The 1962 French GP (GP de l'ACF) was held at Rouen on 8 July so I expect the photos are from then. There was no non-championship Formual 1 race there in 1963.

But number 16 does not appear in the 1962 GP results so it could be in a supporting race. Or the photos could come from a non-F1 race in 1963.

(Twinny, if you see this can you change the thread title to include "Rouen 1962 or 1963")

This is from the formula junior race at Rouen in 1962. The driver is John Love in Ken Tyrrell's Cooper T59-BMC. He was not classified at the finish, but is listed in 17th place.

Sorry, that's not a Cooper, it's a Lola Mk 3:

I think the driver is Bill McGowen, who finished fifth in the 1961 FJ race at Rouen. Full results on Stefan Ă–rnerdal's site:

Or, more correctly, Bill McCowen :)

Thanks, David

(In my defence, Bill's name is misspelt in both of the sites I linked to above)

Or, more correctly, Bill McCowen :)

I thought McGowen was a misspelling of McGovern, i.e. Irishman Bill McGovern who became British Touring Car Champion in 1970, 1971, 1972. And I advised Wolfgang Neumayer from formel3guide.com to adjust his data accordingly.
Now, who is Bill McCowen? Is he identical to the bobsledder?

Age looks about right

OTTOMH, our man made his name in prodsports - with an AC-Bristol? - before proving an above-average FJ driver
