probably belonging to Mr Delvin Lee, now belongs to an acquaintance in Florida. I'm afraid I have no idea where the pic on the etcterini site was taken.

Hey Art that's great news! Part of of the fun of creating this page from obscure Ebay listing pics was thinking
of the guys who own (or care about) the cars today who otherwise would probably never get a chance to see
these images.

Some more:

Car #7 - I just found this photo in Competition Press, June 27-July 10, 1964, page W-3.."Pierre Phillips (No. 7) (Lotus 27) goes through Circus turn on his way to victory in the formula junior event at the Rose Cup races. He also won the feature event (Robert Taylor photo)"
Car #78 - Portland Rose Cup, 1962, Ferrari 250TR59 (0768TR) (Jerry Grant), owner Dick Hahn to the right of the photo
Car #792 - Portland, 1964?, Jim Miller? "champion drag racing Cobra" is mentioned in the CP article on the 1964 Rose Cup.
Car #448 - Pacific Raceways, 1963, Pedro Rodriguez, Genie, winning the USRRC race
Cars #356 and #217 - Portland, 1964?, Gary Wright, Porsche 904, Sam Wood, Maserati 200S! s/n 2415
Car #9 - Pacific Raceways, 1963, Frank Crane, Ferrari GTO (see post #12)
Car #356 - Wright again
Car #71 - Pacific Raceways, 1964? Dan Odenborg (Odenberg?), Sceptre-Merc Outboard
Car #35 - Portland, 1964?, Dewey Harless, Lotus 20
Car #64 - Pacific Raceways, 1964?, Mike Eyerly, Porsche 904 (car shared with Wright that season)
Car #792 - Miller again?
Car #28 - Portland, 1964, Howard Jackson, Alfa Romeo TI
Two transporters (for Bjørn Kjer) - Portland, 1962...on the left, for the Hahn/Grant Ferrari...on the right, I suspect for the Rosebud team (I think I see their Lotus 19 beside it)
Car #14 - Pacific Raceways, 1964, Dave MacDonald, King Cobra, alongside Hap Sharp and Jim Hall, Chaparrals. MacDonald won the USRRC race, his last victory
Car #2 - Portland, 1964, Len Sutton, Corvette

Great collection. I love the second picture with the Austin-Healey going sideways.
I'm quite suprised to see a Citroen DS in a paddock shot about a 5th down the page. I didn't know they had them in the states.

The page is titled "Period SCCA Race Photos 2". The 1961 Rose Cup at Portland was sanctioned by the International Conference of Northwest Sports Car Clubs. The 1962 Rose Cup was again sanctioned by the ICNSCC, Professional Races at this event by the SCCA, approved by USAC.

Car #10 (actually car #102) - Portland? 1962, ex-Gurney crew chief Bill Fowler in the Jack Nethercutt Lotus 19 (955)
Car #78 - don't know where, 1963? 1964?, Bart Martin, Grizzly Torque Cooper Monaco-Chev Special
no number visible - Portland, 1962, Rosebud Lotus 19 (Pete Lovely)
Car #66 - Pacific Raceways, 1964, Merle Brennan, Jaguar E-type
Car #262 - Portland? 1964? Mike Fisher, Lotus 18 - please note the "FARE" sticker, Fred Armbruster Racing Enterprises, with picture of the Pete Lovely Cooper-Ferrari...so this is the ex-Lovely Lotus 18. On page 4 of the 1961 Rose Cup program, there is a photo of a Cooper...Pete Lovely and, I presume, Fred Armbruster with the Cooper after it arrived from Europe.
Car #47 - Portland, 1963? Lotus 7, don't know
Car #66 - Newport, Oregon? 1964 Brennan again
driver and lady passenger with checkered flag, don't know (looks familiar!)
"Course Marshall" - Portland? 1961? Jaguar E-type (the 1961 Rose Cup program advertised the E-type)
Car #356 - 1963, don't know where, Gary Wright, Porsche 356

Is the no71 car several down from the start, the Odenborg (sp??) the same car as the 750cc Mercury outboard engined H Bomb Special which we have on the cutaway thread? If so, makes a nice set pairing.

Thanks for identifying those Vince. I believe the E type roadster with the maple leaf shaped number background is John Ridell (Sp?) of Vancouver BC.

The no 71 car is not the 750 cc Mercury outboard engined H Bomb Special. Same builder. The H Bomb was 4 cylinders. The Sceptre-Merc outboard in the photo was 6 cylinders, 1500 cc, I believe. Quite a noise from both. I think the H Bomb is for sale now.

The E type roadster with the maple leaf shaped number background was owned and driven by John Razzelle of Vancouver, who later moved to Seattle. I remember his E Type thoroughly blowing up on the pit straight at Westwood...chunks of engine everywhere! Here is a photo of him at Spokane:

Cars #84, 27, and 317 - Portland, 1963, Don Shervey, TR3, Curtis Meade, TR2, Bob Daly, Porsche 356. Looks like Dean Beckley, Sunbeam Alpine, behind Shervey in the photo, and Russ Harness, MGA, in front of Meade
Car #161 - Portland Rose Cup, 1962, Dan Prades, Maserati Tipo 61 s/n 2463
Car #70 - Portland, 1964, Dave Pease, Triumph Herald

There is the good the bad and the ugly in that post and over about 20 years it seems too, but all quite interesting.
And oh so nostalgic!

Vince,

Do you know where I can find the photo from the 1961 Rose Cup program showing Pete and Fred together? We just acquired a piece that belonged to both of them, and am trying to find a close up of the FARE logo a bit better.

Thanks!

Hi Jacques

I received your email.  I forwarded it to Gary Gove, George Keck, and Martin Rudow, who might be able to help.

Please click on this link:

http://www.ferrariex...photos scca.htm

Then scroll down to a closeup photo of Mike Fisher in #262 Lotus 18.  I believe it is John Bradshaw helping him with something.  Mike Fisher and Pete Lovely were pretty close friends.  You can see the FARE sticker on the Lotus.

Also, here is the link to the 1961 Rose Cup program.

http://www.oregonscc...2804/pdf061.pdf

If you scroll down to the fourth page, it says Formula Cars.  Under Cooper, you can see what looks like Pete Lovely (and Armbruster?) with the shiny unpainted Cooper.  I don't see the FARE sticker there.

And on page 55 of Martin Rudow's new book "Pete Lovely, a Racing Life", there is a nice color photo of the Cooper on the transporter, which should be helpful.  Here is a link:

Thank you Vince, you've been more than helpful. I messaged Gary back this morning already.

Looks like the Cooper came into the country via a Constellation. Neat shot. I'll give Martin a ring and order up the book today.

Cheers,

Jacques
