This thread was split from another, which now resides in HR. Please take note of my post later in this thread regarding our BB rules...

I know they don't like us to mention the "opposition", but have you posted the same question on Ten-Tenths? Their demograph seems to have more ex- club racers than here.

I don't really understand the 'us and them' divide, but yes, I've tried in their 'motorsports history' section, though sadly with similar results. also via classic clubmans and the 750mc forums

Is there really an us and them divide? I have never ever seen anyone here get warned for mentioning another forum. (But I did get warned for mentioning this forum when I was over there.)

I just made a comment on how awful a particular upgrade was. I was initially Yellow Carded but when I asked how the system worked it ended in me being banned. Funnily enough the particular upgrade was removed as it was universally denegrated. I understand at least one other person was banned (not sure if it was a permanent or short term ban) for asking for my re-instatement.

I got warned for bagging an upgrade. I told them it couldn't be called an upgrade if it went slower.

I also got warned for the use of the word "bugger". Well bugger me! Which one of you buggers called that bugger a "bugger"?

Bugger!

Never been banned, but did once have a run-in with them after I linked to a TNF thread and got a warning, which they grudgingly rescinded. I still check 10/10 every day, but seldom find much of interest - I post more in Parc Fermé than the historic section.

Similar thing happened to me on the official Apple forum; I complained about their attitude to their customers, and being American and totally lacking in irony, they banned me :rotfl:

Had a barney with AMAZON on Wednesday. I emailed them complaining at the lack of a LOG-OUT button on the secure parts of their website...

In response, they phoned me.

"You click on Not Bloggsworth"

"But I am Bloggsworth, why would I click the Not Bloggsworth, and anyway, it’s not available on nearly all your pages?"

"Well that's what you do. When you have completed your order you are returned to the opening page, where you can click on the Not Bloggsworth button."

"But I am Bloggsworth, so why would I click on the Not Bloggsworth button; and anyway, I might just be updating account details - Why not just have a big LOG OUT button?"

"Well, we are not going to change the website..."

I had to go through 3 or 4 levels of HELP pages to find out that information which rather leads me to suspect that “Cookies” are involved – And incidentally, they have changed the default delivery method to the most expensive option, so keep a lookout!

The thread was split from another one as it was dragging the original thread off topic. But this one looks silly because it is missing a vital element, the actual subject. :drunk:

I was banned once, from a forum of (Marque) enthusiasts by a "moderator" whose avowed puopose was to keep the forum "running smooth". The ban was because of something I addressed to him in a Personal Message.

I would say the general run of forum administrators is/are REDACTED and REDACTED if not downright REDACTED REDACTED.

PS: I watched five Marx brothers movies in a row today. Graucho was in fine form, as always.

That word had something to do with me ultimately being banned from there too...

They're very, very sensitive about things to do with that word.

Mind you, pointing out that someone who had consistently razzed me for posting pics bigger than a certain size (claiming that very few in England had anything other than very slow dial-up connections) had posted a pic bigger than said size didn't do me any favours.

Hi Guys;
Happy New Year to all.
If they are so sensitive to the "B'"word.
Why not use the Pidgin English versions?
i.e. If not too badly damaged "Im e all bugarup."
If damage terminal "Im e all bugarup pinish."
Can't be hung for using proper language. :rotfl:
Cheers.

TNF never ceases to be a fountain of useful information I always understood a bugger translated as bucket excavator in German in fact the correct spelling in German for bucket excavator is Bagger.

I have been banned from the odd marque forum for mentioning other sites and am of the opinion they are missing the point of the internetwork and associated traffic on which all successful websites thrive.

Hi folks.
To clarify, this thread evolved from a suggestion in the tread about my old clubmans car (in the historical research forum) that I also ask on 10/10ths. This discussion evolved from that, and as such was moved to it's own thread by a moderator.

I realise yours was a light-hearted comment, but this is a common misconception. Pom and pommie are Australasian words for British people. They are no more racist than 'Brit' - or even 'Englishman'

No. Several years ago my parents sent me a T-shirt with the word emblasoned across the chest. They were apparently all the rage in NZ at the time. It remains unworn as very few people in SE England would associate it with a Toyota ad.

... few people in SE England would associate it with a Toyota ad.

And even fewer in Ireland, where 10/10 is now run from.

Not that I'm suggesting any connection between the word bugger and Catholic priests ...

As for tolerance, Ray - we British are as nothing compared to some of the Septics who inhabit Parc Fermé. One or two of 'em make Todd look like a liberal

A few I struck in my time there, Speedy, were very intolerant Brits...

I suspect mainly because they knew quite literally what 'bugger' meant.

Another Motor Sport forum.

I post on both here and there, although less on 10/10th's than in the past. They do have certain rules that I find odd, but you agree to abide by them when you sign up. I've directed people from here to 10/10th's and visa versa, so far without any comeback. I take care to be a bit more subtle about it these days.

Sadly at times some of the most interesting people end up getting banned :(

I did recently when I posted a few links to some photos elsewhere, despite issuing an apology of sorts for doing so. In other words I wasn't sure it was quite the right thing to do.

Ironically, my initial post was followed by others; one which stated that they too had thought of starting a thread in the same vein.

The thread was deleted and I was told I had crossed a line. No problem with that.

I have had warning from mod. there saying if it was his choice I would be gone but he was over-ruled.

I used to post very regularly on 10 Tenths but left for a multiplicity of reasons. One was a particular poster who was insulting owners when they provided information about their cars, and another was an increasing discomfort at the amount of ads being put onto the site, which led to a sneaking feeling that content I was writing was earning somebody else a good amount of money, but the final straw was when they changed the links from 10 Tenths to OldRacingCars.com such that the amount of visitors to my site from 10 Tenths dropped by more than 90%. As a source of visits, 10 Tenths used to be not far behind TNF but now it's down on page 3 together with the Japanese version of Google and a Russian site that's doing a very systematic job of ripping off ORC's F1 results.

As has been said, their loss ...

Interesting comments.

I quite enjoy their Historic section and the Chassis History Archive is interesting, although I'm not sure if it helps or hinders ORC.

Personally, I think one site should compliment the other and share info. Many people here, and there have a lot in common.
