For the moment we haven't contemplated what language they've used to convince the ACO this is legal.

http://lendurance.co...ascal-vasselon/The first, and perhaps most obvious, point put to Vasselon was a simple one. How are the rear winglets legal?
“It is simple – it’s not a rear wing,” he grins. “The rear wing is as per the regulations, what you see on the side… It’s just the wheelarch.”
“It’s just, I would say, a clever understanding of the regulations. We must have openings on the wheels, so we have designed a wheel arch that means, when the hole is open, it looks like that. Simple. It is just doing things differently. When you open the wheelarch, it has the shape you see. The ‘winglets’ you see are the rearward part of the wheelarch. Nothing prevents you from adding a second endplate.”
Does the winglet touch the main rear wing’s endplate?
“Yes, they touch. The wheelarch is connected to the endplate. You have the rear wing, with its endplates, then the wheelarch, then a second endplate. It is one structure, all across the rear end of the car. We have just been playing with how wide the trailing gauge of the wheelarch is. It is unusual, but legal. A clever reading of the rule, doing things which are possible.”

When did LMP aerodynamics turn into F1 circa 2007?
Since TMG got down to the task of developing a LMP car.

Even non-winning F1 teams are full of clever chaps.
I imagine Mercedes GP could also be very competitive too reborn as a LMP constructor without pesky rivals like Red Bull and Ferrari!

Seems very daft considering the high volume of people here and that all tickets are roving anyway so no need for extra security.

On a related note the rumours suggesting a Honda works effort for next year are presumably just to get operations in place for development of a 2014 car, so have to wonder if they will bother with a new car or develop the current CFD only HPD car for 2013. Equally with Honda having sold their F1 facilities to Brawn you have to wonder where they'll base their development efforts - Toyota use their F1 tunnel, and Audi use the Sauber tunnel - will Honda look at renting a tunnel from a F1 team with multiple tunnels, whether their old second tunnel at Brackley, or the McLaren Applied Technology tunnel? If other rumours are true (F1 engine supply return) they may even start a more formal relationship with McLaren.

Toyota claimed its first FIA World Endurance Championship victory at only the third time of asking with an emphatic performance at the Sao Paulo 6 Hours.
The solo Toyota TS030 Hybrid driven by Nicolas Lapierre and Alex Wurz held the upper hand over the two Audi R18s throughout the race on the way to a one-minute victory.

The race events were reported on the home page of Autosport. If you skip that to go straight to the forum you're gonna miss a lot of things.I need to pay better attention - didn't even realise this race was on.

Is that photoshopped? Nobody has a head that big, even after winning a race.
Toyota were lucky with the safety car, would they have won otherwise?

Yes. Just re-listened to the race today, they gained 3 laps on a stint of fuel and about 15 seconds on the lead gap, but they won by about 65 seconds. Without the SC it would have been closer, but the Toyota would probably have still won.
#132
Posted 18 September 2012 - 23:41
Yes, Definitely. The gap was around 15-20sec between the Toyota and the first Audi before the Safety car. The SC entered between the two cars and then the gap was around 40-45sec (half a lap).Toyota were lucky with the safety car, would they have won otherwise?
In the end, Toyota won with a 1min gap but Audi was more than a lap down before Toyota did a quick stop for fuel 10 or 15min before the end

Good that they're in fighting spirit after Peugot's shock announcement. Good to see the season ending on a high note.

How exciting would it be if the Glickenhaus Ferrari prototype comes through and hits the track as well?!?!?

Oh. Rather inauspicious end of the diesel era in sports prototype racing, then. Almost... quiet.

Anyway, I'm thinking of boycotting Bahrain - for obvious reasons. Just because it's not GP does not make it any less dirty. Yes it's not used as a direct political tool but that's because you would never get the same amount of publicity with sportscars

Just had to quote for such a pretty lady The sharkfin on that actually doesnt look THAT bad either
Shush yourself already Give them a chance! If the car comes about, and it has any pace to it, who knows what Luca might do........

This is the first car where the fin isn't what I see first. The Audi and Toyota look funny with it. I see a face on this girl with those long, soft eyes and grill lipsI'm sorry, but when the very first thing you see looking at that sketch is the sharkfin, then it is very clearly an aesthetic abomination.
Neil
I'd rather ax the fin altogether though so I hear you

The R18 hybrids are diesels too... so end of nothing. Also, on the official FIA Bahrain entry list is still shows the second car as Ultra so maybe EI knows something we don't.
Oh, okay. I'm not particularly well-informed about sports car racing 2012. As you can see.
Anyway, I'm thinking of boycotting Bahrain - for obvious reasons. Just because it's not GP does not make it any less dirty. Yes it's not used as a direct political tool but that's because you would never get the same amount of publicity with sportscars
There won't be any government campaigns proclaiming the country to be UniF1ed, at least. Although the timing of the Six Hours to coincide with the implementation of human rights reforms, which are either going along swimmingly or feet-draggingly. Take your pick.
Or alternatively, you could consider the opinion of the upper house of the Bahraini National Assembly, entirely picked by the King:
The council added that setting up a human rights ministry has undoubtedly proved Bahrain's keenness to tackle any human rights violations.
It hailed the strenuous efforts made by Bahrain's delegation and their success in highlighting the truths and evidences about the situation in Bahrain wisely, objectively and competently.
This success, the council said, has been able to change the false image given about Bahrain and debunk allegations aimed at tarnishing Bahrain's reputation and its prestigious international status in protecting human rights and freedoms.

And it looks like a Ferrari.
That's because it's looks remarkably much like the P4/5, but in P1 form. And P4/5 is basically a modification of the Ferrari F430
But as I said, Ferrari itself will have NOTHING to do with this.

Wow, if that car races against Porsche in LMP1 in 2014, I'd kill* somebody to watch the race at the track!
* NOTE:
Obviously I would not harm anybody, it's just an expression

14 April // 6 Hours of Silverstone
04 May // 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps
22/23 June // 24 Heures du Mans
24 August // 6 Hours of Sao Paulo
22 September // 6 Hours of Austin (ALMS separately on Saturday)
20 October // 6 Hours of Fuji
10 November // 6 Hours of Shanghai
30 November // 6 Hours of Bahrain
Not too surprising but IMO very disappointing... mostly dull tracks again and no 12h events, plus that stupíd 2 month summer break is still there. I almost forgot that there even was a world championship this year after that ridiculous gap after LM... Wish they had gone to HTTT too.
Only really looking forward to Spa and Le Mans but that has nothing to do with the championship
