You probably saw one in the early '70s at Oulton, Pete. I believe this Georg Kjällgren-owned example is the car campaigned in Britain and Europe by Jeremy and Peter Richardson.Daren Mk 2. I can't remember having seen one of these very pretty cars before, although it's a shame about the yellow pipes.

Very quiet on the Donington front here so here's an Imp's eye view of the under 1600cc saloon race :

Tuna with Branston?
Has Arron just farted?
No, he's in Oz. Must be Dellboy up at the Old Hall box.
Good Grief!.. i cant co anywhere and i get snapped!
Well I had a death burger from the Avenue Caravan which may have been some cause of concern, although I'm indebted to Edington Mains for giving me a lift at the end of the lunch break to get the spare camera battery I'd left in my car.
No worries Alan.. im too bone idle to wander the track so a cars the way!
Was going to post some of my pictures, but seeing as i was stood by you two all day we have some great duplicates
Then i thought "what the heck!"

There`s a lot for the guys to do with a bumper turnout expected for the Silverstone Classic aswell. As far as I can work it out, the HFO is slowly but surely fading whereas the Masters F1 scene is growing (same cars & drivers in both most of the time!) but money must call the shots as far as GP support goes. They`re saying 2 hours on track action at the GP for HFO which breaks down as half hour practice, 20 minutes qualifying and a 30minute/20 lap race.....hmmm?!!
Long gone are the days of The Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship, when they used to race up to 10 times a year with double headers some weeks (2 races in a weekend) and up to 50 different drivers over a season.
Are we heading towards a calendar made up of Historic Festivals like Donington/Silverstone/Brands/Portimao and the Masters Series doing a full year of various categories (at many great circuits)?....I think we are!!

IMHO, HFO should have booked Donington for a vacant weekend after the Silverstone Classic , as the Masters are off to Zaandvoort early September and are having the Finals weekend at Donny mid October . When will they start looking eslewhere for their cars to go. Time was about 15-20 years ago the Historic F1 cars raced at Thruxton, Oulton, Brands, Donington and Sliverstone travelling to the main European venues that hadn`t got a GP. Imola, Zolder, Paul Ricard, Zaandvoort all got races back then....now it seems they only get a race when there is no other big events on .
Maybe Jonathan Palmer should set up an F1 series similar to the old Aurora F1 Championship and use his circuits ....oh deary me .....I might have started something here ...whoops!

Nice idea - and nice photos, too.A few pics from Dijon, first round of 2012 french historic series with F3 classic (29 cars entered), FRenault, FFord and several sedans. An interesting demonstration called "Constructeurs sans patente", which you could translate in "unknown french constructors".

Michael Peet leads a gaggle during qualifying for the Pre '60 touring car race. (I believe the ice cream van spun off a couple laps earlier.)
The Neil Merry-Terry van der Zee Sunbeam Tiger heads Paul Chase-Gardener's Shelby Mustang on the approach to Quarry (a caption that might once have applied to Longridge, before they turned it into a caravan park).
Arthur Smith-Fitchett's ex-Rodriguez Rapier and, conceivably, the inspiration for TWR's many Rover SD1s (driven here by Charles and Victoria Beever, rather than Jeff Allam, Peter Lovett or Steve Soper).
Shine on you, erm, glorified VW Beetle: the Anthony Childs/Christopher Overton Porsche 356A heads Ian Cox's Marcos GT.
Geoff Turral-Simon Diffey in blue, Louise Kennedy in red. Exhaust-blown diffusers live on, perhaps.
Marc Campfield would make race meetings worth attending if he were the only driver entered.

A few more from Monday at Castle Combe (uploaded, bizarrely, from a Shanghai-bound Emirates A380 - don't know if that's a first for TNF, but it's certainly a first for me - I don't recall wifi ever being available on Boeing 727s or Douglas DC-3s)...

There certainly were, Eric. David McKinney, Roger Clark, Ted Walker and me to name but four.
Me too - sorry I missed you all.
I quite liked this little runabout:
And I'm a real sucker for a well-patinated Alfa:
Especially when it also goes well:
Don't recall seeing an Elva Mk IV for some time:
And the Dick Jacobs MG Special was also getting an airing:
All in all a very good day, though must confess I left just as the hail was starting - no dedication!

Me too - I was there to take my Step-father to see Ian Andrews lovely ex-team Bentley and also to lay some flowers on the outside of Luffield for my late father; it was seven years to the day that he passed away there
I took quite a few photos that I will post later and also I agree on seeing Hubert Fabri's Bugatti, stunning car that is well looked after by Tim Dutton. Also, it was great to see Ivan Dutton out and competing in his lovely little Lotus XI after his battles with illness last year.

Did anybody else see what happened at Brooklands on the opening lap of the first race? A crash helmet suddenly went flying across the tarmac towards the BRDC. My instinct was to look for the rest of a driver or a car spinning madly but I didn't see anything. I have no idea if the helmet flew off the head of a driver or whether it came out of a footwell (if that makes any sense).
I do have a question about one of the cars that was racing but I'll need to wait until I get home to post the picture.

Sorry, Suzy, I was out in the boondocks at Becketts for most of the afternoon, so no idea about the mystery skid lid/bone dome. I imagine you would have said if it wasn't empty?!

A great selection of Historic F3 cars, the 1-litre screamers, although sadly in these 'over the top' environmentally friendly 'noise reduction' times, you can't really hear them scream. But hey ho, great to see them...
My pictures here on facebook, no password required to view from this link. Still the best circuit in the UK. It has a bit of everything in its 2¼ miles.

Great photos, Andy. Thanks for posting.
Echo that -very atmospheric (and not just because of the moisture). Those 500s must have felt at home - I somehow always thought of Cadwell as a mainly bike venue, but may have to adjust my preconceptions.

Sorry to disabuse you, Suzy, it's actually from the 1990s! A modern 'special' built in the spirit of inter-war specials by Richard Scaldwell using a 1919 GN chassis and a 1908 JAP V8 aero engine, and driven with equal spirit by its builder. This is the car that has intrigued me so much. A couple of pictures of it "undressed" in the paddock and a picture of it on the track. I inspected it and found that it seemed to be made out of wood, had a piece of oak as the front bumper and had a beer barrel under the bonnet and one at the rear ;) ! I'm guessing it came from the era of the early 1920s.
