He was second to Bill Strickler in a ten-mile main event at Pottstown's Mill Park in Pennsylvania on November 6 in 1920, and also third in a five-mile heat that day, his only results in my records. Apart from Strickler, Elwood Wolfe and Harry Reckstine were the best known drivers competing in that meeting.

Ireneo Meyer Correa da Silva was a top man in Brazilian racing in the '30s - abit of a stretch from Eugene Correnal?

Congratulations, Michael - you're the first poster on the sub-forum since it went "live"
Er... yes, thank you!
Don't really know what's going on, but I'll take the flowers and welcome cheque anyhow.

I think Michael's nailed it, actually: here's the Wiki page for Irineu Corrêa (in Portuguese, but I'm sure Darren has no problem with that!) which says he was the first Brazilian to win a motor race abroad:

Many thanks for the help one and all. That wikipedia link was actually one of the easier pages to read - I didn't need help with the translation for once! The page also confirms that he raced in the US in 1920, so it looks like we have our man.
