Prescott postcards July 1947

I found these 3 postcards at a local village antiques fair this morning. They are marked "Prescott 20.6.47"

I don't have the Prescott programmes for 1947. Could anyone identify the cars and drivers, please? -

Is this a Delage? The number may be 68

Race number 80

ERA number 78

The top car is I think the ex-Dick Seaman car.

The ex-Seaman Delage was in bits in 1947. I suspect the pic is of Dick Habershon in one of the cars built up by White Mouse Garages in 1937 (which is the car that would get an ERA engine for the 1951 season)

The second car looks like one of the Dobbs Rileys, but may be another Riley-based car

I wonder about the date, as 20 June 1947 was a Friday and there was an event at Shelsley the following day.

Dick Habershon in his 1 1/2 litre Delage (certainly not ERA-engined)

Race number 80

Francis Penn in the Blakes of Liverpool Riley

ERA number 78

Bob Gerard in ERA R4A (or it should be - for some reason I cannot view this photo)

Nostalgia indeed! 1947 was the year of my first visit to Prescott. I was not quite 6 years old, so not much given to technical stuff, but I do remember the noise, the smell, and being fascinated by twin rear wheels.

The Delage is surely one of the Chula chassis? Later to get an ERA engine, but not then. Or am I confused again?

CiroMenotti is correct I think.

The car certainly looks like R4A in 1947 ( sloping radiator, colour, rear radius arms, twin body coloured wheels etc ) and looks like Bob Gerard's distinctive helmet style.

There is a photo of the same car in Weguelin's book displaying No. 28 as noted by David, captioned as Bob Gerard, but the driver has a cloth cap. The number is displayed on the lower section of the radiator rather than painted on the mesh and there is a lack of spectators - perhaps a practice shot with Mays driving.

Definitely R4A - but the picture in Weguelin looks more like it was taken on Main Straight at Shelsley to me.

I'm sure it is. One of them did (No.6 becoming the ERA-Delage)
No.5 remained with a Delage engine

The ERA-Delage had a distinctive shallower tail
