Di Resta a great driver? Have I missed something?

Of course he is a great driver. Hulkenberg and him are very equal this season and you can´t hype Nico without saying Di Resta is also a great driver.

He´s a DTM WDC and he was the best rookie last season. He proved he´s competitive with different cars and that talks about his talent.

If di Resta is not a great driver, what he is doing Nico is nothing special. Don´t know exactly how the fighting is on qualy and race teammate vs teammate, but should not be so different.

Hulkenberg has been out of action for a whole season, yet he's quicker than Paul after only half a season. Di Resta was comprehensively beaten by Sutil last year as well. Average driver who's overhyped by the BBC.

He´s a DTM WDC and he was the best rookie last season. He proved he´s competitive with different cars and that talks about his talent.

No wonder he was rookie of the year. He had the fastest car of all rookies.

You see Hulkenberg do exciting things during races, he overtakes people. You hardly ever see Di Resta in races. His qualifying performances have been pretty poor as well recently.

More and more doubts about should have Hulk gone to Sauber..

I dont think its as much of a lateral move as some say. I think Hulkenberg is better than Perez/Kobayashi and could show that Sauber to be better than those pair have. Also, long-term, it might be a safer alternative.

I also would like to see him at Ferrari in the future. Was a bit disappointed they didn't get him this year, but I can understand Ferrari's hesitation.

I hate seeing him going to Sauber. To be honest I think Sauber will be crap next year. Just looking at the 2nd half of the season and since Monisha "officially" took over the car has gone downhill. I think they'll be below Williams and Force India in performance next year.

Exactly. There's little between Sauber and FI at the moment, throughout most of the season Sauber were superior. This means next year only god knows which car will be faster from the box - slight favoritism for Sauber after their performances earlier this year - but with the massive advantage from Sauber that they're actually financially stable. It could even happen that FI have a good car in the beginning but no cash to develop it!!

The move could easily backfire but odds are on Hulk's favor. I think he's made the right decision.

Another good season next year in a midfield car and a top car could await in 2014

But good enough to beat Vettel in F3 when they were teammates

It mean nothing... Frentzen and Wendlinger were both faster than Schumacher before F1..

Anyway, i don't think Hulk move was bad. Sauber is a much better team and have a much better facilities than Force India. Sauber is a well established team, they can develop a car during a season, i don't think Force India will be able to do this next year.

I don't know why but i have the feeling that Force India will be in trouble next yaer,

Well it's the first time we've heard of their team owner being given arrest warrants for failed payments in his other companies.

I've been very impressed with Hulkenberg over the second half of the season. I agree with the poster above who thinks he will get a good drive in 2014. Maybe Ferrari or Red Bull.

He has certainly come of age. From being an adverage midfielder to performing some impressive converge and points collection, he has certainly placed himself at the front of the 2014 shopping window. However, a driver is only as good as their last race so things can go downhill from here who knows. Just look at how Perez has gone from everyone's golden child to the punching bag of 2012 H2.

That is two separate companies from Force India. Remember Force India are now faster than Mercedes and Williams. they have Mclaren facilities, equipment and services too. Plus, their developments have always been strong come the end of the year.

They're only faster than Williams if you include Hulk's incredible efforts recently. Still Maldonado is the one who could qualify in top5 in some recent races (Abu Dhabi, Singapore) and Force India's drivers couldnt'. Even in the last race you could see that Williams had clearly better pace but drivers failed to "survive" first corners inside top10 and that's why they've lost to Hulk.

Over many decades the history of F1 & GP racing has many examples of team owners and promoters being pursued by the law very questionable financial transactions and other issues. To give an example If Chunky Chapman had survived his heart attack he would likely have ended up as Fred Bushell's cell mate. http://www.grandprix...ref-busfre.html At Bushell's trial the judge stated if Chapman had lived longer he would have been sent to jail for ten years for "outrageous and massive fraud".

Man of the year.

To be really fair I'd say Man of the 2nd half of the year. Di Resta had better times all the weekend long but it was Nico who was faster when it mattered.

He took a few races to get up to speed with Di Resta, and I originally started to doubt whether all the hype surrounding him pre-2010 was indeed just hot air. Fast forward to Brazil, and the Hulk has very much outshone Paul in the last flyaway stage of the season. He also hasn't been making an ass out of himself by banging wheels with everyone around him, which has been the fate for an unfortunate few this year. If I were Martin Whitmarsh, I would be having some serious second thoughts right now.

Well done Nico, here's hoping for a strong 2013!

Well he did. He was by his own admission race rusty during the flyaways, but he has been the fastest Force India driver since Barcelona with the only exception of Singapore.

Let me quote Martin Whitmarsh's own words a bit.....haha

He's also not going to say that he's made an awful mistake.
I hope he thinks today that he's made an awful mistake and I hope he thinks that next year.
"He's made that decision and he has to live with that decision."

Force India relies almost entirely on Mallya's other groups for sponsorship with Sahara being the only non-Mallya cash injector, and they've been hit with a $4 billion fine in India.

I think they've done well with what they have but there's no doubt Sauber is better sorted in the long run. As a Sauber supporter I think Hulkenberg is a very good signing unlike the other guy they've just signed. Kobayashi and Hulkenberg would have been the ultimate midfield pairing but sadly we've been denied that spectacle.

Hulkenberg could have won a couple of races and he still wouldn't have been signed by McLaren. Same goes for Mercedes' golden boy Di Resta.

Ultimately McLaren are looking to tap into new sponsorship markets with their new driver. Perez gives them that, neither Hulkenberg nor Di Resta do. Whatever Whitmarsh says driving ability was a secondary concern.

Followed MS since his first F1 race. After announcing his retirement, I knew I needed someone else to cheer for, and thought Hulk seemed like a good choice.

Looks an even better choice now! Howe the hell is he only driving for Sauber next year...

The best he can hope in the future for is the number 2 seat in a Ferrari. But they're not that dumb. They didn't fall for Perez and they won't fall for this brainless driver.

Name: Nico Hulkenberg
Age: 24 (D/O/B:19/08/87)
Nationality: German
Current team: Force India
Career Highlights:
- 2009 GP2 Champion
- 2008 F3 Euroseries Champion
- 2007 A1GP Champion

Now that Germany's forgotten son has got himself back into an f1 race seat, can he remind the world of what he promised to do in f1 when he was coming through the junior series?

2012 will be an especially decisive year for him, given that he is pitted against another highly rated youngster in the shape of Paul di Resta.

Decisive indeed, has this year been.
And remind indeed, has he about what he promised us in his younger days.

Great drive Hulk. Looking forward to watching you, god willing, fight for many a victory in the years to come.

Great drive! Unfortunately, that one mistake was very costly. He lost the car in difficult conditions, but it I don't think it was malicious or overly optimistic. Looked more like a racing incident.

He seems to be special at Interlagos.

Brilliant race from Hulk until the mistake, it was his chance to get past and i dont blame him for trying, 2nd place is the 1st of the losers. Obviously he needs to make those kind of moves stick in the future if he wants a top ride.

A shame about the safety car really, him and Button had that race sewn up before that. He deserved to be on the podium today, though I don't think he would of win. One of the McLaren's would of got back past in either scenario.
