From Snetterton: Toby St George Matthews ran an ex-works T86 Cooper-Maser (F1-2-67)

Purpose built F.Libre car was I think a very rare event. Most of those listed not FF or F3 were F2, F.5000 or F.Atlantic.Some which only ran in F.Libre may have ben built for Intercontinental formula 1962 which never happened. In the BOC race, without going through one by one, it seems most were either purpose-built libre cars, or F3 models

Chevron B17B and B17C were also libre (or FB) variants

Most of these were regular libre cars. Thompson's was ex-F2 but now with a FVC and most of the others were twin-cam cars that might have been technically eligible for F2 but can't really be seen as F2 cars. Wright's Emeryson is the one real mystery car in that group.EVENT 7 BOC FORMULA LIBRE 10 LAPS

I agree with David that cars were built specifically for libre racing even if it was rare for a whole model of car to be designed for libre. At least two Lotus 22s and at least one Brabham BT6 were sold with larger engines for libre racing. The twin-cam-inspired 1600cc category of libre racing then developed from 1963 to 1965 and was formalised in several parts of the world - in the US in 1965, in Ireland in 1967, in Europe for hillclimbing, in Australia and also in South-East Asia - so some cars were built new with twin-cams. A Lotus 27 might have been the first but then came the 1964 Brabham BT14s which were mostly sold to British libre racers. Then, with the growth of FB in the US, we saw Brabham BT18s, Lotus 41Cs, Brabham BT21As, Chevron B14s and so on. The 1967 Crosslé 12F was another such design, intended for the 1600cc class of Irish racing but also sold to the US for FB.

I'm pretty sure you're right about Mike Irons as well - he was a Monoposto regular in the mid-seventies.

Yes, yes and yes. And yes. Very useful entry list especially because - as you say - Aston rarely appeared in that B16. BTW, the race was won by John Wingfield in a Brabham BT30.Silverstone 14th March 1971 NSCC

Gubelmann had a 71BM that he used in British Atlantic early in the season and then in Formula B in the US. He had various names for his car - his favourite later in the season was to call it a 712M. Anything for a bit of extra start money I guess. Is this a typo in the entry list? I don'trecall a 711B.
