The Buddh International/Jaypee International/Tilke thing circuit being used for the upcoming Indian Grand Prix isn't the first permanent venue in India for motorsport. Apart from the recent Kari circuit, as well as Irungattukottai, airfield circuits were in use well before this.

Sholavaram Airfield was first used in 1953, and was just over a mile long, later being expanded to host the Madras Grand Prix. Also used were Juhu Airfield, Barakpur Airfield, Yellahanka Airfield and Kolar Airfield. Details are somewhat hard to come by, but can anyone fill in the details - when they were used, layouts etc?
