They probably won't but once they are numb it won't matter too much :stoned:

Right, chaps, only two days to go. We need to firm up this possible lunchtime TNF gathering. So far those who've expressed interest are me, Ralph (Arttidesco), Tony (Odseybod) and the Mongoose. Anyone else fancy joining us? Also, any thoughts on venue would be appreciated. At the moment the two pubs being considered are Smiths (slap bang in the middle of the action so likely to be packed, but with an enormous garden and good beer) and the Anchor (a bit of a hike, but close to the eastern end of the parade route, Eastgate House and the old ERA/BRM works).

Some photos here scanned from Richard Styles of the ERA/BRM Raymond Mays day in Bourne in 1999. Is that our friend Alan Cox, with his camera on the far right in the first photo?

Not a clone, I can vouch for the fact that it was me - a great day was had by all. I'm sure this Sunday will be more of the same - minus the ERAs.

In view of the lack of response to my last post about a TNF gathering, I'm assuming it's not now going to happen. I expect Ralph and I will run into a TNFer or two during the course of the day.

Having spent the last 2 days in bed with flu, I'm just hoping that I am going to be ok to attend... gutted!

Feeling a bit groggy at the moment but I'm hoping to be up and about, if not I will be able to listen to the cars if I open a window!

Hello Tim,

Sorry for the silence, I was trying to decide what I was doing (never a good idea!). If I do go - 95% certain at the mo, as I'm off to Foreign Parts on Thursday and have some things to sort out beforehand - I'll look in to Smiths for any familiar faces and may also stroll down towards Eastgate House (and maybe the Anchor) if I've time.

Best wishes to the Mongoose for a speedy recovery - there's a lot of it about, as they say.

Hope you make a (very) swift recovery Mongoose :-)

Ralf Pickle who started the thread sends his regards, he has made a good recovery and is walking and driving again, alas all too late to book sensible tickets for a visit to Bourne.

OK Tony, thanks. I suggest we aim for around 1-15 in Smiths, and perhaps if the Mongoose is feeling up to it he might join us for a medicinal whisky? I'll be wearing my TNF shirt and badge.

It was a super day - brilliant late-summer weather and even a fly-past by the BBMF DC3. The people of Bourne really pulled the stops out to welcome the world to its doorstep and BRM (and other) owners brought out their cars to make it a truly fantastic collection. From ERA R1B to BRM P207 (x2), including two P180s, the only model lacking seemed to be an H16. JYS demonstrated a P261 and Tyrrell, and Bette Hill was joined by daughters Samantha and Brigitte, as well as Damon. Failed to spot many TNFers, but enjoyed a chat with Barrie Baxter (driverider) about his P48 and P25.
I had the pleasure of being joined by Kingsleyrob and Roger Clark on the trip over from Cheshire, and I think Rob summed it up well by saying "The only way it could have been better was if they had paid me to go." Fine praise indeed.

Absolutely outstanding. To be so close to a passing V16 BRM that its exhaust gases smote one's leg quite hard, plus all the other sights and sounds - truly unforgettable. Sorry we didn't run into any other TNFers. Many thanks to all those who organised such an excellent day.

Went on a whim, couldn't find Smiths. Ended up eating tea cake. And a ginger and cashew biscuit. And a rum and raisin cake. I love the smell of petrol in the, er, afternoon. They reckon there were over 20,000 there; only disappointment for me was I didn't see the Stanley Steamer. Did however see an Eleanor Cross though thanks to an irresistible detour.

One note of complaint and that has nothing to do with the festival itself. Which total and utter congenital moron decided to close the A43 just south of Stamford this weekend of all weekends? Without bothering with anything as potentially useful as (a) advance warning and/or (b) diversion signs?

Sight smell and sound of those V16's , and all those other cars virtually driving over ones toes, even at walking pace made for a wholly intoxicating experience, well done to every one involved it would be a fitting honor to Bourne, for a few other towns to start celebrating their motor sports history this way, can you imagine the Connew driving down Chadwell Heath High Street or a Le Mans Class winning Bristol driving around the City centre from which it takes it's name ?

:smoking:

pics to follow tomorrow :-)

Quite correct, Mick. I wondered who would be the first to spot that, as Captain Mainwaring used to say. I didn't see a P207, although one was entered.

Well, I'm kicking myself. Left late anyway and what had been murk ar home quickly developed into fick fog - the thought of driving 70 miles through that, with a guilty conscience about all the things to do at home before going on hols later this week, caused an about turn. Silly me - from the pics, it looks to have been a great day (despite no H16 music).

A great day.

Met up with Kingsleyrob and Roger Clark (thanks to my TNF badge).

Loved the sounds and smells, don't know how the clips will have come out. Will try and have a look later.

Thanks to Alan for some great photos, even better than my wifes'!

Waiting for 'The History of English Racing Automobiles' to arrive. Yum

PS JYS really gave the BRM some beans, once a racer...

Well, I'm pleased to say I dragged by Lemsip ridden self into town for the day and very pleased that I did, I have some good close-up footage of the '1962 grid' as they came past me slouched against the kerb in Abbey Road, nearly had my foot run over obtaining it however, when a marshall opposite moved deeper into the road forcing a car to take a tighter line inches from my outstretched leg... I did hear from a friend that an unlucky spectator did have a toe or two re-designed by a car in the morning session, I saw the ambulance with the lights on but assumed he was just trying to make his way through the masses!

When I move my video onto the computer and then figure out how to post it on here I will...

Sorry not to catch up with anyone else but glad everyone seemed to enjoy our little town's efforts!

Very nice shot of Damon and Old Faithful in this morning's 'Daily Telegraph'...good of him to pass up the Nip GP for nipping around Bourne in a BRM. Good man.

I wish I'd been there now (especially since I had a road accident here instead). Dammit.

Bourne is indeed a great little town. Rick and Rob Hall and their Hall & Hall company played a major role in the event - backed by David Owen of Owen Organisation fame - and they evidently deserve great praise.

- cars arriving and departing the old works...

- and through North road

- funnily my best mate Stu is visible at 45sec looking at one of his 500+ photos he managed to take!

It was nice to see Damon wearing an open-face helmet, while, in a nice point of detail, JYS opted for open-face in the P261 and full-face for the Tyrrell.

Good to see John Pearson finally out later in the day in his ex-Bonnier P25/8. More used to seeing him sitting next to Ted thumbing through photographs!

The programme says that Henri Pescarolo was to drive John Fenning's P201, can anyone confirm if it actually was Pesca in the green helmet???

Howden Ganley in the BRM
Howden had a great time at the event and loved seeing all the fans. This was the first BRM F-1 that Howden drove in 1971 it is chassis P 153-03. He later switched to chassis 06.

I know Henri wears glasses as I've seen him wearing them recently. However I still have no idea if it was Pescarolo in the green helmet, as I didn't see him in the paddock. Alan Cox posted on this issue at one point this morning, but then withdrew his posts. Reine Wisell was rumoured to be wandering about also, but I didn't see him either.
