I'm seeing three banner adverts on the forum at the moment that appear to be of a very low quality/trustworthiness compared what I normally see here.

One says something along the lines of 'You've a new message. Click here to read it' and nothing else, trying to encourage me to click a link I've no idea where it goes.
Another says 'Download' and 'Play Now' in big letters with a timer counting down next to it. Again, no product, just an attempt to get me to click.

Are these normal or have some rogue adverts slipped in somewhere? They're the type of banner advert I expect to see on a torrent site.

I just noticed a jiggly type one which isn't the norm -

Congratulations ! You won the happy hour contest

I'm not even risking a screen shot let alone clicking on it.

I think they must be targeted ads as I'm only getting good quality banners from reputable companies. Maybe you two should stop surfing porn sites.

I don't surf porn sites
Sometimes the banners are good quality ones from reputable companies as I had most of the morning - but the jiggly one is back again now.
I'll do a spybot scan on my comp in case there is an issue with it.

I've done an 'up to date' spybot check and nothing untoward was found
Still have the jiggly banner as previously described.

There's also sometimes written code that takes up the top part of the banner.
Have just seen

_ADXPOSE_PREFS__ = { uid: "amRZRPmRXMjwy5CP_14135690", vchannel: "243", cid: "Adorika AEM", pageurl: "", publisher: "", version: 2, override: true }

Am just trying to help here :)

Yeah I'm disappointed to see these ripoff ads on Autosport  .

Pretty stupid when your brand depends on perceptions of integrity.

The ad's are provided by a third party and are targeted. As I run an ebay business most of my ad's are for ebay... which is a bit daft when you think about it, as I already spend most of my time on the internet there!

Latest jiggly type ad reads

You are the 999,999th visitor Congratulations! Click here for a chance to get an iPhone*

* loyalty program T & C's apply

I doubt if there are any posters on this forum who would be convinced by the 999,999th visitor claim

You think? Given some of the opinions that I've seen expressed here, I reckon there are plenty!

Google Chrome and decent security software = no dodgy banners

Not too sure what that means - but I've deleted my internet history...and I've still got the jiggly 999,999th visitor banner.
Perhaps a call to the advertising trading standards is called for ;) since obviously the banner ads are telling fibs :p

eta - obviously anyone to do with this site isn't interested as this problem has been going on for some time. So I guess we're expected to ignore it as well - instead of us thinking we're helping them.

Deleting your history won't do anything, you need to clear the cookies.

Or just get an ad blocker.

Recently I've been looking at expensive wallpaper, and have been visiting a wallpaper site. Now all of my adverts are from this site. Which in itself is a little creepy, but at least the adverts mean something to me now, rather than random **** and blatant spam ripoff schemes. If you don't like the decade old adverts, I suggest that you spend more time internet shopping. :)

That's because they don't have any control over it. It is in your computer that the problem lies., Clear your cookies and block pop-ups and ads. Surely you have some security software?

So you're saying Autosport have no control over what appears on their own website?

No, of course not. And that's not what I said anyway.

I am saying that Autosport have no control over what appears on your computer. They are not putting these banners onto it, they are coming from elsewhere due to people being sloppy about their computer security. I do not get any banners at all on the Autosport site.

This has nothing to do with internet security, sloppy or otherwise. It's about the ad inventory, controlled by a third party, being outside what is considered the normal quality level for the forum.

And in this case either they aren't reading the thread or don't care.

I didn't think it was my comp that was the problem - I'd already done everything I could to isolate it as the cause. I still try and help even if it's a lost cause. :well:

Maybe they've fixed it, because you're only going to see certain ads. Everyone else will get stuff specific to their region mixed in with the general stuff like F1 Racing and the oil company rankings.

Because everyone pitching a bitch so far is viewing from the Britain.

btw by third party ad inventory I meant who supplies the banner ads, not targeted stuff based on your browser history. Which is another level of discussion entirely.

Think you might be right, for the last day or so I've only seen legit companies in that infamous top banner.

Also happy to report that the banners have been OK for the last day or so ( approx 24 hours).
If we whinge about them - then we should say when they're OK again.

Would have been nice to have had some comment from Haymarket though - I think a few of us feel we're doing their job for them and a thanks wouldn't go amiss.

I get the targetted adverts, so at the moment I just got a play.com one and currently on this reply screen it's an advert for the mobile network '3'. While obviously my porn comment was in jest I have fount I got 'dodgy' adverts from Autosport after I've been visiting places like torrent sites.

If I notice it again I'll see if I can replicate where I went beforehand, although not that anyone from Haymarket seems to care anyway. ;)

Understand and entirely sympathise with the need to earn ad revenue, but could you PLEASE spare us the idiotic and very irritatingly blinking
"You're the Nth person" ads currently infecting the Fora???

It's hit a new low recently, with the "You are the 100,000th visitor" flashing banner complete with stupid-ass voice congratulating the unlucky listener.

If this continues, we will need a revolution.

I got one of those when I was logged out by accident, did a bit of a double take, those ads seem a bit gimmicky/low for AS.

That one is making rounds all across the internet, but mostly on torrent sites and the like. I'm honestly surprised to see it here... Also a bit upset because now I'll have to browse with my volume off.
