PdR is a very good driver IMO ... to beat him so convincingly, as NH did this weekend speaks very loudly IMO
Looking at his Pre-F1-CV he really looked like a star in the making, but his debut year against Barrichello lowered his reputation as he really struggled against him (until the closing stages of the season).
In his very first formula-year he beat Buemi, who was already in the series the year before.
Finished 3rd in his first F3-year and was the most successful driver in the 2nd part of the season. His teammate Kobayashi even finished behind him, despite having one year more experience in F3 (at least Grosjean made this advantage stick, but also not by much).
Won F3 in the next year.
Instantly won GP2 in the following year. His teammate was Maldonado and scored only 33 points compared to Nicos 100 - and he was already 2 years in GP2...
I think Hamilton is the only active driver, who has a more impressive Pre-F1-CV than him.

I agree with this .... who was backing him during his junior formulae days?

Let's be honest here - I can't believe Ferrari re-signed Massa instead of hiring Hulk...
Same here, which means you've got to alteast consider some of the rumours surrounding 2014.
Massa has been very good lately, but with two and a half bad seasons, you can't be sure he'll stay at his current level all through next season.
Hülkenberg is doing a great job at the moment and I think he's becoming a very interesting driver.

Could Hulk be a dark horse to replace Mark Webber in 2014? Deserves a top seat somewhere. Perhaps the brand wouldn't want two Germans though.
If Vettel leaves to Ferrari, I am sure Hulk will be at least under consideration for RBR. Webber's retirement is not too far away either. Of course it depends, how will the Toro Rosso juniors perform and if they impress or not. But not impossible that by 2015 Red Bull still has drivers from the same nationalities as now, but with different names - Hulkenberg and Ricciardo.
Or alternatively, going further in the future - if Button retires after 2014/15/whenever, Hulk has a shot at getting there.
Or of course Ferrari if Vettel doesn't go there in 2014.
So I guess these are the realistic options for Hulkenberg in the next few years. He needs to keep performing at a very high level to avoid getting stuck in midfield.
If the rumours about Sauber are true, then the only aspect I'd like to point out is that Hulkenberg needs some stability in his career. He takes half a year to get fully up to speed. This was the case in GP2 in 2009, at Williams in 2010 and now in Force India. If he goes to Sauber, he will have to re-adapt again.

Paul di Resta is an average driver.
Agreed, but Hulkenberg is still doing a great job, and is maximising the car at the moment, it's just a shame he had those two mechanical problems at Monza and Singapore otherwise I think he would be heavily beating Di resta.
It's been genuinely great seeing him improve and grow over the season, and I still can't believe McLaren signed Perez over him, regardless of the investment opportunities for the latter. IMO He is the only new driver at the moment that seems genuinely capable of challenging the triumvirate of Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel in the near future once given the equipment, but for the moment I hope that can have another great season at Sauber in 2013.
Scarily becoming quite a big fan, it seems I have a thing about Hs.

Not agree. Imo Di Resta and Hulkenberg they are fantastic drivers, even if I consider Nico a slightly faster and better driver.
Imo it´s a shame Hulkenberg or even Di resta won´t drive a McLaren next season.

I'll give Nico credit. Great drive today. You gotta wonder though if he moves to Sauber, is that really a step up?

THey could be slower than FI next year but he had to go because FI has some SERIOUS question marks hanging over it's head. Yes it's a separate entity but it can all go boom real fast whereas you suspect Peter Sauber has his **** sorted.

Bit of a shame their deal with Perez was done.

Said it earlier and gonna say it again - I can't believe Mclaren signed Perez over Hulk... The biggest disappointment of the season so far.
Yep. Though I think Perez has promise, Hulk is the real deal. Fast, consistent and mature - he is being wasted in a midfield car next year.

I always knew he was going to put it together to a series of a great performances. It doesn't say much about your F1 potential if you have one good season in junior series, but if you have such a great record like Hulk, you can't be just a mediocre driver.
The only thing that worries me a bit is that he is going to change the team again. Although I think Sauber should be a step forward over Force India, if not in terms of car's competitiveness, then at least in terms of stability, Hulk is yet to be a racing driver for one team by 2 years in row and this makes it a harder task if he wants to shine. He always needs to adapt and can't build a team around himself and can't get a car that is pretty much designed for his driving style etc.
At least he has reached the status that he can get a midfield seat without bringing sponsorship and without one-year break. Good for him. I wonder how could he do this year if he was a racing driver last year. Maybe he could outshine di Resta from the beginning of the season and get a McLaren seat instead of Perez. We will never know.

It's surprising how it has gone from "he is a mediocre", "Sauber's drivers are much better than him" to "Hulk is a real deal" and "I can't believe Mclaren signed Perez over Hulk" in just 2 or 3 races.
Hulk seems to have the only issue - he needs some time to adapt. But apart from that it is very wrong to underestimate his abilities.
This year his only weakness was multiplied by a mediocre FI' start of the season - kinda usual thing for Mallia's team. But at the moment he is easly on the level of Sutil in terms of speed and as someone said above, showing just some robotic drive. Definitely my man for current and upcoming season.

Not for some of us:
I think Hulk did an amazing job, qualified fourth in wet conditions and defended well to keep Button and especially Perez behind him for a long time, in a car that didn't have the pace while finishing in front of Di Resta again.
I would have given him a 10

Well, it's normal that not everybody thinks the same. Not for some of us:
I was saying that in my opinion Force India duo was doing better (more consistent) than Sauber many races ago and I'm sure some people still rate at least one of Sauber's drivers above Hulk.
But some races ago people who stated that Hulk is a mediocre were 'louder' than those who stated otherwise and now it's pretty much the opposite. How quickly the general mood about the driver can change in F1.

Yeah the potential he showed in the junior formulas is now being realised fully, that year off benefited himThis is a guy who already had fans before he came to F1 ... its just that aside from the pole a couple of years ago there has not been much to shout about before the mid point of this season.... so its no surprise is many of us are just now coming (back?) out of the woodwork as NH fans but its not that we are new fans.

Maybe the German media is right. Ron Dennis will never hire a German driver. McLaren never have, not likely to. The only significant team not to.Said it earlier and gonna say it again - I can't believe Mclaren signed Perez over Hulk... The biggest disappointment of the season so far.
It's more than coincident when they pass up on Schumacher (both), Frentzen, Heidfeld, Vettel and others, given Mercedes pressure over the years.
If Hulkenberg was expecting a change of heart, he's got a long wait.

Ron seems to have had some wine. Wouldn't it have been funny if Ron Dennis woke up the next morning. On his bedside he has a contract signed from Deletraz and he realises that drank so much alcohol that Deletraz looked to be Schumacher.

Jochen Mass?
Jochen Mass drove full seasons from 1975 untill 1977 for McLaren (and 2 races in '74). At that time McLaren was owned by Teddy Mayer. Ron Dennis only took over in 1981 and under Dennis McLaren never hired a German driver for a race seat.

It´s true. But it´s also true he never took before a "latin driver" and even said: "latin drivers has not the character to run on this team".
Apart from it I´m sure McLaren tried the SV shot, but he has contract until 2015.

Still i would like to see him with Koba in the team, while i very much like Koba (actually my fav. to watch in F1), i rate Hulk higher then him, especially in consistency, but Koba seams like the perfect teamate, hardworking but not self-centered, it would probably be better for the team evolution and in the end for Hulk to get better results.
