While I was at Goodwood FOS I took some pics of the Adams Probe 16 and was recently surprised to discover it was built at the Marcos factory in Bradford on Avon.

The car seen at Goodwood appears to be the same one as abused in the film 'A Clock Work Orange' where it is referred to as Durango 95, as in the book the film took its name from.

Towards the bottom of this link AB/4 can be seen at Brands Hatch does anyone recognize the driver ?

Does anyone know if an Adams Probe 16 ever raced ?

Relevant answers may be credited and used in a forth coming blog.

Thanking you in anticipation of your responses.

I used to race my Corgi version in my bedroom aged 8. Does that count?

This car was the paradigm of style over substance...

I knew that England is known for oscure kit-cars and small backyard production run vehicles but Adams was pushing it a bit too far.
Did they make any money at all?

On topic: just because there is some guy in racing overall and helmet driving one of those at Brands doesn't mean it ever raced. Might have been a test drive on a race weekend.

Edited to say that there is nothing on this Adams @ Racingsportcars.com

There are a few references to this car and the 'Jackie Stewart speed show' which was around the same period.

Could the photo have been taken to jazz up the car and allude to a racing pedigree?

The Racingsportscars site is slightly suspect, a random 5 minute look turned up
(1) Formula Junior Elva single seaters
(2) Eigenbau (German for "home-built") as a make
(3) It lists Elva-AJB and Elva-Butterworth as different cars. I suspect they are the same car, the Elva=Butterworth and there is confusion with Archie Butterworth's AJB single seater.
(4) The same photo appears under several races suggesting a bit of guessing going on

The site is clearly run by someone with more enthusiasm than knowledge. It is, well, OK as far as it goes but cannot in any way be considered definitive. I would say that inclusion there means that something existed but not necessarily as described, and non-inclusion is more likely to mean the compiler doesn't know about it.

The track picture (no spectators) suggests a mid-week shot. Ray Allen worked as an instructor at Brands...

Belated thanks, been having a few intelnet connectivity tissues, to MCS for identifying Ray Allen for my Probe 16 blog.

I am aware RCS is not definitive, every once in a while I find my self attempting resolving some of the gaps in Martin's site, not sure how he could have undertaken such a project, as someone observed in the Lotus 19 case history thread sometimes you have to bite the bullet and put something out there, I am glad Martin bit that bullet, if something gets shot down in flames it can always be amended, to which Martin is always amenable.

It's either Scott or Virgil Tracy, always get confused between the two.

You obviously didn't pass your Supermarionation 'O' level cheapracer other wise you would remember it was the hot headed Alan Tracy who was the racing driver of the family as revealed in 'Move or Your Dead'.

Enjoy the refresher course ;)

Could not agree more, the work Martin, and many others have undertaken is immense and he is always open to corrections if needed.

MCS is correct, certain its Ray Alan, if you look carefully you can just make out Lord Charles in the passenger seat. ;)
