Nice. Better than his Williams helmet for sure.

Spent some time today watching the review of the 2010 season and even if the beginning of the season was so so there were a lot of times Nico showed true potential. I think he has "it". It will be very interesting to see what he can do.

That's how I saw it too, unfortunately he is still with a "wrong" team.

He was only 20 back then and BMW who wanted to challenge for the title thought that he wasnt ready enough for that challenge. Even a 20 year old Hamilton wasnt thought to be ready enough to drive for Mclaren when Coulthard was dropped.

Anyways, getting back on topic, I personally would like to see 'The Hulk' beat Di Resta in 2012 and secure a Mclaren or a Mercedese seat for 2013.

Well i heard at that stage in his career Kubica was the quicker option

We usually don't take an achievements in a lower series in a drivers' scorecard. But just look at what Nico has done in past years.. How can we argue about Petrov or Senna having more potential than Hulk?

The only reason of Hulk dropped out of the seat in 2010 - Williams's behavior and Weber's greed. Not Nico's lack of talent.

I dont think the Hulk greatly impressed apart from his incredible pole lap in Brazil, was bit of a surprise to see Maldonaldo do better than him given there previous record against one another

What myth? There's a video of Ron trying to talk down Schumacher after a fashion show.

Here's the link:

This video has been seen many times and presented as evidence. Not so.
Schumacher's retirement interview with Michael Schmidt of AMuS;
Q: "Have you ever considered driving for Mercedes again by joining McLaren?
A: "If I recall, Willi made some enquiries during 2005 but no serious discussions were ever held and no offer was ever made."

But let's stay OT.

As Maldonado is officially the worst rookie driver Williams have ever had in terms of points scored, its a stretch to say he did better than Hulkenberg.

Equally comparing Barrichello in 2010 v Hulkenberg & Barrichello in 2011 v Maldonado is not a fair way of comparison as Barrichello had one of his worst seasons in 2011.

The bottom line is, Williams wanted to keep Hulkenberg but had to take Maldonado's cash.

Well you can hardly blame him considering his Williams was completely rubbish. I doubt Hulkenberg or any other driver could have scored that many points in that car.

Maldonado - 1 x 10th, 2 x 11th, 4 x 14th
Barrichello - 2 x 9th, 4 x 12th, 4 x 13th

A battering.

Time to bring this thread from the dead.

Hulk is a really possible at Ferrari according to Bild-Zeitung.

I'm not sure it would be the best possible move for Hulk. The confrontation with Alonso at Ferrari can make him look worse than he actually is. I'm afraid he is still lacking experience to face one of the best and most consistent driver in the field who is a leader of a this particular top team for several years. This can make him a driver that nobody will consider him as a future 1st driver for a top team even if he isn't worse than some of those who will be considered.

But if Force India are in financial trouble, may he find out that Ferrari is his only option? This story reminds me Kovalainen at McLaren.

It depends. A contract lasting at least 2 years, would be a good option. If he performs better than Massa in the first year and close to Alonso in the second his reputation would go up.

Tough call. Do you take a one in a career opportunity and possibly ruin your career.
Heikki got well beat by Hamilton in 2 years and now he's bumming around at the back with little hope of getting a point and a more competitive drive in the near future, even though he's driven very well.
He'll likely get well beat by Alonso and then he has to find a team again.
Tough call

Agree. TBH today I consider that 2 seat at Ferrari as a career ender for any driver except for Vettel and Kova maybe.

For Hulk it would be much better to get into Mercedes. Or Mclaren - who knows. I don't doubt his talent, he just need more time to adapt for the team and car, but Ferrari will never let him fully come true.

Mercedes is a realistic option whenever Schumacher calls it a day. If Ferrari are indeed calling, then it's a rare opportunity which he won't get again unless he turns out to be a really quick driver. (Raikkonen turned them down, but he went there eventually)

Force India are a good team, and will most likely have a huge step forward next year. Even in their blip year they are still managing to get good points. So if he waits for an open Mercedes seat in 2013 then he's going to be in a good seat.

I think Hulkenberg is a bigger talent than Heikki, and even as a number 2 driver at Ferrari I think he'd find himself on the podium an awful lot, and scoring a much larger percentage of Alonso's points than Massa currently is, more in line with say Vettel and Webber or Hamilton and Button.

And if Lewis goes to Merc, di Resta to McLaren and Perez to Ferrari, he is screwed. The Ferrari is a once in a lifetime chance not to be missed.

Partnering Alonso at Ferrari would likely result in him getting comprehensively beaten, making him look bad and badly denting his confidence.

I don't see this happening, for me it's just another article to draw some attention. Why would Ferrari go for Hulkenberg? If they're looking for a young promise they're going for Perez wich is already part of their young driver programme and has to atleast be considered as good as Hulkenberg, but most people will even say he's better than him.

Hulk needs more than just one race to become visible. Right now he is on his way to become another Timo or Nick, slowly blending into oblivion. No one talks about him (but his fans), and one doesn't hear that he is on anyone's (luxury) list. I am not sure if DiResta is receiving better press than he deserves, but he gets at least on front page here and there. I was hoping of more from Hulk initially, and I hope Spa wasn't an isolated one-off fluke.

autosport print edition, the one after the hungarian race, a list from the "replacement of Felipe Massa" article:

1. Nico Hulkenberg
2. Sergio Pérez
3. Heikki Kovalainen
4. Felipe Massa
5. Paul di Resta
6. Adrian Sutil
7. Kimi Raikkonen
8. Jules Bianchi
9. Nico Rosberg
10. Jenson Button
W. Robert Kubica*
W. Lewis Hamilton*
(W = wildcard)

just sayin'

Is Ferrari's list similar? (It might be important, since I am very much in doubt that Autosport has anything to say whom they will choose).

I wasn't a fan of Hulkenburg prior to this season, but I like the guy now. He's doing a really good job and is clearly the better of the two drivers at Force India. It really irks me that the media is constantly yammering about Paul di Resta being the future when it's clear that Nico is just flat out doing a better job this year.

I am sure that di Resta is all but invisible in the German media, while Hulkenberg is a big story.

di Resta is the "future" due to his Mercedes tie-up, his options are probably more limited than Hulkenbergs but he is probably further up the queue for the Mercedes seat you'd think.

Anyway, I find Hulks performance this year is baffling. His early-season invisibility was allegedly due to rust and looked like a continuation of his 2010 season, but since Barcelona he has been the better of the two FI drivers. This is the sort of performance I expected to see in the Williams, but it's taken a while for him to flower.

It makes me wonder why he basically sucked in 2010, as it certainly wasn't due to a lack of preparation/mid-season replacement like Grosjean for instance.

Ferrari know more than we do when it comes to drivers. I see Hulkenberg and Di Resta as young but very mature drivers, I can't recall them making too many mistakes a la Maldonado and Grosjean and to me they seem a bit more mature than Perez. I'm sure they'll be faster than Massa and would definitely like Hulkenberg in a Ferrari.

But how much faster? About 0,010 seconds? :) Do you seriously think, that something will change? Ferrari has already their no. 1 driver... ;)

In the past Ferrari had a No.1 driver and a No.2 who was often capable of fighting for the No.2 position in a race, when the No.1 driver won it. Massa no longer achieves that - sadly.

In the 2nd half of 2010, he was quite good. Overall, I think he was too conservative that year and maybe needed some time to adapt to F1. 2012 looks better - if Massa and Schumacher retire than there would be two seats for Hulkenberg, Di Resta and Perez (possibly Sutil). That is pretty promising by F1 standards for someone without much sponsor money.

That was the worst Williams in years. He got a pole in it. Sure the start of the season wasn't great, but after that pole, I knew he would be a WDC

And thats why "Law of Averages" came into being.
The other day, with not so competitive car, he achieved his career best and today with FI's strongest circuit, he starting from back of the grid.
I am more worried about his proximity with Maldonado on starting grid.

Really, NH hasn't done anything that impressive. 4th at Spa was a good start to hanging with the big boys , but future WDC? I don't see it. The other Nico looks to have brighter future imo even if the Hulk gets the #2 at Ferrari, which is going to Perez anyway.

Loads of drivers were playing a bit dirty today hanging each other out to dry on the exit of corners which is quite a low trick, I love the way the Hulk forced his way past the other side of Hamilton who had just walked him right off the track like he had done to Raikkonen on lap one. Made Hamilton look stupid and Lewis is my favourite driver.

Interesting that it is said Hulk nad some connections with Lotus but after clean race from Romain the possible seat is has closed.
