Mike, I think the exact quote was 'If you ain't American, you ain't ****' to which some wag replied 'so if you ARE American you are....????'
As I recall of course... :D

I had posted this on another thread , but it belongs here really ... No disrespect meant of course  to a man who once was a brilliant rider ( although seemingly not a very sympathetic person...)

Since we mention "Little John"....I can't resist showing you something that Hubert Rigal posted on the french pit-lane.biz forum . In march this year, Hubert went to spend a few days in the house of one of his former racing colleagues ( I was going to say rivals, but that would be pushing things a little ) , a beautiful ranch in California with a garage full of 500cc Grand Prix bikes, a private dirt-track, etc.... The former colleague in question had the picture below in his workshop....and he told Hubert that the character in the small pic was indeed the same as the one on the bike. Anyway....

A scrambled and tortured soul he may have been, but Little John pulled out some amazing rides from time to time, and whether on a 250, a 500 or a Superbike, was as stylish a rider as I've seen, really looked superb on a racebike.
And in a way, it's kinda nice to think he's still at it, because these days it would be for the love of it, rather than the reward...

Perhaps one the most bizarre talents ever to gtrace the GP world.

Came at a time when his team boss and mentor promised him the world and then basically saidf If you cant ride it like Wayne we aint gonna change nothing)

I feel if John had been around 10 years after he was he could have been a multiple big class world champion as if a bike as designed around his style he could have beaten anybody!

But fair play, he rode the RC45 when no one else had done much with it, but his comeback to 500;'s was strangely average on his beloved Honda (at the time)

A great rider of the big bikes but an absolutely brilliant rider of the 250's, Kocinski v Biaggi with a splash of Rossi would have been ace .
